Willie Walker Coffey, age 95, passed away Tuesday November 7, 2019 at Berea Health & Rehabilitation in Berea, KY. Willie was born July 31, 1924 in Rockcastle County to the late James and Lula Potter Coffey.

Willie was an avid storyteller. Telling stories about his youth and growing up. In his younger days, he would ride a bicycle from Berea to Hazard to visit family. Then as most would remember he traveled by moped everywhere he went. Willie attended Narrow Way Church of God in Jesus Name.

Mr. Nelson E. O’Donnell, 67, of Newby, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, at his home. Nelson was born in the Newby Community of Madison County on February 1, 1952 to the late William “Bill” and Lucy Newby O’Donnell.

Michelle Denise Skirvin, age 53, passed away Tuesday Nov. 12, 2019 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital in Berea, KY. Michelle was born Mar. 10, 1966 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Richard and Caroline Zint Skirvin.

Michelle had a special love for animals especially her dog Corky and her cat Blue.

Michelle is survived by her wife of 15yrs. Gracie Sizemore of Berea, KY., 3 brothers, Richard Skirvin and his wife Linda, Keith Skirvin, Doug Skirvin, 2 nephews, Bryan Skirvin, Alex Skirvin all of Ohio, 3 step children, Earlene Holstein, Evan Sizemore, Elliot Sizemore, 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Tava, Clyde, Sadie, Alice, Ryder, and Willow.

Robert Braeden Patton Combs, age 18, departed this life after a tragic accident in Butler County on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Braeden was born in Lexington, KY on June 1, 2001 to Alison Patton Holland and Robert Shannon Combs.

He was a former student of Edmonson County and Madison Central High Schools.

At the age of fifteen, he became a junior volunteer firefighter and remained an active member of the Chalybeate and Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Departments. He was employed by the Edmonson County Road Department, a job he was extremely proud of. Most recently, he had started training to obtain his CDL license. For a period of time, while residing in Richmond, he was an employee of Miller Tire and Auto Care, and also an associate at the Waco Volunteer Fire Department.

Katherine “Granny” Huff, 92, died Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Born June 11, 1927 in Berea, the daughter of the late Grover and Maude Vaughan Ballinger,.

She was the oldest member of Middletown Baptist Church, a Berea College employee for 21 years, was a prolific quilter, word search devotee and baked numerous jam cakes for Christmas presents every year. She was also known for her chow-chow which was made with much effort and thoroughly enjoyed by hundreds of people.

Teresa Lynn Vinson, 52, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at her home. She was born July 3, 1967, in Richmond, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Ollie D. Barnes and the late Sheirlan Lovett Barnes. 

Teresa was an employee of United Refrigeration in Richmond and was an avid Florida Gators fan.  She enjoyed helping others in need and most of all, she loved her family.  Teresa was of the Baptist faith.

Steven Wayne Hymer

Steven Wayne Hymer, age 62, husband of 31 years to Lynn Despard Hymer passed away Thursday, November 7th, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.  Steve was born July 15th, 1957 in Berea, Kentucky to Wayne O. Hymer and the late Maureen Begley Hymer. 

He was a graduate of Berea Community High School class of 1975 and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a lifetime member of the PGA and was player of the year in 1996 for the Kentucky section, Steve was instrumental in the development of Andover Golf and Country Club in Lexington and had in the past managed the Bull in Richmond and the Berea Country Club. He also taught school in Lake City, Florida early in his career.  Steve was an avid pianist and was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Berea.

Jimmy Lou Jackson

Jimmy Lou Jackson, age 75, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born July 25th, 1943 to the late Charles “Buck” and Mary Lee Henderson Jackson.

She was a business woman and a glass artist owning and operating Hot Flash Beads for many years, she was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Guild of Artist and Craftsmen, and a winner of the Frost award. Ms. Jackson never married and didn’t regret it, never had children but nurtured many. She was a big woman with a big laugh and a wicked sense of humor. She saved lives and stomped out disease for 35 years screening for cancer cells. Ms. Jackson was a member and elder of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Berea.

Roy D. Ingram, age 84, husband of 63 years to Lucy Edna Montgomery Ingram, passed away Tuesday October 29, 2019 at his residence in Berea, KY. Roy was born November 13, 1934 in Berea, KY to the late Charlie and Lucy Frances Brewer Ingram.

Roy loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to church, motorcycles, airplanes and watching sports, especially his sons and grandchildren’s games. Roy was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church.

Marvin Wayne McCracken, 75, of Berea departed this life for his heavenly home Monday, October 21, 2019 at Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Born at Conway, KY January 25, 1944, son to the late Casper Lee and Macie French McCracken.

He was a member of Liberty Avenue Baptist Church, a 37 ½ year Manager and shipping clerk at Dresser Industries and is already missed by his family and friends.

Rev. Bill Rose was born on June 28, 1932 into the home of Clark and Pearl Nunn Rose, at Chestnut Flat, Jackson County, KY and went home to be with the Lord at his residence in Berea, KY at approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 22, 2019 being 87 years of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings – Owen Rose, Vernon Rose, Chester Rose and Della Cain and one daughter – Marlene Sparks (married to Ray Sparks).

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 67 years, Christine Hobbs Rose. They were united in holy matrimony on October 17, 1952. To that union was added 9 children.

Rose Phyliss Williams Beckett, age 92, widow of the late William Kenneth Beckett, Sr., passed away Saturday October 19, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington KY. Mrs. Beckett was born May 16, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late Fred and Elizabeth Delrompell Williams.

Rose was a homemaker, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and of the Baptist Faith.

Other than her husband and parents, Rose was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Williams.

Mary Labus, age 63, a 40-year employee of Berea College, passed away on October 16, 2019. Mary was born in West Hamlin, West Virginia to the late Michael Peter and Charline Meadows Labus.

Mary was a graduate of Berea College Class of 1978. She worked in the Alumni and College Relations office in the Advancement Services department at Berea College as Manager of Data and Analytics. Mary was a bright light on campus and in the Berea Community; she was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.

Alfred Harrison “Pinball” LeMaster, age 65, passed away Friday Oct. 11, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. Mr. LeMaster was born Sept. 15, 1954 in Straubing Germany to the late Harrison Lee and Theresia Ann Marie Kachlmeier LeMaster.

He loved helping others, riding his Harley, and being a member of the Midnight Riders Motorcycle Club. Mr. LeMaster was of the Catholic faith.

Jerry Lee Satterfield, age 62, of Berea, died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at his home. Jerry was born in Madison County, Kentucky to the late Carlo and Sadie Lamb Satterfield.

He was formerly employed by Okonite in Richmond.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings; William Satterfield, Lester Satterfield, Robert Satterfield, Ted Satterfield, Chester Satterfield, and Mayfre Woodson; and four brothers-in-law, Glenn Alexander, Donnie Marshall, James Woodson and Willard Croucher; and one sister-in-law, Rita Satterfield.

Steve “Doc” Gibson, age 60, of Berea, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at his home. Steve was born in West Liberty, Kentucky to Naomi Elam Gibson and the late Ellis Gibson.

He was a retired Lab Tech from Sherwin Williams. In his free time, he enjoyed hanging out with his buddies.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Gibson, who was his caregiver and helped look after him; his mother, Naomi Gibson; one sister, Sheila (Frank) Napier; two nephews, Brandon (Brittany) Napier and Justin Napier; and one great nephew, Lincoln Napier.
