Kevin Thomas Hill, 35, of Elm Street, Richmond, passed away Monday, January 30, 2012. He was born in Richmond, Kentucky on July 17, 1976, and had been an employee of Steak & Shake Restaurant for several years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Nathan Hill and is survived by his mother Emma Williams Hill; four sisters, Denise McPherson (David), Jacqueline Williams, Eugina Hill (C J Jennings) and Jana Wilson (Nick Price); four brothers, Thomas Norris, Michael Williams (Angie) Paul C. Williams (Jennifer) and James Frederick Hill (Mary Ann); as well as, several nieces and nephews.

Florence Saylor Reppert, 83, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was a lifelong resident of Rockcastle County, born October 23, 1928, daughter of the late Eugene and Etta Alexander Saylor. Florence owned and operated Superior Food Market in Mt. Vernon for many years before retirement, and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and known throughout the area as an avid flower gardener, vegetable gardener, quilt maker, and amazing cook. “Gran” as she was affectionately known, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and neighbor.

Helen Louise Warner, 90, formerly of Belair Dr., Richmond, died Sunday in her daughters home in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was born September 10, 1921 in West Irvine, the daughter of Charles Rice and Louise Witt Rice. Louise served in the Waves and was stationed in Washington D.C. during WWII.

Residing in Springfield, Illinois for 35 years, Louise and her husband Vernon “Top” Warner moved back to Richmond in 1992. Top and Louise celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2006. They attended Glades Christian Church in Berea.

We have to say good bye to Dora Faye Brewer, age 7 of McKee, KY. She died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at her home as a result of a mobile home fire. She was born March 22, 2004 in Madison County, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Miller of McKee, KY and Henry C. Brewer of Mt. Vernon, KY.

Dora had autism and enjoyed going to school at Mt Vernon Elementary in Rockcastle County and Sand Gap Elementary School in Jackson County. She enjoyed playing with her two rabbits; two dogs, Toby & Bear and her cats. She enjoyed watching Care Bears, WLJC, Dora Explorer, Go Diego Go, Little Bear and Clifford the Big Red Dog on television. RICHMOND — Marie Louise Hendricks Jackson, 87, of Richmond, widow of O.P. Jackson Jr., died on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in St. Joseph Hospital – East in Lexington, Ky.

Jackson, daughter of the late A. T. “Tiff” and Katie Mae Gayheart Hendricks, was born in Madison County on Jan. 14, 1924. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by: four daughters, Nancy Putteet (Bill), of Richmond; Betty Louise Howard, of Richmond; Delia Sadler (Coleman) of Richmond; and Cindy Jackson Long, of Richmond; three brothers, Paul Hendrix (Lorranie), Melvin Hendricks (Edna) and Dudley “Boots” Hendricks (Vada); three sisters, Billie Keene (Martin), Bonnie Spicer and Nancy Tevis (Shelby); 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Ruth Reppert Gatliff

Ruth Reppert Gatliff of Berea, KY went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2012. She was born in Fairview, KY to Eugene and Liddie Reppert. She was married on March 14, 1946, to Philip Gatliff of Berea. During their years together they resided in New London, Ohio and later moved to Rochester Indiana. While is Rochester, Ruth worked with physically-challenged people at Manitou Training Center as was the activities director at a local nursing home.
After retirement Ruth and Phil moved back to Berea, KY where they are members of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.

BEREA — Mr. Luis Bingham Boneta, age 77, of Berea, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, in his home after a long illness. He was born on Aug. 21, 1934, in Dallas,Texas, the son of the late Dr. Thomas and Ruth Bingham Boneta, and his late step-mother, LaVerne Boneta.

He was a retired machinist for the L&N Railroad, where he worked for 29 years, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a student at Eastern Kentucky University and a graduate of Millersburg Military Institute.

