Berea Police Report 10/8/2019


Drug Arrests:  On 10/02/2019 an officer conducted a traffic stop on Chestnut Street for a turn signal violation. 

There was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrived with a K-9.  The dog alerted on the vehicle and a search was conducted. 

Suspected methamphetamine was located along with marijuana, scales, plastic bags, and three handguns.  A rear passenger in the car gave a false name to the officer but he was eventually able to identify her. The marijuana and handguns were located where she had been sitting. 

Officers arrested 33 year old Angela Sproles of Richmond KY, 20 year old Gerri Kindred of Richmond KY, 20 year old Tyler Cheeks of Berea KY, and 18 year old Benjamin Partin of Berea KY. 

They were all charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine), Trafficking in Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia Possession. 

Kindred and Cheeks were also charged with Giving an Officer False Identifying Information.  Kindred was also charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.  She also had several outstanding arrest warrants. 


Drug Arrest:  On 10/06/2019 an officer conducted a traffic stop on Jill Drive for an expired registration plate. 

After speaking with the driver, the officer requested a K-9 and Officer Harness and K-9 Leo responded to the scene.  Leo gave a positive alert on the vehicle and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was located inside the driver’s purse. 

Officers arrested 37 year old Stephanie Bristow of Richmond KY and charged her with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine) and Drug Paraphernalia Possession. 


Burglary Arrest:  On 10/05/2019 officers were called to an abandoned residence on Leslie Drive in reference to one of the doors standing open. 

Inside of the residence they located a subject who stated that he had entered the home without permission. 

Officers arrested 56 year old Wayne McDaniel of Berea KY and charged him with Burglary 2nd Degree. 


DUI Arrest:  On 10/05/2019 officers were called to Interstate 75 southbound at the 79 mile marker in reference to an injury collision. 

Witness told the officers that one of the parties involved had thrown some beer bottles into the tree line before their arrival.  One of the drivers had a strong odor of alcohol and showed several other signs of impairment.  Three beer bottles were located in the area where the witnesses stated they were thrown. 

Officers arrested 29 year old Alex Berwanger of Lexington KY and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense. 


Shoplifting Arrest:  On 10/02/2019 officers were called to Walmart after store employees observed a shoplifter attempting to leave the store. 

The subject showed several signs of impairment and had previously been banned from the property. 

Officers arrested 50 year old Barbara Fletcher of Richmond KY and charged her with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting, Public Intoxication, and Criminal Trespassing. 


Falsely Reporting an Incident:  On 10/01/2019 officers were called to apartments on Glades Road in reference to subjects attempting to get inside. 

A female was located and told officers that she needed to get inside of the apartment because she had money inside of it.  She was told to contact the renter of the apartment to get any belongings.  She called back two more times and gave several reasons why she needed in the apartment, including the stove being left on.  She finally stated that there was someone inside the apartment who had possibly overdosed and was deceased.   No one was located inside of the apartment and the stove was not turned on. 

Officers arrested 49 year old Riva Banks of Berea KY and charged her with Falsely Reporting an Incident and Harassing Communications.
