Berea Police Report Jan. 3, 2019


Alcohol Intoxication: On 12/31/2018 officers were called to the area of St. Joseph Berea in reference to an intoxicated subject who had left on foot. The subject was eventually located on Jefferson Street and showed several signs of intoxication.

Officers arrested 43 year old Taneha Whiteaker of McKee KY and charged her with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place.


Receiving Stolen Property: On 12/30/2018 officers were called to the Hometown Inn in reference to a stolen cell phone. The caller stated that his cell phone had been stolen from his vehicle, and that he was able to track the phone to the hotel.

Officers made contact with 24 year old Jefferey Tarter of Berea KY inside of the room. The phone was located, and it was confirmed that it belonged to the caller. Tarter was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property U/$10,000.


Wanton Endangerment: On 12/29/2018 officers were called to Walmart in reference to a gunshot. The subject who fired the shot was located and detained. An investigation revealed that he fired the shot to break up a fight that his juvenile son was involved in. The shot was fired up in the air where there were several people around.

Officers arrested 37 year old William Hayes of Berea KY and charged him with the following:

-Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
-Disorderly Conduct
-Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon


Drug Arrest: On 12/27/2018 a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 956 for a minor equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle had an active arrest warrant and was placed under arrest. A small bag of Marijuana and rolling papers were located in his jacket pocket.

Officers arrested 21 year old Justin Mason of Richmond KY and charged him with Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia Possession.


Drug Arrest: On 12/27/2018 officers went to an address on Phillips Street to serve an arrest warrant. They were able to see the subject inside of the home through a window and went inside and made contact. A small plastic bag containing suspected Heroin was located in his pants pocket.

Officers arrested 31 year old Michael Whitt of Berea KY and charged him with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree.


Shoplifting Arrest: On 12/26/2018 store employees at Family Dollar observed a female attempt to leave with several items.

Officers arrested 48 year old Patricia Mays of Berea KY and charged her with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting.


Counterfeit Money: On 12/27/2018 officers were called to the Copper Mountain Candle Company in reference to a counterfeit $100 bill that been passed.

Burglary: On 12/25/2018 a resident in the 200 block of Adams Street reported that his home was entered, and items were taken. Estimated Loss: $200.00.
