Patti Marie Rhodus
Patti Marie Rhodus, age 44, of Berea, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in Lexington.
She was employed by Eastern Kentucky University in the food service department.
Patti had battled several illnesses with her heart and lungs over the past few years that just became more that her body could bear. She loved spending time with her family and friends who are all very saddened by her passing.
She was a loving mother to her son Andrew Rhodus, her parents Garry and the late Patsy Rhodus; one brother, Scott Rhodus; one sister Cyndi Rhodus; her nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly, Emily Sipes, Anna Rhodus, Emma Spangler, Justin and Joseph Brandenburg. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Mason and Odie Rhodus and Lillian Delph.
A memorial service to honor the life of Patti will be planned for a later date.
Florence Lee Croucher
Florence Lee Wolfe Croucher, age 93, widow of W. F. Croucher passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at Berea Health and Rehabilitation. She was born June 22, 1924 to the late John T. and Vallie Rucker Wolfe in Granger County TN.
Florence was a member of the Pilot Knob Baptist Church and an employee of Parker Seals Company where she retired after 36 years. She also worked as a greeter for Wal-Mart for 21 years retiring at age 87.
Florence is survived by one son, William Dale (Jean) Croucher of Richmond, one daughter, Alice Faye (Kenneth) Jr. Thacker of Greenville OH., two daughters-in-law, Helen Croucher of Berea, Betty Croucher of Monticello, one brother William T. Wolfe of Berea, four sisters, Delta Lamb of Berea, Irene Hale of Berea, Pearl Campbell of Florida, Edna Geller of Florida, five grandchildren, Mark Thacker, Howard Thacker, Benny Croucher, Buddy Croucher, Angela Durham, two step Grandchildren, Brian Abney, Carrie Abney Vargas and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Marvin T. Croucher, Earl Ray Croucher, one brother, Johnny Wolfe, and one sister Cindy Isaacs.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday September 23, 2017 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Lula Mae McCollum
Lula Mae Phillips McCollum, age 94, widow of Harley McCollum died Monday, September 18, 2017 at the home of her daughter Theresa McClure. She was born June 25, 1923 to the late Jack and Clara Moore Phillips in Rockcastle County.
She was a member of the Cartersville Holiness Church and as long as she could drive she attended several different churches. While raising her children she helped her husband on the farm, she enjoyed raising a garden and flowers during her free time, she also made quilts many of which she gave away. She will be missed by family and friends.
Other than her parents and husband she was preceded in death by thirteen brothers, two sisters, and five children, baby Jackie, Helen Forsythe, James Harley, Freddy Lane, and Bobby Lee McCollum.
Lula is survived by four sons, Billy McCollum and his wife Jody of Garrard County, Johnny McCollum and his wife Peggy of Jessamine County, Michael McCollum and his wife Margaret of Garrard County, Ted McCollum, and his wife Vickie of Jessamine County, three daughters, Thelma Cox and her husband Gayle of Boyle County, Joyce Cuzick and her husband Terry of Jessamine County, and Theresa McClure and her husband June of Rockcastle County. Thirty-One grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Cartersville Holiness Church with Bro. Bruce Alcorn, Bro. Donnie Pingleton and Bro. J. B. Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 PM Wednesday at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home, and after 11:00 AM Thursday at the church.
Her grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.
Gladys B. Laws
Gladys B. Laws, age 89, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Springfield Nursing Home. Gladys was born in Garrard County to the late Luther and Cordie Marlow Brooks.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Alois D. Laws, one daughter Marlene Laws and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by six children Alois D. (Karen) Laws, Jr., Sebastian (Judy) Laws, Marlin D. (Connie) Laws, Jenny Lee Laws, Kathy C. (Darrell) Stocker, and Mary Ann Laws; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
Mildred ‘Midge’ Ammons age 92, wife of the late John Ammons, died Monday Sept. 18, 2017 at the Terrace Nursing Facility in Berea.
Mildred was a Bookkeeper for the family business, Ammons Oil Company, and she loved doing crafts, baking, weaving baskets, and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for family and friends, she also attended the Methodist Church.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents William Wallace and Rosa House Gardner, and her siblings Marjorie Irwin and Bill Gardner.
She is survived by her son Keith (Robin) Ammons and step granddaughter Rachel Devere.
Graveside funeral services will be Thursday Sept. 21, 2017 at 1 pm at the Grandview Cemetery in Maryville, TN.