BEREA — Ethyel Lane Ezell, born Dec. 3, 1925 in Auglaize, Mo., graduated to the wider life of heaven Jan. 11, 2012, from the Berea Health Care Center, Berea, Ky. Thus ended years of struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ethyel is preceded in death by: husband Joseph Ezell Jr. (1981); son Timothy W. Ezell (1969); her parents and eight siblings. She is survived by: her daughter, Wyndee Ezell Holbrook; son-in-law, Mitch Holbrook; her beloved grandson and namesake, Lane Thomas Holbrook; generations of nephews and nieces; friends and once-upon-a-time children she guided in Sunday school and Girl Scouts.

Mr. Jackie McKinney, age 58, husband of Brenda of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 1st, 2012 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

Jackie was born on February 23rd, 1953 in Somerset, Kentucky; a son of Clarice Todd McKinney and the late Arthur Joplin McKinney. On June 9th, 1973 Jackie married Brenda Sue Osborne and from that union came one son, Joshua. He was an employee at Okonite for 33 years. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing for crappie, drag racing and seeing the container ships in Savannah River. He was a member of Wildie Christian Church in Wildie, KY.

Gatewood Galbraith Dies at 64

Gatewood Galbraith was found unresponsive in his bed this morning by family members.
Galbraith had been having trouble for some time with congestion in his lungs and had been on medication for such. The coroners office listed the cause of death as complications from chronic emphysema, no autopsy will be preformed.
Galbraith had run for various offices in Kentucky throughout the years such as U.S. representative, the attorney general, and Governor this past November.
Galbraith leaves behind three children. Milward Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 19, 1948, in Casey County, Ky., the daughter of Thomas L. and Clytha (Salyers) Godbey. Lemetta was active in the Madison County 4-H and was a Madison County Homemaker of the Year. LEXINGTON — Charles Jack Foster Sr., 76, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in Mayfair Manor in Lexington.

Mr. Foster, son of the late Arthur Foster and Roxie Anglin James, was born in Madison County on Oct. 10, 1935. He had most recently worked for Walmart. Mr. Foster enjoyed fishing and golfing and was known for his love of people. He also liked old country and bluegrass music and he loved his special pets. Shirley Rose was born April 9, 1939 in Jackson County and departed this life Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center in Richmond, being 72 years of age. He was the son of the late Dan & Zelma (Isaacs) Rose.

Shirley is survived by two children, Terry Rose of Boone County and Amanda Rose of Berea. He is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Rose and Nolan Rose both of McKee and by two sisters, Novella Toler of McKee and Roberta Bays of Burlington. He was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews and by a special friend Linda Abney.

In addition to his parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by a sister, Lou Jean Rose and by three brothers, Garnet Rose, Troy Jr. Rose and Larry Rose. Shirley was a member of the In Jesus Name Church of God.

Nita J. Gillespie Ressler, 84, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center of Richmond, Kentucky. She was born on October 2, 1927, in Blair, Oklahoma, to the late Roy Wells and Maggie Grace Plew Gillespie. She was the widow of MSgt. Harry Kaylor Ressler (Ret.).

Mrs. Ressler had worked as a retail grocery clerk for many years and was a homemaker, who loved reading in her spare time. In 1945, she was crowned the Cotton Queen of Kern County, California, and was very proud of this accomplishment for her efforts in supporting the military.

Glenn R. Marshall, 66, passed away on Monday morning, December 5, 2011 at his Waco cabin.

Glenn was born on July 16, 1945 in Madison County and was the son of Glenard Bush Marshall and Anna Margaret Hunter Marshall. During the Vietnam Era, he served in the U.S. Army, spending 18 months in Korea. Glenn was a teacher, coach, and school administrator, having previously served as Superintendent and Interim Superintendent of Madison County Schools. He was currently Assistant Superintendent of Madison County Schools. The Richmond Chamber of Commerce had honored him with the B. Michael Caudill Educator of the Year Award. Glenn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenard Bush Marshall, and one brother, Curtis Marshall.

Michael R. “Mike” Blevins, 43, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 25, 1968, in Richmond, Kentucky. Mike served in the Kentucky National Guard for eight years and loved to fish, hunt, and play golf with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Burdett H. Blevins and is survived by his mother, Susan Nipp Blevins, and aunt, Opal Sumner of Carolina, and an uncle, Ralph Blevins of Richmond.

Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with John Tussey officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
