Berea College Alumni Receives ‘President’s Lifetime Achievement Award’

Thomas Smith, 1979 Berea College graduate, has received the ‘President’s Lifetime Achievement Award’ in recognition of his commitment to volunteerism on behalf of the 45th President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump. Now, more than ever, our country relies on volunteers investing their time and talent to resolve the most pressing issues of our time. Thomas Smith said, “It is such an incredible honor to be recognized.”

After graduating with degrees in economics and management at Berea College in 1979, Thomas Smith went to work for the U.S. government, where he became a senior executive in the U.S. Treasury Department. He completed the Masters of Science degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. After more than twenty-five years of public service, he earned a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Management at the University of Pennsylvania. Thomas has been active in Rotary International serving as club President and District 5330 Assistant Governor. He is a trainer for the Rotary Leadership Institute and a member of the Cadre of Technical Advisers and has completed reviews in the United States and the Philippines for The Rotary Foundation. Also, he traveled to Australia and southern India to provide education and literacy training.
