Nelson Gill Jr.

Nelson Gill Jr. age 41, passed away Saturday Jan. 5, 2019 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington Ky. Nelson was born July 26, 1977 in Richmond Ky., to Marvin Nelson Gill Sr. and the late Linda Kay Montgomery Gill.

Nelson was an avid outdoors-man, hunting, fishing, four wheeling and liked working on the farm. He also loved his dog Bugsy.

Other than his father Nelson is survived by his Fiancé Jamie Johnson, by one sister Heather Montgomery Gilreath and her husband Timothy of London, Ky., two brothers, Ryan Nelson Gill, Marvin Jacob Gill both of Lancaster, Ky., Step-daughter, Kayla Shackelford of Berea, Ky., one nephew Anthony Hicks, two nieces Samantha Hicks, and Sabrina Hicks.

Other than his mother Nelson was preceded in death by Paternal Grandparents, Stanley Gill and Emma Rose, by Maternal Grandparents, Delbert and Hazel Montgomery.

Funeral services will be 1:00PM Wednesday Jan. 19, 2019 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. John Gross and Bro. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Gill Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-9PM Tuesday Jan. 8, 2019 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Anthony Hicks, Frankie Hall, Kenneth Adams, Jimmy Hall, Jason Hall, and Drew Sutton.

George Douglas Bryant

George Douglas Bryant, age 72, of Dogwood Drive, passed away, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. George was born in Berea, Kentucky to the late George Theodore and Alma Christine McKeehan Bryant.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, was a retired employee of Delta Natural Gas, and a longtime member of Moore’s Grocery Lunch Bunch.

George is survived by his wife Geneva “Genny” Sharp Bryant, two daughters, Genene Rogers and Georganna (Doug) Kirby; one sister, Dinahbet Hall; and three grandchildren, Dalton Rogers, Kelsey Rogers, and Levi Kirby.

Funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Gerald Powell and Rev. Stephen Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-9 pm at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Fain, Cody King, Gary Stout, Darrell “Corky” McKeehan, Sam Fothergill, Ricky Terrill and Monty Brock. Honorary bearers will be Forrester VanWinkle, J.D. VanWinkle, Larry Harrison, Harry Isaacs, Jeff Baugh, Vernon and Faye Cummins, Willie Bryant, and Wanda and Joe Sampson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Lois Ann Haddix, age 83, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at her home in Berea. Lois was born in Berea, Kentucky to the late John A. McCollum, Sr. and Rossie Cahutta Bates McCollum.

She was a retired teacher for the Madison County Board of Education for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Vergil Haddix; one son, John Roberts “Rob” Haddix; brother, John (Helen Lear) McCollum, Jr.; four sisters, Ruth Edna McCollum, Norma McCollum (Hubert) Robinson, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” McCollum, and Dorothy McCollum (John) Caldwell.

She is survived by her daughter Lora Elizabeth Haddix; one brother Lowell Thomas (Mary Ann) McCollum; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be 2pm, Friday, January 11, 2019 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm until 2pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John K. Caldwell, Bev Ingram, Dick McCollum, Steve McCollum, Barry Haddix, Steven Haddix, Vonda Bratcher, Eula Combs, Christine Harris, and Amanda Powell.

Kenneth Ray McFarland

Kenneth Ray McFarland of Richmond, passed away Jan. 5, 2019. Kenneth was born in Richmond Kentucky to the late Carl McFarland and Phyllis Rigglesberger.

He had been an autobody repairman for many years.

He was also preceded in death by his grandmother Grace Stocker, and his mother-in-law Christine Burns.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter Savannah (Eric) Combs of Berea, her mother Marlene Semones, a niece who was like a daughter Paige Richardson, his grandchildren: Lilly and Adalyn King, and Elaina Combs, his sisters: Diane Hilleary, Deborah Watson, Gina McFarland, and Sabrina McFarland, nephews Phillip and Dustin Watson, Lee Green and nieces Melissa and Casi Velarde, Rebecca Hilleary, Cassie Bradley, Christie Green, and Amanda Saylor, and several other nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2019 from 5-6:30 pm with a memorial service at 6:30 pm at Lakes Funeral Home Berea.

Janie Pearson

Janie Marie Johnson Pearson, 80, of Berea, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital & Respiratory Care Center in Mt. Vernon after a short illness. Born May 24, 1938 in Madison County, daughter of the late Ralph “ET” and Alberta Carrier Johnson.

She was a retired line worker at Parker-Seal for forty years. Working six days a week for several years, she would have kept working had the plant not closed. A proud member of the Berea Church of God, when God made Janie, He made a Saint! Always caring, loving, smiling and willing to help out any way she could. Serving God all her life and loving her children were special joys every day. She also enjoyed reading the Bible and sitting on the front porch watching the cars go by. Janie loved to cook when able, when not she told her daughters what to get and cook which included her favorites: cornbread, fried potatoes, vegetable soup, taco salads, cold cut subs and strawberry milkshakes. She loved watching the Food Network and simple dining at Red Lobster, Steak & Shake and Taco Tico.

