Saturday, January 19th SmokeHouse Grill and Buffet hosted Richmond Raceway’s 2018 awards banquet. At this event the Richmond Raceway staff handed out over $13,000 worth of awards and cash for driver’s achievements during the 2018 racing season.
The 2018 Sonic Super Late Model Champion was Derek Fisher, Fisher would receive a banner and gift certificate from ARBodies, a Hoosier Racing Tire Championship jacket, a Championship Crystal (pictured below), a Championship check for $1,500.00, and a Golden Ticket which is a VIP pit pass to every single event held at the Richmond Raceway in 2019. Fisher racked up ten top ten finishes ten top five finishes and seven wins in his 11 starts at the Richmond Raceway this past season. This feat would help Fisher claim his second straight title at the Beast of the East, Richmond Raceway.
The 2018 Gutter Guy Modified Champion was Jimmy Robinson, Robinson claimed a Hoosier Racing Tire Championship jacket, a Championship Crystal, a Championship check for $1,000.00, and a Golden Ticket. Robinson had 14 top ten finishes with 12 top fives and three wins in his 14 starts at Richmond. Jimmy Robinson would claim his second straight Richmond Raceway track championship in the modified bringing his career total up to 3 in that category at the historic 3/8 of a mile clay oval.
The ARBodies KDRA Super Stocks 2018 Track Champion was claimed by Logan Preston, Preston received a DIY Body from ARBodies before the banquet but during the event he was awarded an ARBodies banner, a Hoosier Racing Tire Championship jacket, a Championship Crystal, a Championship Check for $750.00, and a Golden Ticket. Preston picked up 13 top tens with 12 of those being top fives and also collecting 2 wins in his 14 starts at the Richmond Raceway. This was Logan Preston’s first track championship at Richmond in the KDRA Super Stock class.
The 2018 Baker Iron and Metal 4 Cylinder Track Champion was Tyler Hayes, Hayes collected a Hoosier Racing Tire Championship jacket, a Championship Crystal, a Championship Check for $500.00, and a Golden Ticket. Hayes picked up 13 top tens with 11 top fives and 4 wins in his 15 starts at the Beast of the East in 2018. This championship was Hayes second in a row in the 4-cylinder division making him the only driver to ever pick up two track championships in that division at Richmond.
Owner/Promoter Bill Lupinos addressed the crowd to announce that the 2019-point fund is currently at $18,000 with additional money being added from season long sales from Chew on This Jerky in the track’s concession stands and the weekly drivers point fund 50/50 raffle. Lupinos also added he is currently looking for a headline title sponsor for the 2019 point standings with the money received from that sponsor going directly to the driver point fund with a goal of at least $25,000 at season end, anyone interested in this sponsorship or any other sponsorship opportunities at the Richmond Raceway Dirt track can reach Bill Lupinos at: 917-697-4776 or [email protected].
The 2019 season at the Beast of the East will kickoff on April 6th with the 53rd Annual Season Opener Presented by Valvoline.