Dorothy Bernice Pope
Dorothy Bernice Pope age 99, passed away Sunday Sept. 17, 2017 at the Terrace Nursing Facility in Berea. Dorothy was born in Big Stone Gap Virginia to the late Charles Henderson Reasor and Hattie Slemp Reasor.
She had also attended Silver Creek Baptist Church while living in Berea.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children the late Elmo Robinette, and her second husband the late Orville Pope, and her siblings: Curtis, Edward, Milton, Eugene, Ralph, Velma, and Lorene.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert E. Robinette, Sue Elizabeth Robinette Eager, and Charles Ronald Robinette, her brother John David Reasor and 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday Sept. 21, 2017 at 3 pm at the Pilot Knob Cemetery in Berea. Lakes Funeral Home in Berea is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn M. Calico
Carolyn M. Frye Calico, 70 , of Berea, died at Berea Health & Rehabilitation Center, September 19, 2017. She was a Berea native born September 30, 1946 daughter of the late Raymond J. and Dorothy Short Frye.
Carolyn was an outstanding homemaker, loving wife and mother. Carolyn, a music lover, most enjoyed The Lennon Sisters, Lawrence Welk; an animal lover and found great joy in her favorite flowers which were pink and yellow roses, evening primroses, honeysuckle, buttercups and her perennial pink and white tulips. She is missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving husband Larry Calico; 3 children, Joey Calico (Melissa), Jeffery Calico (Sherry), Jaclyn Clemons (C.C.); 4 siblings Patricia Oliver (Leomon), Gary Frye, Raymond Joe Frye, Michael Frye; 3 grandchildren, Eric Calico (Kendra), Nathan Clemons, Shane Clemons; 3 great-grandchildren, Jerri Lynn, Kaden and Kynlee.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Faye Frye.

Marshall W. Jones
Marshall W. Jones, 87, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Richmond Health & Rehab- Madison. Marshall was born on July 12, 1930 in Richmond, and was the son of the late John and Julie McQueen Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Johnson Jones.
He was a self-employed painter, and was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Marshall “Sandy” W. Jones Jr.; one step-daughter, Rita Grant; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Carrie Louise Mitchell, 55, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at her home in Richmond, Kentucky.
She was the wife of Perry Dale Mitchell.

Marion Wayne Watts
Mr. Marion Wayne Watts, 66, of Richmond, formerly of Lexington, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 23, 2017, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Wayne was born in Lexington, Kentucky on January 12, 1951.
He was a retired employee of Dixie Cup Manufacturing.
Survivors include his mother: Margie Barlow; one sister: Beverly Scalf (Donald); two brothers: Terry Watts (Barbara) and Steve Watts as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father: Lewis Watts.

Mr. Lester Lowery, 92, of Richmond, passed away on Friday morning, September 22, 2017, at the Kenwood Health and Rehab Center. He was born in Madison County on April 8, 1925 to the late Connerd and Lizzie Short Lowery.
He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing and had volunteered at God’s Outreach Food Bank for 10 years. He served his country in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the Victory Tabernacle Church of God.
Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Naomi Short Lowery; two sons, Anthony Lowery (Linda) and Lee Lowery (Carolyn); three daughters, Marlene Pearson (Gerald), Kay Newman (Ronnie) and Deborah Johnson; one brother, Ray Lowery; one sister, Elsie Howard; 13 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Lowery and a grandson, Donovan Lowery.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Pastor Geral Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be after 1:30PM Sunday, at the funeral home.
Elkin Eugene Combs
Dr. E. E. Combs, (Elkin Eugene), 89, passed away Wednesday evening at Madison Health and Rehab in Richmond. Born in Winchester, Kentucky on November 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Elkin Combs.
Dr. Combs was a retired chiropractor and was a member of the Fountain Park First Church of God.
He is survived by his wife: Nena Carman Combs; one sister: Evelyn Faye Combs of Louisville and several cousins and dear friends.

