Tea and Fashion Show

The Fayette County Extension Homemakers Food and Nutrition Committee is planning a Tea and Fashion Show on May 11, 2018 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at the Fayette Extension Office, 1140 Harry Sykes Way, Lexington, KY. The cost of the event is $18.00 per person. The purpose of the Tea is to create awareness and raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Research which is a project of Kentucky Extension Homemakers (KEHA) statewide. One of KEHA’s main health objectives has been to assist in funding ovarian cancer screening and research at the University of Kentucky. Currently, funding for the Ovarian Cancer Research program is in danger of large cuts from the state.

Embry’s of Lexington will be providing the fashion show, along with a beautiful bridal gown from White Dress of Lexington. We will also be sponsoring a silent auction with many lovely gifts and items that would be perfect for Mother’s Day, summer birthdays and much more.

The University of Kentucky’s Ovarian Cancer Research Screening Program is the only program of its kind in the United States. Approximately 15,000 women are screened each year, free of charge, at the various locations throughout the state. The screening program began in 1977 when Virginia McCandless, then state health chairman of KEHA, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her struggle became KEHA’s cause. KEHA members have a rich tradition of raising money to help support ovarian cancer research. As of June 2017, donations totaled more than $1,400,000. To make reservations please call the Fayette County Extension Service office at 859-257-5582 or contact Liz Kingsland at [email protected] or Diana Doggett at [email protected].
