Leader McConnell Meets with EPA Nominee Andrew Wheeler

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement after meeting with the president’s nominee for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Andrew Wheeler:

“I am very pleased with the president’s nomination of Andrew Wheeler for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator. Having served as both Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator at the EPA, Mr. Wheeler is eminently qualified to take over as the agency’s Administrator. I have been appreciative of his leadership thus far at EPA, particularly the deregulatory efforts that recognize that a strong economy and preserving our environment are not mutually exclusive.

“We discussed the administration’s efforts to provide certainty and predictability to the Waters of the U.S. issue that has confused and hampered farmers, home builders, other landowners and businesses in Kentucky and throughout the country. Mr. Wheeler and I also discussed the administration’s efforts to replace President Obama’s so-called ‘Clean Power Plan’ that was designed to make electricity prices skyrocket, put our coal miners out of business, and drive domestic jobs out of this country. Andrew Wheeler is an impressive, experienced nominee and I look forward to supporting his nomination.”