Irene Reba Whicker
Irene Reba Whicker, 89, of Richmond, widow of Kenneth Wallace Whicker, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017. She was born in Owsley Co., Ky. on July 19, 1928, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Price Combs.
She was a retired beautician and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Irene was a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church in Florida, but enjoyed attending First Baptist Church in Richmond. She loved cooking, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed boating and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Phillip Whicker, of Richmond and Joshua Daniel Whicker, of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Carolyn Michelle Mann, of Daytona Beach, FL, Patricia Gayle Treadway, of Independence and Kelly Susan Green, of Seminole, FL.

Julie Ann Secrist
Julie Ann Cox Secrist, 53, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at her home in Bardstown, Kentucky. A former Richmond Resident, Julie was born on January 5, 1964 in Middletown, Ohio.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. Julie was a member of the Bardstown Church of God.
Survivors include her husband; Tim Secrist; one son: Joshua Adam Secrist (Jennifer); two daughters: Sarah Nicole’ Reed and Sheila Echelle Harbinson (Johnathan); her father: Gerald Cox; her mother: Judy Kirby; four brothers: Jerry Allen Cox, Timmy Nolan Cox (Paula), Steve Cox and William Lawson; two sisters: Jodi Walters (Tim) and Kimberly Lawson; four grandchildren: Jeremiah and Evelyn Harbinson and Hayden and Austin Secrist and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Waveline Thacker Gabbard, 62, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at her home. Waveline, the daughter of Charles Thacker and Vadis Marie Isaacs Thacker, was born in Madison County on November 5, 1954.
She had worked for the Estill County Jail and Motor Wheel in Berea.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers: Donnie Thacker and Eddie Thacker (Michelle); two grandsons: Daniel Thacker (Michelle Isaacs) and Joshua Thacker (Chelsey) and her great grandson: Connor Thacker.
Waveline was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thacker; her son, Danny Joe Thacker and her brother: Jimmy Thacker.

Elbert Stanley Reed
Mr. Elbert Stanley Reed 63, husband of Paula (Proctor) of Brodhead, KY. departed this life September 22, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center of Richmond, KY. Stanley entered into this life March 10, 1954 the son of the late Elbert Preacher and Irene Christian Morris Reed.
Stanley and Paula were united in holy matrimony February 6, 2016. He loved gardening and fabrication of everything. He was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ.
Those left to celebrate his life are his wife; Paula (Proctor) Reed of Brodhead, KY.; his daughter; Rebecca Reed Hammons of Hamilton, OH. His step children: Tanner Allen of Brodhead, KY.; Heather Allen Bradley of Brodhead, KY, and Willy McCollum of Crab Orchard, KY. Ten grandchildren; Jacquelin & Gabriel Hammons, Stanley McCollum, Brent Bradley, Catelyn Snyder, Trenton & Ethen Kates, John & Edward Portier. Two brothers: Ray Reed & (Partner) Donna Farrell of Florida; and Rusty & (wife) Cyndi Reed of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Elbert Preacher and Irene Christian, his first wife; Sally Randolph Reed, a daughter; Vicky McCollum; one grandchild; Jessica Hammons; and a sister Lisa Reed Davis.

Angela Marie Peters
Mrs. Angela Marie Peters, age 38 of Mt. Vernon, Ky. died Friday, September 22, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident. She was born on December 25, 1978, in Ft. Knox, Ky., a daughter of Roger Rountree and Deborah Anderson Bustle.
Angela was an RN with the Thomson Hood Veterans Hospital in Wilmore, Ky. She was a member of the Baptist faith, and found great joy in painting pictures, traveling, being outdoors, hiking and photography.
Those left to celebrate her life are her children: Alexis King (Bo Martin) of Mt. Vernon, Ky; Michael Craig King of Mt. Vernon, Ky.; and Dylan Isaacs of Mt. Vernon,Ky. Her parents: Roger Rountree of Williamsburg, Ky., and Deborah Bustle and Robert Bustle of London, Ky. Her sisters: Jessica Thomas of Berea, Ky; Kimberly (Bryan) Branham of Corbin, Ky; and Natasha (Walter) Bowling of London, Ky; her brothers: Johnny Ray Rountree of London, Ky; and Robert Bustle of London, Ky; her boyfriend: Anthony Cook and his children; special sisters: Teresa Messinger, Jessica Rose McKinney and Sonya Mitchell. Her father-in-law, Robert Peters of Mt. Vernon, Ky. As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.

