Amey R. Strunk, age 97, widow to the late George Strunk, passed away Sunday June 30, 2019 at Madison Manor in Richmond, KY. Mrs. Strunk was born October 18, 1921 in Jackson Co., KY to the late Robert and Sarah Robinson.
Mrs. Strunk loved to quilt, gardening, working in the yard and especially loved her family and to cook for them everything from scratch. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
Other than her husband and parents Mrs. Strunk was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Land, and her husband Rodger, one grandchild Rod Land, son-in-law Warren Davis and three sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Davis of Versailles, OH, one son, Tommy Strunk of Richmond, KY, five grandchildren Kitty Davis, Marla Vanmeter, Steve Land, Marvin Land, Stacy Land, four great grandchildren, Kennedy Zumbrink, Hanigan Vanmeter, Clay Land, Cody Land, special great grandchild Addison Conner, and three great great grandchildren, Gracie Land, Mila Land, and Charlie.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM Friday July 5, 2019 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Masters officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00AM until service time at the funeral home.
The family will serve as pallbearers.
Sherlie Edna Sparks Chitwood age 77 of Berea, passed away on July 6, 2019 at Berea Health Care. Sherlie was born on October 30, 1941 to the late Ernest and Lucille Kinnard Sparks.
She retired from Begley Drug and Rite-Aid Company, where she had worked for over 25 years. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She loved to cook, plant flowers, take pictures, and read. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Stanley Sparks.
She is survived by her two sons, Randy (Carma) Hellard and Tim (LeeAmber) Hellard; three grandchildren, Tyler, Dawson and Erica; step grandson, Branson; three brothers, Sherman (the late Judy) Sparks, Russ (Ruthann) Sparks, Patrick (Tonia) Sparks; sister-in-law, Dana Sparks; special nieces, Lindsey Johnson, Lathey Mitchell, Jennifer Price, Cindy Pratt; and several nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be 1pm, Monday, July 8, 2019 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea. Burial will follow in the Old Paint Lick Cemetery in Garrard County. Visitation will begin at 11 am Monday until time of services.
Wilma Lorene Ford age 90, wife of Ralph E. Ford, passed away July 5, 2019 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berea. Wilma was born in Laurel County to her parents, the late George and Dora Moore Wilson.
Wilma was a homemaker and member of the Crestview Holy Sanctuary where she attended church for over 50 years.
She was also preceded in death by three siblings Edna Wells, Edsel Wilson, and Doyle Wilson.
Wilma is survived by her children: Ronald (Phyllis) Ford and Doug (Geraldine) Ford all of Berea, her sister Bonnie Carter, and brother Hershel (Marsha) Wilson, her grandchildren: Kevin (Tammy) Ford, Sheila (Steve) Pingleton, David Blanton, and Dalton Taylor, several great and great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be Wednesday July 10, 2019 at 11:30 am at Crestview Holy Sanctuary with Rev. Ronnie Oplinger officiating, entombment will take place in the Madison County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-9 pm at Crestview Holy Sanctuary. Lakes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Frank Napier, Jimmy Tyree, Jim Lamb, Bill Saylor, Shane Blanton, and Stanley Blanton.
Anna Belle (Bowles) Harris, age 75, departed this life for her Heavenly home on June 30, 2019. She was born to Anderson and Lydia Bowles of Livingston, Kentucky on April 9, 1944. She had three sisters, Eva, Juanita and Mabel, one brother Charlie.
She will be greatly missed by family and many friends. If you knew her, you loved her…she was a kind, loving person. She had a heart of gold and always saw the best in everyone.
Anna Belle is survived by her sons, Rob Harris and his wife Lisa, Todd Harris and his wife Denise, grandchildren Chris and his wife McKenzie, Brittany and her husband Mike, Anna and John Esten, great grandchildren, Hayley and Kalan.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, Tommy, daughter Selina, mother and father-in-law, Mabel and Earl, her parents and siblings, who all must be rejoicing that she is home.
Special thanks to her family and friends that have visited, kept in touch, even though she was not well, it made her happy to be with you. To Todd, Anna, John Esten, Linda, Barb, Carol, Brenda, Janie, Susan, Eddie, Earl, Irene, Judy, Wayne and Faye, who were her long-term caregivers and neighbors, your love, compassion and care was greatly appreciated. Thanks to Ashton for his special prayer and family that travel and come visit often. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Schloemer, staff, Dr. Huffman, and the E.R. staff, nurses in ICU and respitory St. Joseph Berea, Matthew and Keith of Hospice and the on-call staff.

