Robert Gene Rhodus
Robert Gene Rhodus, age 75, husband of Marilynn Kay Eden Rhodus, passed away December 31, 2018 at Saint Joseph Berea Hospital. Robert was born February 27, 1943 in Winchester, Ky., to the late Carl and Lillie Mae Rogers Rhodus.
Robert was a metal heat treater with National Metal Processing and retired after 33yrs of service. He was a Poultry and Rabbit Judge for 16yrs with the Ky State Fairs in Estill and Madison Counties. He loved his grandchildren dearly. Robert attended Middletown Baptist Church.
Other than his wife Robert was survived by his children, Kathleen “Peach” Newby and her husband Dwayne of Paint Lick, Ky., Bobbie Joyce McCracken of Berea, Ky., Elitha Faye Caudill and her husband Richard of Berea, Ky., grandchildren, Joseph Mitchell Smith and his wife Deanna, Kathy Jo Richardson, Derrick Robert Rhodus, Jacob Carl Caudill, Cheyenne Hope Caudill, Great grandchildren Tyler, Tristan, Lomae, Wyatt, Colby, Lily Grayce, and sister Lois Faye Evans of Berea, Ky.
Other than his parents Robert was preceded in death by a grandchild Savannah Faith Caudill.
Funeral services will be 1:00PM Friday at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. William Dooley and Rev. Darrel Eden officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be, Dwayne Newby, Derrick Rhodus, Richard Caudill, Jacob Caudill, David Eden, Jimmy Darrell Harris, Ray Calico, Wayne Seals, and Roger Dale Seals. Honorary Pallbearers are, Eden Kay Lewis, Kathy Jo Richardson, Cheyenne Hope Caudill, Tristan Richardson, Wyatt Richardson, and Lily Grayce Rhodus.
Deloris Gail McCollum
It is with great sadness that the family of Deloris Gail McCollum announces her passing on January 2, 2019, at the age of 67 years.
Gail will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Dianne McCollum, her friends and loving family.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Mary Abney McCollum.
Graveside services will be held on 11:00 am, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Scaffold Cane Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, KY with Rev. Rick Reynolds officiating.
Arrangements are by Lakes Funeral Home in Berea, Kentucky. Following the service there will be a time for fellowship at the Roundstone Baptist Church. Everyone is invited.
Jerry Wayne Hatton
Jerry Wayne Hatton, age 67 of Berea, formerly of Winchester, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Jerry was born in Clark County to the late Jack Dillard and Ethel Jackson Hatton.
He was retired from Bluegrass Bandag in Winchester. He was a member of Trinity Church of God and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Kathy Darlene Hatton and several siblings.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry Wayne Hatton, Jr. and his wife Amy, Eric Jerome Hatton; two grandchildren, Brandon Hatton and Braxton (Danyelle) Hatton; and two great grandchildren, AnnaRay Lynn Hatton and Cheyenne Kai Hatton.
Services will be held privately. Donations may be made to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
Billy Drew Abney
Billy Drew Abney, age 90, passed away at his son’s home in Paris. Billy was born in Jackson County to the late Leonard D. and Ethel Drew Abney. He retired from NCR Corp in Ohio and loved to farm after his retirement.
He was a huge Cincinnati Red enthusiast as well as UK basketball.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Virgie Wilson, Charlie Abney, Bobby Abney, Fannie Parker, and Frank Abney.
He is survived by his son, Randy (Robin) Alexander; his grandson, Brandon (Kristal) Alexander; two special nephews, Glenn Abney, Joe Abney; and a special caregiver, Bo Kelley.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will Thursday from 10am-2pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Abney, Joe Abney, Brandon Alexander, Bo Kelley, James Galloway, and Frank Madden.

Daphne Ponder, 86, of Richmond, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at her home. She was born on March 14, 1932 to Harry B. and Mary Stewart Howell both of whom preceded her in death.
Daphne was the widow of Herbert Hoover Ponder. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Angle of Knoxville, TN and Diane Miller (Paul) of Winchester, KY; two sons, Donovan Ponder (Joyce Taylor) and Dana Ponder, both of Richmond; one brother, Bryson Howell (Loretta) of Richmond; four grandchildren, Brian Angle, Craig Angle, Josh Miller, and Chase Ponder; former son-in-law, Darrel Angle; sister-in-law, Tommie Whittaker; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister Doris Trammell, two brothers, Atlas and Max Howell, and a sister-in-law Kathleen Howell.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 7, 2019, at the Richmond Cemetery.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Elizabeth Ann Smyth
Elizabeth Ann Smyth, 78, the widow of Hershell Dean Smyth, of Richmond, passed away early Thursday, January 3, 2019 at her home. She was born in Madison County on September 25, 1940, to Raymond and Ethel (McHone) Settle, both of whom preceded her in death.
Elizabeth was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hershell, she was preceded in death by one son, Mike Smyth, one brother, Howard Settle, and one half-sister, Lucille Barrett.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Wilson (Jeff) of Irvine, LaVinda Isaacs (Chris) of Jackson County, and Connie Lainhart (David) of Berea; two sons, Gerald Smyth (Sondra) of Kirksville, and Timothy Smyth (Tammy) of Bardstown; three sisters, Katherine King, Elsie Gross, and Nancy Landsaw; three brothers, Jimmy Settle, Ronnie Settle, and Paul Settle; one half-brother, Donald Burnell; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service for Elizabeth will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Greg King officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Settle, Steve King, Jeff King, Gerald Smyth, Timothy Smyth, and Ronnie Gross.
Mary Jane Isaacs
Mrs. Mary Jane Isaacs age 75, of Mt.Vernon passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at her home. She was born on March 29, 1943 in Rockcastle County, Ky. the daughter of the late Dewey and Virgie Dees Thomas.
She was a retired employee of the Christian Appalachian Project, enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, camping, spending time with her grandchildren, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors are: her husband of 58 years; Willie Gene Isaacs of Mt.Vernon. Two sons; Mark Isaacs and (Trish) of Mt.Vernon, and Matthew Isaacs and (Christi) of Richmond. Two daughters; Leshia Bell of Mt.Vernon, and Pam Mitchell and (Thomas) of Waynesburg. Two brothers; Mike Thomas and (Janice), and J.C. Thomas and (Margie). Six sisters; Louise Davis, Pat Palland and (Harry), Phyllis Hendricks, Barbara Fischer and (John), Cathy Barnes, and Margie Norris and (James). Ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by: two brothers; Clayton, and Jimmy Thomas, and by one sister; Ruth Tankersly.
Visitation is Thursday January 3, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Cox Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow the visitation. Committal will be at the Cresthaven Cemetery.
Arthur Gene Ballard
Arthur Gene Ballard, age 77, of South Winn Avenue in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Baptist Health Richmond following a short illness. He was born September 29, 1941 in Estill County and was the son of Vicie Smyth Alcorn and the late Lonnie Ballard.
He was a retired locomotive engineer with CSX Railroad and a member of the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene. He was a past President of the Irvine-Ravenna Kiwanis Club and was a loyal supporter of Engineer Athletics.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Karen Muncie Ballard.
Survivors in addition to his mother include: 2 Sons: Arthur David (Shonna) Ballard – Estill Co. Randall Ballard – Estill Co.3 Grandchildren: Whitey (Cory) O’Keefe, Machaela Ballard, Mariah (Tyler) Douglas
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 4, 1 PM at the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene by Rev. John Anderson and Rev. Warren Toler. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home and after 11 AM Friday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.
