BEREA, Ky. — A two-day blacksmithing workshop in Berea will give participants a hands-on opportunity to craft practical, outdoor cooking tools while mastering traditional forging skills.
🗓 Dates: Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 7
⏰ Time:9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (both days)
📍 Location: Berea Makerspace, 116 Spring Circle Drive
🧑🏭 Format: Beginner-friendly, hands-on project workshop
“Campfire Forging with Don Weber” is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days at the Berea Makerspace facility, located at 116 Spring Circle Drive.
The two-day workshop is designed as a beginner-friendly project for area residents interested in blacksmithing and toolmaking.
⚒️ Forging Open-Fire Hardware
According to regional tourism listings, the curriculum splits foundational skills across two distinct operational days:
Day One: Focuses on the basics of making a fry pan holder and traditional utility S-hooks.
Day Two: Elevates the training to forging an outdoor cooking tripod utilizing half-inch square stock.
The project connects directly to a long tradition of making tools that are both useful and handmade. Instead of only watching a demonstration, students will work through a hands-on process and leave with forged campfire hardware they helped create. The class is part of Berea’s broader craft and maker culture, where traditional skills are still taught in practical, community-accessible settings.
🧾 Registration Guidelines and Shop Apparel
Because blacksmithing requires dedicated anvil space and individual forge access, registration capacity is strictly limited. At the time of publication, the Berea Makerspace booking portal indicates only three available spots remain open for the weekend block.
Prerequisites: The class is open to all skill levels. The minimum participation age is 16, and an adult must be present to supervise any participating minors.
Deadlines: Pre-registration with full advance payment is required to secure an anvil space. Registration cancellations will be accepted until Friday, June 5 at 12:00 p.m.
Shop Apparel Safety: Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and clothing made from natural fibers, such as cotton or denim. Synthetic fabrics can melt when exposed to sparks or hot metal, so participants should review Berea Makerspace’s safety instructions before attending.
