Bernice S. Turner

Bernice S. Turner, age 72, of Red Lick, passed away January 12, 2019.

Bernice was retired from the Madison County School System after 28 years of service as a bus driver and cook. As a child, she attended Owsley Fork Baptist Church and also some churches of the Holiness faith. Bernice was a very hard worker who loved her family, gardening and tending to neighboring families. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Ermon E. Turner Jr., sons, Jimmy (Kim) Turner, Mitchell Turner; daughter Rebecca Mays; sisters, Beulah (Bobby) Ball, Idona Turner, Jenetta (Jimmie) Lamb, and Linda (Rip) VanWinkle; grandchildren, Jarred Turner, Cloya Brooke Norton, Cody Turner, Nieca Mays, and Dustin Eldridge; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Nelson Gill Jr. age 41, passed away Saturday Jan. 5, 2019 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington Ky. Nelson was born July 26, 1977 in Richmond Ky., to Marvin Nelson Gill Sr. and the late Linda Kay Montgomery Gill.

Janie Marie Johnson Pearson, 80, of Berea, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital & Respiratory Care Center in Mt. Vernon after a short illness. Born May 24, 1938 in Madison County, daughter of the late Ralph “ET” and Alberta Carrier Johnson.

She was a retired line worker at Parker-Seal for forty years. Working six days a week for several years, she would have kept working had the plant not closed. A proud member of the Berea Church of God, when God made Janie, He made a Saint! Always caring, loving, smiling and willing to help out any way she could. Serving God all her life and loving her children were special joys every day. She also enjoyed reading the Bible and sitting on the front porch watching the cars go by. Janie loved to cook when able, when not she told her daughters what to get and cook which included her favorites: cornbread, fried potatoes, vegetable soup, taco salads, cold cut subs and strawberry milkshakes. George Douglas Bryant

George Douglas Bryant, age 72, of Dogwood Drive, passed away, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. George was born in Berea, Kentucky to the late George Theodore and Alma Christine McKeehan Bryant.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, was a retired employee of Delta Natural Gas, and a longtime member of Moore’s Grocery Lunch Bunch.

George is survived by his wife Geneva “Genny” Sharp Bryant, two daughters, Genene Rogers and Georganna (Doug) Kirby; one sister, Dinahbet Hall; and three grandchildren, Dalton Rogers, Kelsey Rogers, and Levi Kirby. Continue reading George Douglas Bryant

Robert was a metal heat treater with National Metal Processing and retired after 33yrs of service. He was a Poultry and Rabbit Judge for 16yrs with the Ky State Fairs in Estill and Madison Counties. Delores E Anderson, age 82, formerly of Berea, Kentucky passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at her residence in North Port, Florida. She was born April 14, 1936 in Paintsville, KY. Her parents were John and Elizabeth McClellan.

Charlene Rudder Pullins, age 84, wife of the late Jim Pullins entered eternal life Saturday December 29, 2018 at St Joseph hospital in Lexington. Mrs. Pullins was born June 19, 1934 in Lewis County, Ky., to the late Newell and Wanda Ginn Rudder.

Mrs. Pullins was a retired teacher of 34 years, with 25yrs in 5th grade social studies at Berea Community Elementary School. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as deacon and was a former chairman of the board. She was also a board member of Habitat for Humanity serving on many committees. Ed was a member of Middletown Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 617, former owner of AAA Garage Door Co., an avid fisherman and hunter.

Mr. James Tony Taylor, age 83, of Mount Vernon, Ky, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 27, 2018. James was born in Brindle Ridge, KY, a son of the late Nannie Taylor, on February 3, 1935.

He proudly served his country for several years through the United States Army. He was a member of Roundstone Baptist Church, and often enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and helping others with electricity work. He was united in marriage to his wife, Flora Mae Taylor on January 18, 1960.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife Flora Mae Taylor of Mount Vernon, KY; daughter: Debi Moore and Danny of Mount Vernon, KY; three grandchildren: Niki Klave and John, Cody Moore, and Tony Moore; two great-grandchildren: Ava Klave, and Roman Klave; as well as a host of friends and neighbors. Shirley Ann VanWinkle Eversole, age 64, wife of the late Joe Sidney Eversole, passed away Wednesday December 26, 2018 at Saint Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Eversole was born January 16, 1954 in Jackson County to the late Jack and Edna Mae VanWinkle Abrams.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Mrs. Stout was retired from Dresser Industries. She attended the Scaffold Cane Baptist Church.

Barbara Ann Terrill (Graves) age 78, widow of the late Billy Terrill, died Sunday December 23, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Barbara was born February 24, 1940 in Rockcastle County to the late Robert and Lorene Gentry Graves.

Barbara was retired from Berea Hospital where she worked many years as the head cook, and she attended the Chestnut Ridge Church of God with her sister.

James “Skip” Miller SMSGT, USAF Retired was born on September 15, 1942 in French Camp, CA to Clem and Rema Miller. He passed away peacefully on December 13, 2018 in Richmond, KY.

Skip was the oldest of Clem & Rema’s four children. He graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma, WA in 1960 & joined the Air Force to serve his country. Skip quickly found his passion with the field of Military Police. During his 27-year career, he served at numerous locations and conflicts including the Berlin Wall Crisis, Cuban Crisis, Vietnam War at Tan Son Nhut, and the Cold War. Stephen Bruce Newman, age 62, of Barker Lane West in Berea, passed away Wednesday morning at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Stephen was born in Madison County to the late David Grant and Ruby Lee Newman.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and retiree of Sherwin Williams. He belonged to the American Legion and was a Kentucky Colonel.
