BEREA, Ky. — The US 25 Yard Sale returns Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, bringing two days of roadside sales, bargain hunting, and extra traffic along one of Kentucky’s historic north-south routes.
Berea Tourism lists the 15th Annual US 25 Yard Sale as a two-day event featuring hundreds of yard sales along 200 miles of US 25 from Walton to Williamsburg. Berea is one of the main communities along the route, giving local shoppers and visitors a chance to take part without traveling far from home.
🗓 Dates: Friday, June 5 to Saturday, June 6
⏰ Time: All day (individual yard sale hours vary by seller)
📍 Location: US 25 corridor (regional route)
☔ Weather: Rain or shine
🛣️ The Historic Dixie Highway Connection
For Berea, the event is more than a weekend yard sale. US 25 has long been part of the area’s travel story. Berea College Special Collections notes that since 1926, the Wilderness Road has been linked to U.S. Route 25, also known as the Dixie Highway.
The old highway originally helped bring travelers and tourism through rural communities, much like today’s yard sale brings drivers off the interstate and back through towns along the older route. That history is part of the event’s appeal; yard sale shoppers are not just moving from one sale to another, they are following a road that connected communities before Interstate 75 became the main path for long-distance travel through the region.
The US 25 Yard Sale has also become a regular regional tradition. Berea Tourism listed the 13th annual sale in 2024 and the 14th annual sale in 2025. This year’s event continues that pattern with a route stretching through multiple counties and communities.
💵 Bargain Hunting Tips and Driver Caution
For shoppers, the best plan is to start early, bring cash, and allow extra time. Some sellers may use digital payment apps, but roadside sales are still often cash-based. Small bills can make purchases easier, especially at busy locations.
Drivers should also use caution. Large yard sale weekends can bring sudden stops, pedestrians crossing near parked vehicles, and cars pulling on and off the roadway. Shoppers should avoid blocking driveways, intersections, private roads, or business entrances.
🚗 Parking Guidelines and Pedestrian Safety
Parking is one of the biggest concerns during long-route yard sales. Visitors should only park where it is safe and legal to do so. Highway shoulders can be narrow, uneven, or unsafe, especially where traffic is moving quickly. When possible, shoppers should use designated parking areas, side streets, business lots that are clearly allowing event parking, or other safe pull-off locations.
Pedestrians should stay alert when walking between sales. Drivers may be focused on signs, parked cars, or roadside tables, and visibility can change quickly near curves, hills, and intersections.
📋 Vendor Coordination and Local Rules
Sellers should also think about safety before setting up. Tables, signs, tents, and parked vehicles should be kept away from travel lanes. Signs should not block driver visibility, and sellers should make sure customers have a safe place to pull in and out.
Independent vendors with questions about the regional sale can contact organizer Randy Coffey at 859-779-3005, according to the Berea Tourism event listing. Vendors should also check local rules and property permissions before setting up, especially near public rights-of-way, private lots, or multi-vendor locations.
The regional route is generally described as running along US 25 from Walton to Williamsburg. In Berea, shoppers can expect activity along the local US 25 corridor and nearby connecting areas, but specific sale locations are set by individual sellers. Anyone planning a full-route trip should check current route information, local tourism pages, and the official US 25 Yard Sale Facebook page before leaving.
