Stephen Bruce Newman, age 62, of Barker Lane West in Berea, passed away Wednesday morning at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Stephen was born in Madison County to the late David Grant and Ruby Lee Newman.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and retiree of Sherwin Williams. He belonged to the American Legion and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Denise Van Winkle, age 44, passed away Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY. She was born April 7th, 1974 in Berea, KY to Bonnie Lou Eversole Van Winkle and the late William Earl Van Winkle.

Denise was of the Holiness faith and loved to attend church at the 1016 Holiness, Bobtown Holiness and Big Hill Holiness Churches. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music, going to Tennessee and girls shopping days. Continue reading Denise Van Winkle

Brandon Kyle Lamb, 32, of Mt. Vernon died suddenly Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital Berea. Born in Richmond he lived in the Berea area all his life.

Brandon was a loving father, member of the Baptist faith, an auto body professional at Sander’s Collision, a huge sports fan and a member of the Big Blue Nation. Brandon also loved his family, classic cars, and motorcycles.

Survivors include his son, Westyn Kyle Lamb; his father, Dean Lamb (Debbie) and mother, Lisa Azbill (Ronnie); siblings, Christopher and Joshua Lamb; step-siblings, Joshua Azbill, Christy Croucher, Heather Azbill, Timothy Collins, Mindy Divine, Jessica Pinson; grandparents Glyndon and Brenda Anglin, Chester and Corina Azbill. Artrice “Dottie” Lanelle (Middleton) Thacker, 71, of Richmond, passed away Thursday evening, November 22, 2018, at Baptist Health – Richmond. Born on August 7, 1947, in Evarts, Kentucky, she was the daughter of George Stephen and Rebecca Loretta (Day) Middleton, both of whom preceded her in death.

Artrice was a retired teacher for the Madison County School system and was of the Baptist faith.

Dottie is described by family and friends as honest, kindhearted, forgiving, empathetic, encouraging, and gentle-spirited. Above all, she loved her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ with all her heart. She is loved by many and will never be forgotten. Continue reading OBITUARIES NOV 18-25, 2018

Randall Keith Conley, 63, of Berea, KY, passed away on November 20, 2018. He was born to parents Cecil Dean Conley and Leatha Katherine Conley December 23, 1954 in Paintsville, Kentucky.

He attended Salyersville High School before joining the Army in December, 1973. He served until April, 1975.

Randall and Connie Lynn Kelley were married August 19, 1978. Together, they raised three children: Rick Conley (Glenda) of Salyersville, Ky, Kelley Nicole Cox (Keaneen) and Angela Carol McMullin (Stacey) of Berea, Ky. Continue reading Randall Keith Conley

Alan was a retired plumber with Berea College. He loved his work, riding horses, and was a great provider for his family. Alan was of the Baptist faith.

Diana Lynn Wylie Jones, 65, wife of Wallace Jones, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Saint Joseph Berea. She was born October 26, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio to the late James A. and Elsie Mae Howard Wylie.

Mrs. Jones was a hairdresser for many years at Jean’s Beauty Shop. She was a wonderful cook, loved spending time with her family and an avid fan of foreign films. She attended First Christian Church of Berea.

Mrs. Britton was an avid UK Basketball fan, loved to play bridge and spend time with her family. She was also an advocate for animals, often taking supplies to the Madison County Humane Society. Billy Keith “Bill” Eden, 87, of West Columbia, SC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 8, 2018. He was born in Berea, KY, the son of the late Jesse Arthur Eden and the late Gladys Norvelle Eden.

Bill was a dedicated husband and father, survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucy Wise Eden; children, Cindy (Laird) Thompson, Randy (Sharon) Eden, Melody (Mike) Collins and Billie Kay (Jeff) Morris; grandchildren, Jacob and Nicholas Thompson, Evan Eden, Grant and Keith Gouveia, Jonathan Eden, Mic Collins, Jesse, Cole, Faith and Sam Morris, and 9 great grandchildren. Jodie Jack Shelton, 87, of Conway (Rockcastle County) died at his residence Sunday, November 4, 2018 following an illness. He was a Cruise, Kentucky (Laurel County) native, born February 20, 1931, son of the late John D. Shelton and the late Della Helton Sorrell.