Amanda Marie Garcia
Amanda Marie Garcia, 27 of Richmond, passed from this life on Friday, September 22nd, 2017 at the U.K. Hospital in Lexington. She was born on September 18th, 1990 in Richmond to Anthony Leon & Rhonda Lovonne “Saylor” Leger.
On August 3rd, 2011 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Moses Garcia. She enjoyed playing Bingo, driving, spending time with family & friends, loved eating McDonalds Ice Cream and also enjoyed cotton candy.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Moses Garcia; her brothers Dillon Roberts & Justin Napier, both of Stanford, KY, and Kevin Lowery of Madison County, KY; her mother Rhonda Hernandez of Richmond, KY; as well as an abundance of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Amanda is preceded in death by her dad Anthony Leon Leger; her papaw Silas Saylor; and her mamaw Helen Powell Saylor.
A visitation will be held from 11AM-2PM on Monday, September 25th, 2017 at the Copper Creek Baptist Church with funeral services following at 2PM. Burial will be in the Sweet Water Cemetery.
Julia Melissa Lamb
Julia Melissa Lamb, 84 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, September 17th, 2017 at her residence with family by her side. She was born on December 18th, 1932 to the late Lafey & Ida Mae (Kidwell) Lamb in Conway, KY.
She attended the Church of God in Conway and she was the last living charter member of that church. She also took great enjoyment in Quilting, Gardening and caring for her pets.
Those left to celebrate her life are: her children, Mary Aileen Tate & Brenda Sue (Tom) Lesson both of Berea, KY; her five grandchildren; her eleven great grandchildren; her brothers J. T. Lamb, of Berea, KY & Charlie (Lois) Lamb, of Mt. Vernon, KY; her sisters Dora Smith & Jean Moody, both of Mt. Vernon, KY & Elvena Powers of Richmond, KY; as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents, Julia was preceded in death by a daughter, Ethel Mae Montgomery & a brother Forrester Lamb.
Visitation for Julia will be held from Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 from 10AM-1PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with a funeral service following at 1PM with Bro. C. W. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Lamb Cemetery.

Carl Bradley Jordan
Carl Bradley Jordan, age 62, of West Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, September 19th, at the Compassionate Care Center, following a long illness. He was born March 30, 1955, in Madison County, a son of the late Boyd and Sadie White Jordan.
He retired from the Estill County Water District and had lived in Estill County all his life. He was a member of the Hargett Baptist Church, the Beechwood Bowhunters Club, and the Estill County Sportsman Club where he served as former president.
He is survived by His Wife Deborah Ann Abney Jordan, A Son Ethan Jordan (Kayla) of Estill Co., 3 Sisters Barbara Jean Carroll of Texas, Anna Francis Neal (Tony), Vicki Lee Kelly (Anthony), 1 Brother Roy Jordan (Christine) all of Estill Co., A Sister-in-Law Carmy Jordan and 1 Grandchild Colt Jordan.
He was preceded in death by a Brother, Ronnie Jordan.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 11 AM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Marvin Neal with burial to follow in the Shepherd Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Friday.
Arthur W. Fowler
Arthur W. Fowler, age 93, of Stacy Lane in Irvine passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the Paul E. Patton Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center. He was born February 14, 1924 in Lee County and was the son of the late Floyd and Mona Cox Fowler.
He was a retired General Motors employee and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by 1 Sister Faye Etta Brinegar of Louisville, 1 Brother Don Charles Fowler & wife, Diana Lee of Richmond, along with Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 4 sisters; Beulah Eades, Wanella J. Fowler, Geraldine Marcum, Freida Mae Morton and 2 brothers; Harold Jonah Fowler and Louis Wilkie Fowler.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 22, 11 AM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Sam Miller. Burial will be at the Sparks Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home.
