Madison Middle’s Brandi Smith has been named a middle school finalist for 2017 Kentucky Teacher of the Year! Ms. Smith is one of 9 finalists.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Oct. 19 in Frankfort.
In response to the devastating flooding that occurred in Johnson County, Madison Middle School Athletics will be hosting a “Disaster Relief Drive” at Madison Middle School, today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Many families, including students, lost everything they had. Volunteers may drop off any of the items below at the front entrance of the school. Donations will be delivered to the Red Cross management team stationed in Paintsville.

B. Michael Caudill Middle School has selected Che Haselwood as its next principal. Haselwood will replace Ken Bicknell, who will be serving with the Kentucky Department of Education. Haselwood is currently serving the district as a principal at Shannon Johnson Elementary School.
Haselwood has been employed by Madison County Schools since 2010. He served in the district as a teacher at B. Senator Jared Carpenter (R-Berea) sent the attached letter to Governor Beshear today requesting that the Madison Middle School students be placed on the first meeting agenda of the newly created Anti-bullying Awareness Task Force.
“The students’ powerful testimonies were key in the passage of SB 20,” Carpenter said in his letter to Governor Beshear. “Their insights into bullying, as well as the personal courage each showed in talking about the issue, will be of great use to the task force in putting together its recommendations.”

Senator Jared Carpenter (R-Berea) and Representative Rita Smart (D-Richmond) welcomed students and teachers from Madison Middle School to the Capitol on Thursday.
The group was in Frankfort promoting anti-bullying legislation. Students at the school were responsible for helping Senator Carpenter develop Senate Bill 20. The legislation would designate October as Anti-Bullying Month in KY.
FRANKFORT— A bill to designate October as Anti-Bullying Month in Kentucky and make purple and yellow the colors of the awareness campaign’s official commemoration ribbon has been introduced in the Kentucky House by Rep. Rita Smart. HB 35, which was pre-filed by Smart last year, will be considered by the Kentucky General Assembly during the 2013 Regular Session which resumes on Feb. 5 in Frankfort.
