Charles William Clontz

Charles William Clontz, age 81, passed away on July 4, 2018 at his home in Berea, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 19, 1937, in Harlan, Kentucky to the late Bill and Carma (Tyree) Clontz.

He was a retired local 1650 Union Carpenter and a faithful churchgoer to Great Commission Church, New Hope, Calloway, and Crestview.

He married his wife of almost 63 years, Yvonne June (Lovell) Clontz on November 24, 1956. They had six children, Charlotte (Gordon) Eads, Jaqueline (Randy) Cress, Sherry (Greg) Hagan, Charles (Debbie) Clontz, Teresa (Kent) Parsons, Phillip (Glynda) Clontz; 12 grandchildren, Britt (Kayla) Eads, Achee (Amy) Eads, Heather (Billy) Gadd, Joshua (Monica) Cress, Bridget (Will) Rodgers, Michael (Kristin) Johnsen, Tyler Hagan, Aaron Clontz, Erica (Zach) Sigmon, James Parsons, Phil (Katie) Clontz, and Jordan (Tosha) Clontz; 17 great grandchildren, Brittany Eads, Britton Eads, Brayden Eads, Grayson Eads, Kobe Eads, Nathan Eads, McKenzie Eads, Hailee Gadd, Andrew Gadd, Landon Rodgers, Lilly Rodgers, Ella Sigmon, Knox Sigmon, Levi Clontz, Lexi Clontz, Aubrey Clontz, Lincoln Clontz, and two more on the way, Heidi June Sigmon and Luke Clontz.

He had six siblings, Trenton Wayne Clontz, the late Jack (Karen) Clontz, Sue (the late Earl) Renzenbrink, Mildred McKinney, John (Bev) Clontz, and the late Leamiel Bear (Donna) Pittman, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Monday, July 9, 2018 at Crestview Holiness Church in Berea, Kentucky with Bro. Achee Eads officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-9 pm at the church.

Pallbearers will be Landon Rodgers, Michael Johnsen, Tyler Hagan, James Parsons, Joshua Cress, Aaron Clontz, Phil Clontz, Jordan Clontz, Achee Eads, Britt Eads, Ricky Clontz, and Jackie Clontz. Joe Sidney “Jody” Eversole, age 72, husband of 48 years to Shirley Ann VanWinkle Eversol,e, died Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. Mr. Eversole was born on February 14, 1946, to the late Joe and Sallie Powell Eversole.

He was a 35-year employee of Dresser Industries and a 12-year employee of KY Steel. Mr. Eversole was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He was of the Holiness faith and loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harmon, and John D. Eversole, two sisters also preceded him, Mellie Mae Eversole and Bertha Hurst.

Mr. Eversole is survived by his wife, Shirley, his three sons, Larry and his wife Elizabeth Eversole, Joe Eversole, Jr., and Jerry Eversole all of Berea, KY. Five grandchildren, Kayla and her husband Aaron Anderson, Courtney and her husband Josh Ray, Elizabeth Eversole, Brooke Eversole, and Aiden Eversole. Two great grandchildren, Carter Ray and Ella Marie Ray. Three brothers, Harold Eversole of Florida, Robert and his wife JoAnn Eversole of Berea, KY, and Walker and his wife Carol of Richmond, KY., four sisters, Gertrude Hurst of Nicholasville, KY., Dorothy, and her husband Bob Northern, Bonnie VanWinkle, and Kay and her husband Mickey Damrell all of Berea, KY. A host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 9th, 2018 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Gray and Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Cartersville Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-9 PM at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be, Larry VanWinkle, Scott VanWinkle, David Eversole, Steve Northern, Matthew Damrell, and Jeff Cope. Honorary Pallbearers are, Earl Alexander, Bill Hurst, Kenny Helton, Darrell Sloan, and Donny Sowder.

Mary F. Bowman Abrams, age 74 of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Mary was born in Jackson County, Kentucky to the late Arnold and Esther Lamb Bowman.

She was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church and retired Central Baptist Hospital as a housekeeping supervisor.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Leonard Abrams, two brothers, Jesse Bowman and Vernon Bowman.

She is survived by her son, Doug (Karen) Abrams, and daughter, Deborah (Greg) Mueller; two brothers Ronald (Sheila) Bowman and Michael (Wilhelmina) Bowman; four sisters, Helen Davidson, Carolyn Clark, Arlene (Frankie) Anderkin, and Virginia (Kenneth) Carroll; five grandchildren, Eric (Erin) Mueller, Beth Mueller, David Mueller, Haley Abrams, and Sydney Abrams; one great grandson Luke Mueller; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Tester and Mary Abrams, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Pastor Doug Henry officiating. Burial will follow in the Hayes, Abrams, and Brumagen Cemetery in Jackson County. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Linda Hallie Alcorn age 67, wife of Jack Alcorn, died Monday July 2, 2018 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Linda was born in Madison County to the late Alfred and Myrna Pitts Johnson, and she was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Johnson.