She fought the good fight and was ready to go home to heaven.

Survivors include 3 children, Michael (Brenda) Mullins, Jenia (Paul) Minor, Pamela Kay Mullins Tackett; siblings, Earl J. Johnson (Mary Sue), Erma Lillian Caldwell (Kenneth), Mary Johnson, Acy Johnson (Carol), Macie Johnson Clark and Brenda Johnson Boyd; four grandchildren; Michael, Christopher, Derrick, and Justin; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, Church Family and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Pearson; her baby daughter, Sharon Ann Pearson; brother Ralph Johnson, Jr.

Funeral Service 11:00am, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Berea Church of God with Pastor Stephen Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00pm Friday at the Church. Reppert Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Pallbearers are Michael Mullins, Paul Minor, Duane Crabtree, Michael Soper, Bruce Alcorn, Wesley Pingleton, Justin Tackett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Alcorn, Bob Hubers, David Matheny.

Christine Cresap

Christine Pearson Cresap, 85, of Berea, died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at The Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a Red Lick native born April 15, 1934, daughter of the late Collie and Lillie Isaacs Pearson.

She was a homemaker, and resident of Madison County most of her life.

Survivors include 2 sons, Jerry Lee White, Wilbert Earl White; 1 brother, Dewey Pearson; as well as relatives, friends and nursing home family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Al Dean Cresap and 1 son, Larry Dean White.

Graveside Service 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Madison County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Kenneth Bishop officiating. Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Mary Hocker died on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Baptist Healh-Richmond Hospital.

Marie S. Masters

Marie S. Masters, 88, formerly of Old Richmond Road in Lexington, KY, the widow of Ralph Masters, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Terrace in Richmond, KY. Marie was born August 7, 1930 to the late Walter and Myrtle Williams Smith in Richmond, Ky.

She was a graduate of Kingston High School, she was a farmer and served on the Richmond Road Homeowners Association and the Fayette County Board of Agriculture. She loved her University of Kentucky Wildcats and was a member of the Walnut Hill Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Eliza S. Anderson and Ernestine West both of Berea, KY as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be her great great nephews, Dalton Gross, Brydon Gill, Dustin Gross, Wyatt Hon, Cole Speaks, Lawson Hon and Zaviour Gardner. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Early and Loraine Becker and two brothers, Oline “Smitty” Smith and Preston Smith.

Jack Daniels-Hisle

Jack Daniels-Hisle, infant son of Jackie Hisle and James Friend, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Baptist Health-Richmond.

Other survivors include grandparents, Sherry Hisle (the late Jack Hisle), James and Tammy Friend, and great-grandparents, Danny and Sharon Ratliff.

Graveside services were held Wednesday morning, January 9, 2019 at the Rogers Cemetery in Jackson County. Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home is in charge.

Billy Gene Dargavell

Billy Gene Dargavell, 76, of Richmond, passed away early Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at his home. He was born August 8, 1942, in Richmond to Newland and Stanley Chamberlain Dargavell, both of whom preceded him in death.

Billy was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda K. Dargavell, three brothers; Clarence, Randall and Tom Dargavell and a sister, Gertrude Gross.

He was a retired employee of Square “D” Company of Lexington.

Survivors include his son Randall Allen Dargavell, a brothers, Charles Dargavell and a sister, Jane Ashcraft.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Carlene Rae Hamilton

Carlene Rae Hamilton, 55, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at her home. She was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, on September 23, 1963, to Patricia Lee Willis Carter and the late Evert Carl Carter.

Carlene was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky university, a dietitian, and a member of Grace Point Church of Richmond. She enjoyed tennis but she enjoyed her family above all.

Other than her mother, Patricia, survivors include her loving husband, Michael Hamilton of Richmond; two daughters, Emily Hamilton of Atlanta, GA and Elise Hamilton of Richmond; and three sisters, Tracy Carter and Julie Brown, both of Lexington, KY and Shara Herfel of Ft. Thomas, KY.

Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Pastor Tony Christian will officiate the service.

Mrs. Edith Taylor Nolan, 90, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Edith was born at home on July 6, 1928 in the Bald Rock community of London Kentucky to the late Travis and Bertha Anders Taylor.

She enjoyed playing bingo, adding to her doll collection, but most of all she loved to spend time in her garden and flowers, and looked forward to being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Edith attended the Union City Baptist Church with her family for many years and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: her children, Walter Nolan (Linda), Elaine Blair (Jerry), Betty Bonnett (John), Bertha Faye Talley (Jim), and Martha Spears (James); her special friend for over 30 years, James McGarr; one brother, Ernest Taylor; two sisters, Betty Dykes, and Ruby Sparks; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by: her husband, Delbert Nolan and one son, Delbert Douglas Nolan.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Ray Steven Burdine, 60, passed away Saturday morning, January 12, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Born on October 12 1958, in Madison County, he was the son of the late John and Dora Etta Agee Burdine.

