This week the Berea Police Department’s newly formed Street Crimes Unit made several drug related arrests.
In addition, police apprehended a suspect in connection with the vandalization of the skate park, and charged a woman in connection with a rent scam. Police reported the following:
Drug Arrest: On 07/31/2019, officers with the Street Crimes Unit arrested 34-year-old Zackery Paul of Frankfort KY for an outstanding arrest warrant.
Paul made threats to the arresting officer and tried to charge at him as he was being arrested. He also had a small amount of marijuana.
Paul was charged with the following: Possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia possession, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening 3rd degree.
Drug Trafficking Arrest: On 08/02/2019, officers with the Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop on Big Hill Road after observing a vehicle cross over the center line.
The driver showed several signs of impairment and stated that she had recently used methamphetamine. Suspected methamphetamine was located inside of her purse, along with $2,471 in cash.
Officers arrested 53-year-old Patricia Roberts of Berea KY and charged her with careless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence 1st offense, and trafficking controlled substance 1st degree.
Drug Trafficking Arrests: On 08/07/2019, a traffic stop was conducted by officers with the Street Crimes Unit on Glades Road for an equipment violation.
The driver had a suspended license, and several items were located in his vehicle. Approximately 9.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, three glass pipes, scales, and plastic bags were all located in the car.
A female passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a small amount of marijuana, a marijuana grinder, and two Gabapentin tablets.
Officers arrested 45-year-old Tommy Eaton of Berea KY and 26-year-old Kristin Elam (address unknown).
They were both charged with trafficking controlled substance 1st degree (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia possession. Elam was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of controlled substance 3rd degree.
Drug Arrest: On 08/07/2019, officers with the Street Crimes Unit arrested 50-year old Robert Brown of Berea KY for an outstanding arrest warrant.
He had three Gabapentin tablets in his pants pocket.
He was charged with possession of controlled substance 3rd degree.
Drug Arrest: On 08/08/2019, a traffic stop was conducted on Mount Vernon Road for a turn signal violation.
A passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding arrest warrant. The officer noticed that she appeared to be reaching inside of her shirt, and he asked her if she had anything. She had a Suboxone strip, marijuana cigarette, and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine concealed on her person.
Officers arrested 25-year old Jessica James of Orlando KY and charged her with the following: possession of controlled substance 1st degree (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia possession, possession of controlled substance 3rd degree, tampering with physical evidence.
Theft by Deception Arrest: On 08/05/2019, officers were contacted by one of the victims in the apartment rental scam that has been ongoing for the past several weeks. They stated that they located the offender on Facebook and that she had an item listed for sale. They made arrangements to purchase the item from her and agreed to meet at Walgreens in the parking lot.
Officers located her in the parking lot and she was in the same vehicle that she had driven when she collected money for the rental scam.
She was taken into custody and interviewed at the Berea Police Department.
Officers arrested 18-year-old Kaitlyn Goins of Berea KY and charged her with two counts of theft by deception under $10,000.
Goins had advertised rental property on Facebook, collected money from the victims, and then never contacted them again. She did not actually own the properties that she advertised for rent. We posted about this scam on Facebook on 07/29/2019.
This case is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
Criminal Mischief Arrest: On 08/01/2019, officers were called to the Berea Skate Park in reference to several different parts of the park being spray painted.
On 08/06/2019 officers arrested 19-year old Matthew Lewis of Berea KY and charged him with criminal mischief 1st degree.
An investigation revealed that he purchased the spray paint and participated in the crime.
This incident is still under investigation and more charges may be pending.
DUI Arrest: On 08/06/2019, a traffic stop was conducted on Chestnut Street for an equipment violation.
There was an open alcohol container inside of the vehicle, and the driver showed signs of intoxication.
Officers arrested 57-year old Gary Lamb of Berea KY and charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence 2nd offense, operating on a suspended operators license, and possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.
DUI Arrest: On 08/10/2019, officers were called to Redi Mart in reference to a motor vehicle collision. One of the parties involved had an odor of alcohol and showed several other signs of intoxication.
Officers arrested 58-year old Donald Turner of Berea KY and charged him with operating a motor vehicle under the influence 1st offense.
Alcohol Intoxication: On 08/10/2019, officers were called to Scaffold Cane Road in reference to a subject who was walking out in traffic. The subject was located and showed several signs of intoxication.
Officers arrested 28-year old Robert Gendreau (address unknown) and charged him with alcohol intoxication in a public place.
DUI Arrest: On 08/13/2019 officers were called to Paint Lick Road in reference to a motor vehicle collision. The vehicle was flipped over on it’s top, and the driver was standing near the car. The driver showed several different signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest.
Officers charged 35-year old Rodrigo Perez of Paint Lick KY with operating a motor vehicle under the influence 1stoffense and no operators license
