Young Performers Ages 14-18 Invited to Bring Disney Magic to Life

Do you want to build a snowman? Spotlight Acting School is holding auditions this Saturday for Disney’s Frozen Jr., inviting young performers ages 14-18 to bring the beloved story of Elsa, Anna, and the kingdom of Arendelle to the Berea stage.

Auditions take place Saturday, November 15 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at The Spotlight Playhouse, located at 214 Richmond Road North in Berea.

A Beloved Story Comes to Berea

Disney’s Frozen Jr. tells the heartwarming tale of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, whose bond is tested when Elsa’s magical ice powers accidentally plunge their kingdom into eternal winter. With unforgettable songs like “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” and “For the First Time in Forever,” the show has captured hearts worldwide since the original film’s release in 2013.

The stage adaptation brings all the magic, humor, and emotion of the film to life in a format designed for young performers. From Elsa’s powerful journey of self-acceptance to Anna’s determined quest to save her sister and their kingdom, the story offers rich roles for actors of all types.

Roles for Everyone

Whether you dream of belting “Let It Go” as Elsa, bringing warmth and determination to Anna’s character, making audiences laugh as the lovable snowman Olaf, or portraying the charming Hans or the rugged Kristoff, Spotlight Acting School has a role for you.

The production also features ensemble roles including the people of Arendelle, trolls, and other characters that help bring the magical kingdom to life. Every role contributes to the storytelling and spectacle that makes Frozen such a beloved show.

What to Expect at Auditions

Spotlight Acting School keeps the audition process welcoming and accessible:

  • No pre-registration required – Just show up ready to audition
  • Open to ages 14-18 – All experience levels welcome
  • Financial aid available – No student is turned away due to inability to pay
  • Supportive environment – Directors and staff help bring out the best in every auditioner

Auditions typically include singing a portion of a song and learning a short dance or movement routine. You may prepare a song if you wish, but it’s not required—the creative team will work with you during the audition. They’re looking for enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to collaborate, not perfection.

A Tradition of Excellence

Spotlight Acting School, founded in 2004 and now based in Berea, has been nurturing young performers across central Kentucky for over two decades. The school guarantees every enrolled student a role in productions, creating an inclusive environment where students ages 4-18 can develop confidence, creativity, and theatrical skills.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Chad Hembree, Spotlight Acting School produces multiple shows each year across different age groups. The 14-18 age group consistently delivers college-level quality performances, with students going on to pursue theater in higher education and professional settings.

Productions at The Spotlight Playhouse feature professional-quality sets, costumes, and technical elements, giving young performers the experience of working in a real theater environment. The 13,000-square-foot facility includes two professional theaters, providing flexible performance spaces for various production styles.

The Magic of Musical Theater

Disney’s Frozen Jr. offers young performers the chance to work with one of the most popular and musically rich shows of the past decade. The score by the husband-and-wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—who together wrote the Oscar-winning song “Remember Me” from Coco, and whose credits also include Robert’s co-creation of the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon—features soaring melodies, clever lyrics, and emotional depth that challenge and inspire performers.

Beyond the famous songs, the show explores themes of family, self-acceptance, fear, and love—giving young actors meaningful material to explore and interpret. The bond between Anna and Elsa resonates with audiences of all ages, making it a perfect choice for a school production.

Building Confidence Through Performance

Participating in a Spotlight Acting School production offers benefits beyond learning lines and songs. Students develop:

  • Confidence through public performance
  • Collaboration skills working with cast and crew
  • Discipline through rehearsal schedules and memorization
  • Creativity in character development and interpretation
  • Friendships with peers who share their passion for theater

Many Spotlight alumni credit their theater experience with developing skills that serve them in college, careers, and life—from public speaking to teamwork to creative problem-solving.
