MADISON COUNTY, Ky. — Madison County Schools will launch its summer feeding program Monday, June 1, with a kickoff event for families at the Glenn Marshall Elementary and B. Michael Caudill Middle School parking lot.
The kickoff will run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the GME/BMCMS parking lot. The district states the summer feeding program will provide free, healthy breakfasts and lunches for children ages 18 and under.
🍽️ First Free Lunch on June 1
Madison County Schools is encouraging families to attend the kickoff for the first free lunch of the summer program.
The June 1 event gives families a chance to learn how the program works, ask questions of staff, and begin using the summer meal service as the school year transitions into summer break. The district’s calendar lists the kickoff from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the GME/BMCMS parking lot on Goggins Lane.
👧 Who Can Receive Meals
The program is open to all children and teens ages 18 and under.
Summer feeding programs are designed to help families keep children fed when school is out and regular school breakfast and lunch services are not available. Families do not need to treat the program as only open to students from one specific school; it is a county-wide resource.
✅ Meals Must Be Eaten On-Site
Under standard federal summer feeding program rules, meals must be consumed on-site and children must be physically present to receive them. Families should not plan to pick up meals for children who are not with them at the site.
This means the June 1 kickoff is not a grab-and-go bundle pickup. Families should plan for children to attend, sit down, and eat at the site footprint.
📝 What Families Should Check Before Going
Before heading to the kickoff or subsequent summer meal sites throughout June and July, families should check the district’s official updates for registration links, specific pickup instructions, and any site-specific rules. The district’s public posts and school pages direct families to the June 1 kickoff and note that further distribution tracking maps are available through Madison County Schools.