Linda was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church and was retired from Dresser Industries, upon retirement from Dresser Linda took classes to become a nurse and was still working as an LPN at Berea Health Care.

Linda is survived by her husband Jack Alcorn, her son Mark (Jocie) Alcorn, and her grandchildren: Tyler Shane Alcorn, and Jacob Michael Alcorn, her special friend Christine Pelfrey, her uncle Harold Johnson, her three cousins Kay (Eddie) Wilmont, Lisa (Tony) Wehrle, and Judy (David) Pingleton, and her sisters-in-law Linda (Danny) Banks, and Patty Alcorn and her beloved dog Rosie.

Funeral services will be Friday July 6, 2018 at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea, burial will be in the Hellard Ridge Cemetery in Jackson County. Visitation will be Thursday July 5, 2018 from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.

Vickie Poynter age 60, passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 at her home in Rockcastle County. Vickie was the daughter of the late Cecil and Freida McCracken Poynter.

Vickie had worked at ACS and Nacco in Berea but she quit work to care for her parents, and she became a woodworker and started Boone Gap Farms where she made and sold her own household goods and wood items.

Vickie was also preceded in death by her brother Scott Anthony Poynter in 2015.

Vickie is survived by her son Michael Poynter, her granddaughter Mikahlyn Poynter, her brothers: Tracy Poynter and Larry Poynter, her sister Terri Poynter and her nephews Bret Poynter and Eric Poynter and grandnephew Sebastian Poynter.

Funeral services will be Thursday July 5, 2018 at 12 noon at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Jim Murriner officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 am until 12 noon at the Funeral Home.

Betsy Ann Shackelford, 62, daughter of the late Luther and Thelma Laakman Shackelford died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond,Kentucky. She was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Betsy is survived by 5 siblings, Edith Watson, Nancy Justice, Linda Barnes, Michael Shackelford and Fred Shackelford.

Della Faye Powell, 82, of Berea died Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a Jackson County native born October 20, 1936, daughter of the late Ernest and Agnes Stewart McGuire.

She was a homemaker, member of Bethel Baptist Church, and had been a resident of the Berea area all her life. Faye liked flowers, cooking, shopping, especially yard sales, and loved to babysit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include 3 children, Wayne Powell, Anna Louvonne Gamboe, Ronald Powell; 3 grandchildren, Brandy Long, Michelle Tellman (Nathan), Tiffany England (Jacob); 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Douglas McGuire, Tony McGuire; and ex-daughter-in-law, Lea Powell.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Powell; and 4 siblings, Leonard, Dallas, Stanley, Evelyn.

Funeral Service 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 pm Tuesday.

Robert Willis Jr

Robert Willis Jr. 87, of Berea, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond. He was a born September 16, 1930, in Estill County, to Robert and Sarah (Carpenter) Willis, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby (Anglin) Willis.

Robert was a retired maintenance employee of Eastern Kentucky University, a farmer and a member of Bobtown Holiness Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Harrison and Norma Gadd (Bobby) of Berea; one brother, James Willis of Berea; three grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Christina Potter and Harold Robert “Robbie” Jones; three great grandchildren, Surena Miller, Racheal Potter, and Cameron Potter, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Darla Potter, four sisters, Donia Lainhart, Lilla May Logston, Mayfra Lainhart, Laura Ann Ballinger and two brothers, Edgar Willis and Raymond Willis.

Funeral service for Robert will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Harold Edmonson, Erman Turner and Bobby Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

It is with great sadness that the family of Oscar Elmer Bowlin announces his passing after a brief illness on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the age of 50. He was a native of Fayette and Madison County.

Oscar retired from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after 24 years of service. Oscar enjoyed fishing, hiking, baseball and basketball.

He is remembered with love by: Angela Bowlin; their three sons, Matthew (Cristy), Thomas and Jason.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie “Bird” Bowlin and his mother, Mae Katherine Atkerson.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Wyline Willis Day, 76, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Compassionate Care Center. She was born on May 6, 1942 in Madison Co., Ky., the daughter of the late Wylie and Edith Francis Hale Willis.

She retired from Madison Manor where she worked as a nurses aid and helped many people as a private duty nurse. She loved raising flowers and gardening.