He was a U. S. Army Veteran, Korean War and resident of Conway for the past 38 years after moving from Indiana.

Martha Jean Childress, age 92, passed away Saturday Nov. 3, 2018 at Saint Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Childress was born in Dayton, Ohio Dec. 23, 1925 to the late Eugene and Minnie Mae Sizemore McDermott.

Mrs. Childress loved her church, loved singing and playing the piano. She was a member of the Harmons Lick Church of God.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by two husbands, Sherman Lee Damrell and Charlie Childress, one daughter, Judith Ann Damrell, three brothers, Jim McDermott, Robert McDermott, John McDermott, three sisters, Peggy Massie, Dorothy Sipe’ Williamson, and Mary Shiflet. Regina Kaye Gross, age 48, of Salt Lick, KY wife of Adam Gross died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Tuesday, October 30, 2018 in Frenchburg, KY. Mrs. Gross was born in Dayton, Ohio October 12, 1970 the late Willard Hodge and Vivian Carol Marcum Cifferri.

Mrs. Gross was a homemaker and loved her family and friends, she was a very creative photographer in her spare time. She was a member of the Crestview Holiness Church in Berea, KY.

Other than her husband and mother she is survived by; her children, Alisha Parden (Kyle Isaacs) of Richmond, KY, Aaron Walker of Tennessee, Jaden Gross of Salt Lick, KY, and Dakota Mezzatesta of Tennessee. One sister Denise Marriott and her fiancé Chris Howell of Brentwood, Ohio and six grandchildren, Alyson Parden, Erica Parden, Natalie Parden, Kylee Isaacs, Taelyn Mezzatesta, and T.J. Amanda Jean Allen age 38, daughter of Danny and Wanda Jean Allen of Berea, died Tuesday Oct. 23, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Amanda was an employee at Arby’s Restaurant in Berea and loved to weld, she was the first girl to learn welding in vocational school in Rockcastle County.

Randall Paul Wayne Powell, AKA “Randy The King”, age 41, passed away Tuesday Oct. 23, 2018 at Baptist Health in Richmond. Randall was born June 16, 1977 in Cincinnati, OH to Randall Powell and Wanda Lou Rose Rogers.

Randall enjoyed drawing and being outdoors fishing and riding horses. He loved helping others, was loved by many and had a heart of gold.

Randall is survived by his wife Kimberly Hillard Powell, his father, Randall Powell and his wife Bertha of Tampa, Fl., his mother Wanda Rogers and her husband Keith of Berea, KY., three step children, Chris Robinson, Aspen Robinson, Ciara Robinson, two sisters, Nancy Powell of Berea, KY., Deliah Powell Smith of Clarksville TN., three nephews, four nieces, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends. Mr. Dixon loved to fish, build and collect model cars, and he was a great mechanic. His family considered him a Jack of All Trades.

Dillard Parrett was born September 15, 1932 in Jackson County and departed this life Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 86 years of age. He was the son of the late Henry & Mary (Vaughn) Parrett.

Dillard is survived by his wife, Charylene (Eads) Parrett of Berea and by six children, Debra Kay (Jr.) McDaniel of Richmond, Wendell (Peggy) Parrett of Jackson County, Jeff Parrett of Annville, Tony (Teresa) Parrett of Berea, Shelia Parrett of Mt. Vernon and Kathy Proffitt of London and by three step children, Steve (Pam) Mounts, Jeff (Lisa) Mounts of Berea and Scott (Nina) Mounts of Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by a brother, David Parrett and his wife Virgie of Berea and by a sister, Henrietta Andrews and her husband Bruce of Berea. Randall “Randy” Lee Miller, age 59, husband of 41 years to Pam Robinson Miller, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington KY. He was born, December 11, 1958 in Berea, KY to the late Howard and Stella VanWinkle Miller.

Randy obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University. He retired after 30 years at Toyota Motor North America, most recently serving as Human Resources Manager. Randy was of the Baptist faith and a long-time member and deacon at Dry Run Baptist Church in Georgetown, KY. He was a member of Gideon’s International since 1998 and a volunteer speaker. He served as the Scott County President for the American Heart Association and a board member of Hospice of the Bluegrass, California State University at Long Beach and Crime Stoppers.
