The artist reception will be held on Thursday, September 12 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Richmond Area Arts Center. Please make plans to view the paintings and meet the artist. Light refreshments will be available, and music will be provided by Randy Westbrook.
Alvis was born in Madison County and began drawing and painting as a child. “Growing up on a farm helped me appreciate the beauty of nature,” explained Agee. Helping with the livestock, hunting, fishing, and working on Juddmonte Horse Farm brought a love of animals, and it increased his love and appreciation for the beauty of nature around him. Nature is his inspiration and passion, and he likes the control and color that can be obtained from oil paints.
Alvis Agee is a member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and the Richmond Area Arts Council. His paintings are displayed in public areas and patient rooms at Baptist Health Richmond, Mainstreet Bakery and Deli, and other downtown Richmond businesses. He was the designer, and one of the painters, of the RAAC fire hydrant on Water Street outside the Arts Center at 399 W. Water Street.
Alvis is the instructor for RAAC’s Wednesday morning Art Class. He loves to share proven techniques and see his students grow in their painting abilities. New students are welcome to join the Art Class that meets each Wednesday 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Richmond Area Arts Center. Tuition is $17 per class. Registration is not required. He will also be teaching a three-week evening art workshop on October 3, 10 and 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