Gwendolyn Keith McChesney 90, of Richmond, widow of James Coleman McChesney, mother of Jim (Beverly), Karen Ratliff, (Dean; deceased), and Jon (Shellie) died Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
Grandchildren are Jennifer Adams (Patrick), Kimberly Rosen (Richmond), and Kara Salsman (Andrew).
Gwen was a retired Madison County teacher serving as librarian at Kirksville for many years.
She loved being a wife, mom, mom-in-law, grandmother & great grandmother (Nathaniel Adams, Gwendolyn & Rosalyn Salsman). She was a wonderful person inside and out, lived a beautiful life, and will be greatly missed!
Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday. July 9, 2019 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM Monday, July 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Private burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery.

Darrel W. Angle, 70, formerly of Richmond, passed away peacefully at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, in Lexington, on Sunday, June 30, 2019. He was born February 27, 1949, in Clintonville, West Virginia.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, reaching the rank of Sergeant.
Survivors include two sons, Brian L. Angle and Michael C. Angle of Lexington; one step-daughter, Felecia Reeves of Lexington; and two sisters, Donna Carpenter (Robert) and Frances Binckley (Jerry), both of Newark, Ohio.
A memorial service for Mr. Angle will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2019, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Interment with graveside military honors will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Richmond Cemetery.
Mrs. Marjorie Malear Chandler Long, 98, of Richmond, the widow of Sam Long, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the Berea Health Care Center. She was born in Garrard County, Kentucky on October 3, 1920 to the late Alfred and Mary Sowers Malear.
She was a homemaker and a long time member of the Big Hill Christian Church where she enjoyed being part of the Friendship Sunday School class.
Survivors include: her daughters, Joyce Kearns, and Lorna Tribble (Al); one step-daughter, Sydney Long; three grandchildren, Kim Welsh (David), Kara Tribble (Mike Bacon), and Kendall Kearns; four great-grandchildren, Ashton Hite (Travis), Hunter Welsh, Drew Welsh, and Sutton Welsh; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Weston Hite; one sister-in-law, Lucille Malear; and a host of other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Noland Chandler; three brothers, Mason, Harold and Rayford Malear; three sisters, Ethel Scott, Lula Ross and Lillian Brandenburg; and her step-son, Sammy Long.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. David Welsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM Saturday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Garrett Cecil Smith Sr. 90, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Compassionate Care Center. Mr. Smith, the son of Reuben Smith and Dorothy Moore Smith Cobb, was born in Fount, Kentucky on May 7, 1929.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He also retired from Eastern Kentucky University after many years of service. On July 20, 1951, Mr. Smith united in marriage to Catherine Burroughs Smith who survives.
Other survivors include: three sons: Garrett C. Smith, Jr. and wife Diane of Richmond; Henry Elton Smith of Berea and William Allan Smith and wife Ida of Richmond; two daughters: Patricia Ann Smith of Alexandria, NC and Karen Jean Lovin and husband Larry of Milford, OH; his brother: Charles Smith; two half-brothers: John Marshall “J.M.” Cobb and wife Norma Jean and Wade “W.B.” Cobb; two half-sisters: Elta Lee Cobb and Mattie Ruth Young and husband Johnny; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special family friends: Carrie LeMasters, Susan Anderson and Patricia Novak.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2019, at Madison County Memorial Gardens with full military rites observed. Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Denzel “Ted” Brown, 78, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Compassionate Care Center. Mr. Brown, the son of the late Carlos Brown and Leona Whicker Brandenburg, was born in Owsley County on March 6, 1941.
He was a masonry contractor who loved to work. Later in life, he enjoyed fishing. On January 30, 1988, Mr. Brown was married to Irene Collins Brown who survives.
Other survivors include: three sons: Carlo Brown and wife Tanja of Worms, Germany, Sammy Collins and wife Lisa of Gaston, SC and Dennis Collins of Waco, KY; five daughters: Regina Rodenbacker of Worms, Germany, Tammy Casey and husband Jerry of Richmond, Sylvia Brown of Greensburg, IN, Julia Brown of Columbus, OH and Leona Brown of Richmond; two brothers: Fred Brandenburg and wife Karen of Somerset and Jerry Brandenburg and wife Angie of Richmond; his sister: Joyce Rose and husband Rueben, 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was also preceded in death by his brothers: Denver Brown, Johnny Brown, Andy Brown, Bobby Brown, Darrell Brandenburg and Harold Brandenburg.

