BEREA, Ky. — Berea’s free summer concert season begins Tuesday, May 12, with a kickoff event featuring live music, food trucks, and children’s activities on the hospital campus.
The Levitt BLOC Berea concert runs from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Berea Hospital, located at 305 Estill St. The event is presented through a partnership between AMP Berea, Berea Home Village, Grow Appalachia, Berea College, and the Levitt Family Foundation.
🎶 A Blend of Appalachian and Latin Sounds
The kickoff features Appalatin, a Louisville-based ensemble known for blending Appalachian folk traditions with Latin American musical roots. The group’s acoustic sound utilizes string instruments, Andean flutes, and percussion, reflecting the heritage of members from Kentucky, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
Berea-based group Something Sandy is scheduled to open the afternoon as the supporting act.
🏙️ The Levitt BLOC Model
This concert marks the expansion of the local series into the Levitt BLOC (Berea Locally Owned Community) model. While previous seasons centered primarily on Old Town, the BLOC program is designed to activate different public spaces across the community, bringing free professional music into varied neighborhoods.
📌 Logistics and Parking
- Admission: Free and open to the public.
- Seating: Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
- Parking: Because the concert is held on an active hospital campus, visitors are asked to follow designated event parking signs and avoid parking in areas reserved for patient and emergency access.
- Activities: On-site food trucks and children’s activities are planned throughout the two-hour window.
