Berea Police Report Oct. 30, 2017


Shoplifting Arrests: On 10/27/2017 officers were called to Walmart in reference to two female shoplifters. Both subjects were observed by store employees putting items in a shopping cart before attempting to leave the store.

Officers arrested 33 year old Miranda Graham of Berea KY and 30 year old Brandy Lanham of Berea KY. Graham also had several outstanding arrest warrants. They were both charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking Shoplifting $500 or More But U/$10,000.


Fatal Collision: On 10/27/2017 at 8:31pm officers were called to the intersection of Walnut Meadow Road and Highway 956 in reference to an injury collision. One person was deceased at the scene, identified as 23 year old Dzhoana Ivanova, who was a Berea College student from Bulgaria. Four other people were transported to area hospitals, some with minor injuries, and some with life threatening injuries.

One of the drivers had an odor of alcohol, and was placed under arrest after being released from St. Joseph Berea. He is identified as 24 year old Daryl Long-Foster of Cincinnati OH, and was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense, as well as several other traffic related offenses. An accident reconstructionist was called to the scene, and parts of the roadway were closed for several hours. The names of the other individuals are not being released at this time.

The investigation in ongoing, and more charges are pending.


Public Intoxication: On 10/29/2017 officers were called to the 500 block of Walnut Creek Drive in reference to a suspicious person. The caller stated that the subject would not leave his property, and attempted to get in to a neighbor’s home. The subject was located, and showed several signs of impairment.

Officers arrested 42 year old Justin Hemmerling of Berea KY and charged him with Public Intoxication and Criminal Trespass 1st Degree.

Criminal Mischief: On 10/24/2017 officers were called to Carpet Connection in reference to damage to a large window on the front of the building. The victim reported that the window was shot with a paintball gun.

Burglary: On 10/24/2017 officers were called to the Berea Country Club in reference to a theft from the storage shed. Estimated Loss: $430.00.
