22nd Annual Spoonbread Festival Offers 3 Days of Affordable Family Fun

BEREA, Ky. – Mark your calendars for three days of fun at the Spoonbread Festival this weekend, September 21-23. The Spoonbread Festival is proud to offer free parking, free admission, free inflatables for children and several other free family activities.

Presenting sponsors for the 2018 Spoonbread Festival are: Berea Chamber of Commerce, Berea Tourism Commission, City of Berea, Kentucky One Health Saint Joseph Berea, Peoples Bank, The Berea Citizen and the Richmond Register.

The Spoonbread Festival began in 1997 and has grown to attract visitors from across the Commonwealth as well as dozens of states. With 260+ vendors covering approximately 315 booth spaces and a packed schedule of events, the festival offers something for everyone.

The festival will kick off with a cornhole tournament and hot air balloon glow on the Berea Community School lawn, Friday, September 21. Bring the family and your lawn chairs to watch the evening sky light up as the hot air balloons glow and live music is provided by The Jeff Richey Experience. Enjoy a picnic on the lawn with food trucks. Saturday morning, meet back on the Berea Community School lawn for free tethered balloon rides (weather permitting).

Under the entertainment tent at Memorial Park, you’ll find country up-and-comer Walker Montgomery, Friday night along with a variety of other acts. Street entertainment will feature local groups performing throughout the weekend.

The Spoonbread Festival is pleased to welcome back a crowd favorite, grammy-nominated The Wanna Beatles, on Saturday, September 22. One of the most talked-about acts of the festival’s entertainment history, visitors are guaranteed an exciting night that will bring you to your feet.

There will be something for every person in the family – other festival events include: antique tractor show; 5-K run / 1-mile fun run/walk; motorcycle show and scenic ride; parade; dog show; car show; talent show and the exciting tradition of the spoonbread eating contest.

Spoonbread will be sold throughout the weekend under the Spoonbread Tent located next to the large Entertainment Tent. Spoonbread will also be sold at the Hot Air Balloon Glow on Friday evening.

“Spoonbread” is a soufflé-like cornbread dish native to the area. The local dish is traditionally served to guests at Historic Boone Tavern restaurant.