Mrs. Lana Bellamy Vaughn, 73, passed away Sunday evening, June 30, 2019, at The Terrace in Berea. Lana was born on November 3, 1945, the daughter of the late Duke and Louvena Ross Bellamy.
She attended Kirksville Junior High and was a 1963 graduate of Madison Central High School. She retired from Eastern Kentucky University, where she had served as an Administrative Assistant for the College of Education as well as to President Hanley Funderburk. While at EKU she earned two degrees and also taught business. Lana was a member of The Gilead Baptist Church, and served as church secretary and choir director. In addition she taught Children’s Sunday School and was an active member of the WMU.
Survivors include her son: Edward Freeman (Dana) of Richmond; one brother: Edward Duke Bellamy Jr., (Linda) of Oxford, Ohio; her husband: Sammy Vaughn; four grandchildren: Chase, Clark and Chloe Freeman and Brittany Bell (John); three great-grandchildren: Jake, Madelyn and Savannah Bell.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Gabbard and Ron House officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. James William “Jim” Mullins, 95 of Mt. Vernon, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at his home. He was born at Climax in Rockcastle County, KY on October 16, 1923 the son of James Nathan and Dovie Ann Morris Mullins.
He was a retired businessman and farmer, a member of First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon, and was a US Army veteran of WWII. He had been a Mason for over 65 years, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and was a member of the Oleika Temple of the Shrine. He attended Berea College Academy and was the owner of Mullins Valley Farm. He later served two terms as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 28th Judicial Circuit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Thelma Clark Mullins; a son, James Nathan Mullins II and wife Rhonda of Lexington; a daughter, Jamie Worley and husband Ed, of Lexington; a brother, Bill Mullins of Lexington; and a sister, Edna Parsons, also of Lexington. Also surviving are five grandchildren: James Nathan Mullins III and wife Diana, Preston Clark Worley and wife Langdon, Nicolas Hayes Mullins, Lauren Reed Worley, and Natalie Lynn Mullins; and three great grandchildren: Carolina Mullins, Savannah Mullins, and Charlotte Mullins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Anderson; a brother, Al Mullins; and a grandson, Jerrod Mullins.
Visitation will be Saturday July 6, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow visitation. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Michael Shane Bullock, age 46 of Brodhead, KY passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at his home. Michael was born on April 29, 1973 in Berea, KY, a son of Glenda Bullock, and the late Charles Wicker.
He was of the Baptist faith, and attended Northside Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and most importantly, loving and supporting his children.
Those left to celebrate his life are his mother: Glenda Bullock; and his children: Eric Michael-Paul Bullock, and Taylor LaBelle Bullock, both of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wicker; and his paternal grandparents: Daniel and Stella Bullock.
Services for Michael will be held on Monday July 8, 2019 at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, beginning with the visitation from 11-1pm, followed by the funeral at 1pm, with Bro. James Poynter and Bro. David Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakhill Cemetery.

Mr. Darrell Edward Doan, age 63 of Mt. Vernon, Ky. passed away Thursday July 4, 2019 in Mt. Vernon, Ky. He was born on August 2, 1955 in Berea, Ky., a son of the late James Walker Doan and Eva Hasty Doan.
He was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed playing music and singing.
Those left to celebrate his life are his brothers: Elzie Doan (Mary Opal) of Livingston, Ky; Vernon Doan (Charolett) of Calloway, Ky.; and Dallas Doan (Beverley) of Seymore, Indiana. His sisters: Tessie Allen of Honor, Michigan; Glenna Bell (James) of Monticello, Ky.; and Linda Martin of Mt. Vernon, Ky. As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Doan; sisters: Alma Hines, Alene Brown, Elsie McClure, Sadie Highlander and infant Loretta Doan.
Services for Darrell Edward Doan will be Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 12Noon-2PM at Calloway Holiness Church, will funeral services following at 2PM with Bro. Phillip Doan officiating. Burial will follow in the Charlie Mink Cemetery.

Mrs. Doris Renee Dick age 52, of Corbin and formerly of Mt.Vernon passed Wednesday July 3, 2019 at her home. She was born on August 16, 1966 in Berea the daughter of Mrs. Phyllis Owens Parrett of Brodhead.
She was a dental assistant, she enjoyed fishing, drawing, jewelry making, gardening, and was a member of the Christian faith.
Survivors are: one son; Dustin Kelley of Corbin. Two daughters; Stephanie Kelly of Carrollton, VA, and Amanda Munro of Slidell, LA. Two brothers; Scott Parrett of Mt.Vernon, and Kevin Parrett of Brodhead. One sister; Trina Wynn of Corbin. Her grandmother; Willetta Owens. Three grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by; her grandfather Clyde Owens, and by her step-father; Donald Parrett.
Memorial services for Mrs. Doris Renee Dick will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday July 9, 2019 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Luther Allen officiating. Friends may visit from 1:30PM until time of service on Tuesday.
Donna Louise Marcum age 56, of Freds Lane in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born December 4, 1962 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Denver Reynolds and Myrtle Reynolds Moore.
She was a retired Walmart employee and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
She is survived by: Her husband: Farris Glen Marcum 1 Daughter: Rebecca Marcum – Estill Co. 2 Sons: Joseph (Amber) Marcum – Estill Co. Bryant Christopher Lee Mahaney – Estill Co. 3 Brothers: Freddie Reynolds – Madison Co. Kevin Reynolds – Estill Co. Gary Wayne Reynolds – Georgia 2 Grandchildren: Hagen Joe Marcum and Brisen Cole Marcum.
She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Randall Reynolds.
