KSP to Conduct Traffic Safety Checkpoints

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, which provides coverage for Madison, Clark, Estill, Lee, Owsley, Jackson, Mercer, Boyle, Lincoln, Garrard and Jessamine counties, will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints at locations approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. These checkpoints will be conducted in an effort to enforce the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Special attention will be paid to occupant protection (seatbelt adherence), sobriety, insurance, and registration violations.

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a fatal single motorcycle accident that happened just after 2:30 p.m. yesterday on KY 30 in Owsley County.

The initial investigation indicates that William L. Atherton, 67 years old of Louisville KY, was traveling west bound on KY 30 on his 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, when he lost control left the roadway and struck an embankment. Both Atherton and his passenger, Julia W. Atherton 65 years old of Louisville KY, were ejected from the motorcycle.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

On Tuesday, June 02, 2015 at approximately 11:16 PM Kentucky State Police Post 11, London was notified by the Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office of a deceased female inside of a residence on Red Hill RD in the Livingston community of Rockcastle County. The victim was discovered by a Deputy Sheriff who was conducting a welfare check on the home owner.

KSP Detectives arrived on the scene and discovered the victim, Mary A. Hinton, 86, of Livingston, KY deceased. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office.

Update: The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, was contacted this morning around 7:30 am, about a person riding a bicycle, on Eck Hollow road in Estill County, that matched the description of Jason Gay.

Kentucky State Police dispatched several Troopers to the area, where they located Jason Gay, 37 years old of Berea. Gay was arrested without incident, and is lodged in Estill County Detention Center. Theft of Identity Charge: On 06/02/2015, police charged Conor M. McCafery, age 28, Kent, OH, for Theft of Identity in connection with and arrest made the previous day.

On 06/01/2015, officers were dispatched to a reported disturbance in a room at the Country Hearth Inn, 230 Eastern Bypass. Upon arrival, officers observed a female, later identified as Kathleen Gaynesbloom, age 23, address unconfirmed, lying on the floor with blood and bruises visible on her person. Gaynesbloom was asked to come to the door and speak to officers at which time she exited the room and attempted to close the door behind her. When officers intervened to prevent the door from being closed, Gaynesbloom became disorderly and attempted to assault the officers. She continued to resist officers until subdued. Unlawful Imprisonment: On 06/01/2015, police charged Mark Blevins, age 60, Pleasure Drive, for several offenses after responding to a call at his residence.

At approximately 9:22 A.M., officers were dispatched to Blevins’ residence concerning a request for medical assistance. Upon arrival, officers met with Blevins 84-year-old aunt who thought that Blevins may be suffering from a medical condition that required assistance. Police and EMS on scene determined that Blevins was intoxicated and he refused medical assistance. The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was notified that an inmate escaped from the custody of an Estill County Deputy, on Kirkland Ave. in Irvine last night.

The initial investigation alleges that Jason Gay 37 years old of Berea, escaped last night at approximately 11:30 pm. It is alleged that Gay escaped custody of an Estill County deputy while being transported to Estill County Jail. Gay then allegedly stole a 1988 Dodge Dakota from the EH water plant in Irvine. Berea Police Report June 2, 2015

Theft Arrest: On 05/25/2015 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to a theft. They reported that a contracted worker stole two items from the store totaling $494.00. The subject also had an active arrest warrant and was placed under arrest.

Traffic Crash and Assault Investigation

Kentucky State Police SGT Steve Walker is investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a state trooper that occurred at approximately 11:56 PM last night on KY 192 in London.

The investigation revealed that Trooper Donnie Foley, who was operating a marked state police cruiser, was stopped at a traffic light in the westbound lane of KY 192 at the intersection of KY 363 in the city limits of London when a semi-truck, that was also traveling westbound, struck the rear of Trooper Foley’s vehicle. After the initial impact, the semi-truck impacted Trooper Foley’s vehicle a second time, causing injury to Trooper Foley and severe damage to the cruiser.
