Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, State Farm® team up to provide state’s free roadside service

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Secretary Greg Thomas today announced State Farm as the new sponsor of the state’s highly regarded SAFE Patrol free roadway assistance service – marking the first time a public and private entity have teamed up for the program. The service delivers on KYTC and State Farm’s focus on improving highway safety in Kentucky and has come to the aid of stranded motorists and law enforcement to provide nearly 350,000 assists on major highways throughout the state in the last decade.

Berea College Joins with Other Colleges and Universities in Choral-Orchestral Performance

Five musical ensembles from three Kentucky regional colleges and universities will join the Berea College Concert Choir in a collaborative performance Nov. 3 and 4. The concert in Berea will take place Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m., at Union Church. An identical program will be performed on the main stage at Norton Center in Danville at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, Nov. 3. Both concerts are free to the public. Free Fishing Workshop For Educators Planned

Fishing at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park is hosting a “Teacher’s Tackle Box” workshop for teachers and youth group leaders on April 7, 2018.

This free workshop, offered by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, is designed to help adults lead a fishing field trip for youths. No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is designed for educators, scout leaders, and other youth leaders.

44th Celebration of Traditional Music at Berea College

This year’s Celebration of Traditional Music (CTM) greets Halloween by focusing on British and Appalachian ballads, haunting tales of love and loss. The CTM honors the tradition of passing music, stories, and oral history from person to person in the Appalachian Region. Alice Gerrard is the featured performer.

As her website describes, “Simply put, Alice Gerrard is a talent of legendary status. In a career spanning some 50 years, she has known, learned from, and performed with many of the old-time and bluegrass greats and has in turn earned worldwide respect for her own important contributions to the music.”