Survivors include one son, John Hayes (Drucilla); three daughters, Judy Rhodus (Roger), Brenda Howard (Omer) and Sandra Marcum; one sister, Ruth Cole (Fred); grandchildren, Melissa Conatser, Anthony Wills, Jonathan Hayes, Amanda Erb, Timothy Howard, Tyler Howard, Crystal Madden, Tinlee Day and Michael Day, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kristen Hayes, Austin Wood, Jamie Wood, Chase Erb, Alyssa Mills, Cameron Poynter, Chris Harrison and Nick Conatser; two special friends, Martha Ann Puckett and Brenda Bishop.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Randall “Pee Wee” Hayes; two brothers, Hershel Willis and Cletus Willis and three sisters, Lorraine Greene, Geneva Shelton and Rachel Robinson.

Mr. Richard Joseph Record, 92, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Kenwood Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Record, the son of the late Jack and Erma Pollak, was born in New York, New York on May 21, 1926.

He was a retired automobile salesman and a United States Navy Veteran. One of his greatest joys in life was his family. On January 19, 1964, Mr. Record united in marriage to Donna Jacobs Record who has preceded him in death.

Survivors include: three sons: William “Bill” Huff and Knoxville, TN, Toby Record and wife Debbie of Richmond and Kevin Smith of Fortuna, CA; four daughters: Patricia Pollak of Portland, OR, Darlene Pollak of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kobie Napier and husband Steve of Lancaster and Kie Record of Richmond; his brother: George Pollak; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Record was also preceded in death by his son, Anthony Huff.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Victory Tabernacle Church of God, 3129 KY-52, Richmond with Rev. Geral Richardson officiating. A Committal Service will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Friday at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Isaac Sebastian

Mr. Isaac “Ike” Sebastian, 83, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Baptist Health – Richmond. Mr. Isaacs, the son of the late Henry Sebastian and Mable Gabbard Sebastian, was born on March 24, 1935 in Owsley County.

He enjoyed working and did so many years for Jerry Jones as a farmer and later for Barger’s Shell Station as a mechanic. He enjoyed playing bingo, hunting, fishing and tending his flower beds.

With great-great grandchildren, he lived long enough to see five generations. He was also of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Sebastian united in marriage to Tishia Barrett Sebastian on March 5, 1956 and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2004.

Survivors include: one son: Randall Isaacs Sebastian of Winchester; four daughters: Helen Carpenter, Roxie Himes and Genevieve Wilson all of Richmond and Teresa Releford (& Mark Holland) of Lexington; two brothers: Morgan Sebastian and Robert Sebastian: his sister: Mary Bell Marcum; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Edith Sebastian; two brothers: Everett Sebastian and Samuel Sebastian and five sisters: Bertheys Sebastian, Clairele Barrett, Dorothy Campbell, Nellie Foster and Anna Roberts.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Beard officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Johnny Ray Turner

Johnny Ray Turner, age 54, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center after a long illness. He was born May 4, 1964 to Betty Ruth Dunn Turner and the late Willie D. Turner.

He lived in Estill Co. most of his life.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by 1 Brother David Wayne Turner of Irvine, 2 Daughters Ydell Veronica Ashcraft, Betty April Turner (Henry Derks) both of Georgetown, 8 Grandchildren Madison, Caydon, Kent, Clinton, Braylon, Tristin, Billie and Peyton, His lifetime love and friend Grace Louise Turner, Several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 1 son, Johnny Ray Turner, Jr., 2 brothers; Franklin Lee Turner and Kenneth Ray Turner, 1 sister, Lisa Carol Jenkins and a special son-in-law, Christopher Lee Kearns.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 4, 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Curt Napier. Burial will be at the New Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call between 11 AM and 1 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Linda Sue Parrett

Linda Sue Parrett was born July 13, 1942 in Hamilton, OH and departed this life Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the St. Joseph Hospital in London, being 75 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Stanley & Viola (Johnson) Marcum.

Linda is survived by two children, Brenda Parrett Hays and her husband Roger of McKee and William H. “Butch” Parrett of McKee. She is also survived by a brother, Jack Edward Standifer of Sand Gap and by a sister, Yvonne Payne of Berea. Linda was blessed with five grandchildren, Brandon Wiles, James Parrett, Dale Hays, Justin Parrett and Haley Parrett and by five great grandchildren, Zoey Wiles, Claire Wiles, Elizabeth Hays, Noah Parrett and Ashton Parrett.

In addition to her parents, Linda was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Marcum and James Marcum and by a sister, Joyce Seaborn.

Private memorial service will be 5:00 PM Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Gray Hawk Reformed Church with Bro. Carroll de Forest officiating. Lakes Funeral Home McKee was in charge of arrangements.
