The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint on Thursday, January 3, 2019 around 7:30 a.m. of shots fired on Mason Lake Road.
The initial investigation alleges Steven Gerlaugh, 69 years old of Berea and Nanci Gerlaugh, 47 years old also of Berea, used force in stealing the victim’s purse. During the altercation, Steven Gerlaugh discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim. Deputy Donovan Nolan located the suspects on Mason Lake Road and they were taken into custody without incident. An eight year old child was located with the suspects and released to the Department of Community Based Services.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, Steven Gerlaugh was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Nanci Gerlaugh was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. The Gerlaugh’s were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Kentucky State Police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Community Based Services.
