BEREA, KY – On Tuesday, November 11, at 11 a.m., Berea will pause to honor those who served.

American Legion Post 50 of Berea is hosting its annual Veterans Day ceremony, a tradition that brings the community together to say a simple but powerful “thank you” to the men and women who wore the uniform.

Location Update: This year’s ceremony will be held at the Russel Acton Folk Center at 212 W Jefferson Street, instead of Berea Memorial Park.

A Day of Gratitude, Not Politics

Veterans Day is not a political event. It’s a day set aside to honor all who served—regardless of when, where, or in what capacity. From World War II veterans to those who served in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, and peacetime service, the ceremony recognizes every generation of service.

American Legion Post 50 has been a fixture in Berea for decades, serving as a gathering place for local veterans and a voice for veteran advocacy in Madison County. The post meets monthly on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 101 Holly Street and is always looking for new members—both veterans and community supporters.

The American Legion itself was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization focused on service to veterans, servicemembers, and communities. Today, it remains one of the largest and most influential veterans service organizations in the country, with posts in nearly every American town.

How to Attend

The ceremony is free and open to the public. All are welcome—veterans, active-duty servicemembers, families, and community members who simply want to show their gratitude.

Parking: Street parking is available along W Jefferson Street near the Russel Acton Folk Center. The Folk Center is located in downtown Berea, within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

What to Expect: The ceremony will include remarks, the presentation of colors, and a moment of silence to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Dress is casual, and attendees are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early.

The event typically lasts about 30 minutes, making it easy to attend even for those with busy schedules.

A Community Tradition

For many Berea residents, the Veterans Day ceremony is an annual tradition—a chance to stand alongside neighbors and say thank you to those who served. It’s a reminder that freedom isn’t free, and that the sacrifices made by veterans and their families deserve recognition and respect.

Whether you’re a veteran yourself, the family member of someone who served, or simply a grateful citizen, American Legion Post 50 invites you to join them on Tuesday morning.
