April Robinson

April Robinson age 45, wife of Joe Robinson Jr., died Saturday March 16, 2019 in an accident in Brazil, Indiana. April was born in Johnson County, Indiana to Paul and Teresa Cole Osborne of Berea, KY.

She was a loving mother and truck driver for Ryder Integrated Logistics, and she was a member of the Berea Evangelistic Church in Berea, Kentucky.

Hart, Bobby Lee, age 89, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on March 16, 2019. Bobby grew up in Berea, KY and absolutely loved his hometown.

He graduated from Berea High School and received his BS in History and Business Management from Berea College in 1950. He bravely served our country as First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1950-1954. Bobby was a hard worker and spent most of his career at Parker Hannfifin, Gibson Greeting Card and the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Berea Lions Club, Berea Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 50, an avid UK fan, loved cars and enjoyed every moment spent on Hilton Head Island. Beverly Ann McHone, age 71, widow of Charles Burton McHone, passed away Friday March 15, 2019 at her residence in Berea, Ky. Mrs. McHone was born Oct. 23, 1947 to the late Ed Blair & Mary Lake Blair Reed.

Beverly loved to cook, loved the Ky Wildcats and watching Nascar. She liked spending time with friends and especially her grandchildren. Beverly is of the Baptist faith attending church at Galilee Baptist Church.

John Edwin Miller, age 81, husband of 61 years to Dorothy Schuette Miller, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Saint Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, KY. Mr. Miller was born September 19, 1937 in Clark County IL., to the late Rev. Walter and Mary Calvert Miller.

Mr. Miller was an Industrial Engineer working at Dresser Industries for thirty plus years. He was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, a woodworker, made musical instruments, loved to garden, an excellent cook, enjoyed traveling, history, and visiting historical sites. Steve Jones, age 70, husband for 47 years to Alene Jackson Jones passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was born January 18, 1949 in Manchester, KY to the late Arley and Betsy Milburn Jones.

He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam, being a disabled veteran, he was an activist for veteran’s rights. He also loved UK Basketball and hunting and fishing.

Dr. Janice Burdette Blythe was born on November 3, 1950 in Lancaster, Garrard County. She grew up on the family farm and is the daughter of the late James H. and Anna Margaret Burdette. She was baptized at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Boones Creek when she was 8 years old. She was presently a member of the First Baptist Church at Richmond.

Janice completed her undergraduate degree in Administrative Dietetics, with a minor in Business Administration, from Eastern Kentucky University. She completed the one-year Dietetic Internship to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at the V.A. Medical Center and the Chandler Medical Center, University of Kentucky and remained at UK to complete the Masters of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition in the College of Health Sciences. Cecil “Dude” Cochran, 86, retired Madison County Sheriff, and the widower of Betsy Barclay Cochran, passed away Friday afternoon, March 8, 2019 at Baptist Health in Richmond. Dude was born on September 22, 1932 in Madison County at White Station. He was the son of the late Cecil Sr. and Arebell Marcum Cochran.

Ernest “Ernie” Leslie Swinford, 72, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at his home after a long illness. Born August 4th, 1946 in Berea to the late Clyde and Willetta Childress Swinford.

He worked at Parker – Hannifin for 33 years and 10 years at AGC Flat Glass North America. Ernie graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1964 and attended Eastern Kentucky University for a couple of years. A United States Army Veteran during the Vietnam Era he also spent time in the Army Reserve as an MP. Ernie was a huge, proud member of the Big Blue Nation and also enjoyed golfing, crosswords and fishing. He married October 17, 1998 to Debra Jane Duerson – Swinford, and was of the Baptist faith. Austin Dwayne Jordan, 10, beloved son of Lissa and Michael Jordan of Phoenix, Arizona passed away February 12, 2019, as a result of a battle with leukemia. Austin was born in Middletown, Ohio on September 6, 2008.

He had lived in St. Louis, Missouri, Winfield, West Virginia, St. Simons Island, Georgia and Phoenix leaving behind dearly loved friends in each of these cities. Austin was a gifted student at Kyrene de la Sierra school district with the homebound program. He loved his family, friends from many places, school and video games. Susan A. Voit Harris, age 86, widow of Jack Conway Harris, passed away Thursday February 28, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. She was born in Mahnomen, Minnesota to the late Benjamin and Mary Kloeppel Voit.

Mrs. Harris was a member of the New Vision Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Marie Evans of Florida, two nephews, Anthony and George Pinna, two nieces Paula Schintgen, and Marie Hartung all of Minnesota.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Whittemore officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 PM at the funeral home

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, loved going to church, loved the Lord, loved to fish, and never met a stranger. Mrs. Johns was a member of the Narrow Way Church of God in Jesus Name.

Wilma Cooper Chambers was born on April 16, 1965, and died on February 18, 2019, at the age of 53. She grew up in Owsley County, Kentucky, surrounded by her six siblings and loving parents, Willie and Emma Cooper. Her family taught her to work hard, laugh frequently, and love fiercely.

She was the first in her family to go to college, and she enrolled at Berea in 1983. She said Berea College was a special place that changed her life. There she met and married the love of her life, Orlando Chambers, and they had a daughter, Cassie. Wilma graduated with a degree in Child Development in 1991, with her five-year-old daughter by her side in matching cap and gown. She believed in the power of education. She was fun loving, outgoing, enjoyed time with family, loved to play the lottery, liked to dance, and very culturally diversed. Mrs. Walker was a member of the First Baptist Church Berea at Middletown.

Lila Raye Davis Bellando, age 78, wife of Richard passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Mrs. Bellando was born September 23, 1940 in Athens, Alabama to the late Earl and Lela Smith Davis and at age four moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where she graduated from high school.

She received her undergraduate degree from Berea College and a Master of Education from Eastern Kentucky University. Mrs. Bellando along with her husband purchased Churchill Weavers in 1973 and she became President and designer, operating the company, with her husband Richard, until 2007. Under her guidance the total archives of Churchill Weavers from 1928 – 2007 is now housed in the Kentucky Historical Society. The archive is said to be the largest American Textile collection in existence. Continue reading Lila Bellando
