We all heard the uproar and the hysteria in Kentucky over the past year. Some people in Kentucky were led to believe that “Republicans took away pensions”. That’s ludicrous of course; but this was a reality to those led to believe it by the Kentucky Teachers Association (KEA) and a Democratic party desperate to regain power. They encouraged voters to “Remember in November” as they stoked fear into the minds of our dedicated and hardworking teachers, officers, and other state employees. Yesterday, I attended the large rally at EKU with a friend who is disabled. The treatment of the disabled trying to get into the building was heartless, cruel, and possibly illegal.
It was a capacity crowd, so of course we expected that it would take time to get in, but there was no signage or anyone to help us or find the accessible entrance. After basically pushing our way through the crowd, we found the accessible entrance and got in a line with at least 35 people in wheelchairs and with other disabilities.
