On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, Deputy Roy Johnson responded to Slate Lick Road in reference to a drug complaint.

Deputy Johnson was unable to locate any persons at the residence however, he observed a male German Shepherd with multiple sores over his body and missing fur on most of the hind quarter of the animal. The dog was also extremely emaciated and its claws were over grown. The German Shepherd with assistance of the Humane Society was taken to Barnes Mill Animal hospital for treatment.

The investigation led Deputy Johnson to arrest and charge Tracey Chestnut, 46 of Berea with Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree.

Chestnut was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
