Homer Baker, 83, of Berea, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 Peacefully at home with his family. He was born in Clay County, Kentucky on August 28, 1935, to Easter and Albert Baker, both of whom preceded him in death.
Homer graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, KY. He attended Eastern Kentucky University, and served 4 years in US Navy. He was a trooper with Kentucky State Police for 10 years and was President of Baker’s Siding Inc. for 35 years and was also a CCDW instructor for 21 years.
Mr. Baker was a lifetime member of Berea Masonic Lodge 617 F. & A.M., Richmond Chapter No. 16, Richmond Commandery No 19, and Richmond Council No 71. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Homer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Baker, three sons, Larry (Joanie) Baker, Michael Baker and Patrick Goodwin, five grandchildren, Erin Baker, Logan Baker, Megan Baker, Christopher Baker, and Kyndon Goodwin. One brother Ray Baker, one sister, Jean (Norman) Carlile. He was preceded in death by one brother Ova Baker and, six sisters, Zelma Reidling, Elva Greer, Thelma Sue Hibbs, Barbara Baxter, and Hettie Baker.
His greatest pleasures beside his family were camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Davis and Powell Funeral Home with Masonic Rites at 7 pm. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday at Bige Hoskins Cemetery in Clay County, KY with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating.
Pallbearers will be, Erin Baker, Logan Baker, Megan Baker, Christopher Baker, Kyndon Goodwin, and Herman Baker. Honorary Pallbearers are, Johnny Jones, Darrell Harrison, Shell Benedict, and Charles Lee.
