At approximately 1:15 PM, the Richmond Police School Resource Officer at Madison Central High School responded to a parking lot on school property. School officials were investigating the possibility of drug use on campus when they discovered an unloaded handgun in the trunk of a car. Further investigation revealed the handgun had been previously reported stolen.
A student was later charged with receiving stolen handgun and possession of a weapon on school property.
Students from eight more Kentucky schools are taking field trips to a Kentucky State Park thanks to a transportation grant from the Kentucky State Parks Foundation.
The KSPF’s “Inside Out Education” initiative allows schools to seek the grants that enable students to learn about the environment, history or culture at a Kentucky State Park.
“These trips provide excellent learning opportunities for these students,” Parks Commissioner Donnie Holland said. “They also bring young people to our state parks so they can experience our history and natural environment.”