He was an auto body repairman and had owned Steve’s Body Shop. He attended The Richmond House of Prayer.

Survivors include one son: Steven Burdine (Katie); one daughter: Amanda Carroll Parker; three sisters: Patricia Hoover, Kathy Burdine and Stephanie Sanders (Johnny); four grandchildren: Austin, Aliyah, Abby and Andra as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private committal service will be held in the Richmond Cemetery. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Dean Floyd, 82, of Nina Ridge, Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at his home. He was raised in the Poosey Ridge Section of Madison Co., Ky. the son of the late Weldon and Emma Lee Davis Floyd.

Roy was a U. S. Army Veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM, and the Gilberts Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of IBM and after retirement enjoyed driving his dump truck hauling gravel for his neighbors and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Linda Denny Floyd; a son, Roger Dale Spires (Crystal), of Cartersville; three grandchildren, Casey Spires, Cody Spires and Justin Spires; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roland Floyd and Bobby Joe Floyd.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 AM Friday at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Denny, Joe Denny, Roger Spires, Casey Spires, Cody Spires and Justin Spires.

Mrs. Rhonda Berry Sams, 61 of Mt. Vernon, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. She was born in Berea, KY on May 12, 1957 the daughter of Thomas Gravely and Wanda Hasty Berry.

She had been a secretary for the Madison County Vocational Education system and was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by a brother Michael Berry and Elaine Howard of Brodhead; and two sisters, Judy Duerson of Nashville, TN, and Linda Berry of Dallas, GA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Sams.

Visitation will be Saturday January 12, 2019 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral will take place following the visitation at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Mullins, 72 of Climax, passed from this life on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born in Rockcastle County, KY on May 18, 1946 the daughter of Edward and Shelby Sowder Pittman.

She was a homemaker and a member of Climax Christian Church. She was an avid UK Basketball fan and had enjoyed bowling for over 50 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Sam Mullins; a son, Michael Joe McFerron of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Jamie Saylor and husband Chris, and Philip McFerron; a great grandson, Jase Samuel Lear; a brother, Jack Pittman of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Carrie Pyle and husband Geno of Paris; and two step-brothers, Elmer Decker, Jr. and Vernon Decker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clinton, Lloyd, Bennie, and Carl Pittman; a sister, Virgie Pittman; her step-father, Elmer Decker; and a step-brother, Eddie Decker.

Visitation will be Thursday January 10, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral will take place following the visitation at 2:00 PM. Burila will take place at the Climax Cemetery.

Mr. Larry Eugene Cook, age 67, of Brodhead, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Larry was born a son of the late Henry Harrison Cook, and the late Laura “Demi” Allen Cook, on September 13, 1951, in Mount Vernon, KY.

He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed his family and friends, playing music and singing, being a DJ for Blue at Heart Sound Company, cars and working on vehicles.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife: Sylvia Sue Hensley Cook, of Mount Vernon, KY; his children: Angelia Cook of Berea, KY, Jamie Alcorn (Joseph) of Mount Vernon, and Jody Hayes (Melvin) of Mount Vernon, KY; his grandchildren: Lyndsey Cook, Madison Hayes, Cole Powell, and Esme Alcorn; two brothers: Stanley Cook (Tonya) of Livingston, KY, and Dale Cook (Tobie) of Waco, KY; one sister: Edna Turner of Lebanon, VA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry Harrison Cook, and Laura “Demi” Allen Cook.

Visitation for Mr. Larry Cook will be Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 6pm-9pm. Funeral will be Friday, January 11, 2019, at 1pm; both will be held at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, with Bro. Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery.

Stevie Ray Plowman, age 53, of Old Landings Road in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019. He was born June 14, 1965 in Estill County and was the son of Helen Neal Plowman and the late John Plowman.

He was a logger and lived in Estill County all his life.

Detria Ann McDaniel age 70, of Annville, Kentucky, passed away Friday January 11, 2019 In Jackson County due to Automobile Accident.

She was the Mother of Mark McDaniel and wife Melissa of Sand Gap, Kentucky, Paul McDaniel and wife Beverly of Berea, Kentucky, the sister of Ron Madden and wife Kathy of Gray Hawk, Kentucky, the Grandmother of Brittany McDaniel of Tyner, Kentucky, Holly McDaniel of Berea, Kentucky and Edison Witt Of Berea, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Marvin Clarence McDaniel, by her son, Bobby Gene Gray, by her parents Roy E. Madden and Madolyn Faye Pennington Madden.

Funeral services for Detria Ann McDaniel will be conducted Wednesday January 16,2019 at 2:00 p.m. in London Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll DeForest and Landon McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Sandlin Cemetery at Gray Hawk, Kentucky. The family of Detria Ann McDaniel will receive friends at the Funeral Home after 12:00 Noon on Wednesday January 16, 2019.
