BEREA — Mr. Luis Bingham Boneta, age 77, of Berea, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, in his home after a long illness. He was born on Aug. 21, 1934, in Dallas,Texas, the son of the late Dr. Thomas and Ruth Bingham Boneta, and his late step-mother, LaVerne Boneta.

He was a retired machinist for the L&N Railroad, where he worked for 29 years, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a student at Eastern Kentucky University and a graduate of Millersburg Military Institute.

BEREA — Ethyel Lane Ezell, born Dec. 3, 1925 in Auglaize, Mo., graduated to the wider life of heaven Jan. 11, 2012, from the Berea Health Care Center, Berea, Ky. Thus ended years of struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ethyel is preceded in death by: husband Joseph Ezell Jr. (1981); son Timothy W. Ezell (1969); her parents and eight siblings. She is survived by: her daughter, Wyndee Ezell Holbrook; son-in-law, Mitch Holbrook; her beloved grandson and namesake, Lane Thomas Holbrook; generations of nephews and nieces; friends and once-upon-a-time children she guided in Sunday school and Girl Scouts.

Parasites Found on Lake Cumberland Striped Bass


FRANKFORT, Ky. – Fisheries biologists at Lake Cumberland found a parasitic copepod is the cause of unusual sores on the tongue and mouth of striped bass in the lake.

“When we sampled the lakes striped bass fishery in mid-December, every fish we handled was infested,” said John Williams, southeastern district fishery biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

The copepod, genus Achtheres, has been found in recent years in mountain lakes in Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

“The parasites infest the fishs oral cavity and do not affect the fishs flesh. The fish are okay to eat,” said Williams.

Jarod Douglas “Lil Jer-Jer” Stokley II, infant son of Jarod Douglas Stokley & Loretta Faye Wallace, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at his home in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Survivors include his parents, Jarod and Loretta; his paternal grandparents, John Stokley & Margaret Burdine, and Diana Stokley; his maternal grandparents, Madlyen Cook & Jamie and Douglas Wallace & Melissa; one sister, Jayla Darla Stokley; aunts, Susan Wallace, Kierston Wallace, Michelle Alcorn and Canei Wilson; uncles, Johnathan Stokley, Joshua Stokley, Arvis Curtis, Brandon Curtis, Travis Curtis, Stanley Wallace and Tim Tucker; special cousins, Jordon, Jabron, Jaidon Stokley and Ileme Curtis.

Jackie McKinney

Mr. Jackie McKinney, age 58, husband of Brenda of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 1st, 2012 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

Jackie was born on February 23rd, 1953 in Somerset, Kentucky; a son of Clarice Todd McKinney and the late Arthur Joplin McKinney. On June 9th, 1973 Jackie married Brenda Sue Osborne and from that union came one son, Joshua. He was an employee at Okonite for 33 years. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed fishing for crappie, drag racing and seeing the container ships in Savannah River. He was a member of Wildie Christian Church in Wildie, KY.
