Come and experience Native American culture and customs at the 2018 Richmond Powwow on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, September 29 – 30.
The event will again be held at Richmond Battlefield Park, located at 1546 Battlefield Memorial Highway (US 421) south of Richmond.
This year’s special guests will be Larry Sellers, who portrayed “Cloud Dancing” on the popular television series Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, and award winning performer Arvil Bird.
Gates open at 10 AM each day, with grand entries at 12 noon both days and 6 PM on Saturday evening. Closing ceremonies will be conducted at 4:30 PM Sunday.
Powwows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, renewing old friendships and making new ones. It is a time honored method to renew Native American culture and to preserve the rich heritage of the American Indian. Visitors can experience Native American crafts, singing, dancing, folklore as well as learn about their way of life by various interactive presentations. Guests are encouraged to participate in the plentiful rituals and traditions occurring throughout each day.
The Richmond Powwow began in 1994, and has called Richmond Battlefield Park home since 2008. Hosted by the Richmond Powwow Association, Inc. it has become one of the most attended Powwows in a several state area.
General Admission for the event is $5.00 per person, $2.00 for children under 12. Maximum fees per each family is $15.00.
