First Annual Recovery Walk Brings Hope in Every Step to Berea Community School 🌅

We have a lot of events in Berea that get a lot of attention. This one deserves its own.

The First Annual Recovery Walk: Hope in Every Step is Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Berea Community School, 116 Jane St., Berea, KY. Participants are asked to meet in the school parking lot at 9:00 a.m. to line up and get organized before the walk starts. That 9:00 a.m. meet time comes from the organizers’ Facebook event page.

One quick clarification on the name. This Berea event borrows the phrase “Hope in Every Step” from a different event, a 5K run and walk in St. George, Utah, that same weekend. The two are not connected. This one is ours.

The walk is about hope, healing, recovery, and remembering those we have lost. It is the first annual recovery walk in Berea, and the organizers are inviting the whole community to walk alongside people in recovery, their families, and anyone who has lost someone to addiction.

If you have been touched by addiction, either in your own life or in someone you love, you already know that recovery is not a straight line. It is a series of small steps, some of them hard, and a lot of them taken alone. This walk is a chance to take some of those steps together, in public, with people who understand.

If you have not been touched by addiction, this is still worth your time. You will see neighbors you might not otherwise meet, and you will learn something about what recovery looks like in a small town. You will be supporting people who are doing hard work that most of us never see.

The walk runs two hours, from 10 to noon. That is enough time to walk, talk, and be present without taking over the whole day. You can bring your family. You can bring a friend who is in recovery. You can bring someone who is still struggling and let them see that they are not alone.

Berea Community School sits at 116 Jane St., just off the main roads through town. Jane Street runs through a residential part of Berea, and the school is a familiar landmark for families who have kids there or who have been to events in the gym. If you have not been on that side of town in a while, this is a good reason to go.

The walk is open to everyone. You do not need to be in recovery to participate. You do not need to know someone in recovery. You just need to be willing to walk and to care about the people around you.

If you are in recovery, or if you love someone who is, this is your walk. Come. Bring your people. Let the community see you and support you. If you have lost someone to addiction, come and remember them. There is space for grief here as well as hope.

For those who want to help but cannot make it on November 7, the organizers have a Facebook event page where you can find more information and connect with them directly. The event is listed at facebook.com/events/1900905887949811.

Put it on your calendar. Saturday, November 7, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Berea Community School. Just come. Bring somebody with you. If you have been meaning to get involved in something that matters, this is a place to start.
