On Thursday, February 15, 2018 around 1:00 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Detectives assigned to the HIDTA Drug Task Force responded to a complaint on East Main Street of a male subject dealing drugs from a vehicle.
Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Donovan Nolan responded to the location to assist detectives when he witnessed, the driver, Franklin Murphy Jr. attempt to discard a plastic bag inside the vehicle. The plastic bag contained approximately 27.5 grams of Methamphetamine. Drug Paraphernalia was also located inside the vehicle.
After continued investigation, detectives recovered a stolen handgun at a residence on East Main Street.
Franklin Murphy Jr., 32 years old of Richmond, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He also had an active warrant for a Parole Violation.
Bruce William Pruitt, 37 years old also of Richmond, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm).
Murphy and Pruitt were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
The Madison County HIDTA Drug Task Force is made up by officers from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Police Department, Berea Police Department and the Kentucky State Police.
