Lester Lee Walters
Lester Lee Walters, age 60, of Blue Lick Rd. in Berea, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at U.K. Hospital in Lexington. Lester was born in Rockcastle County to the late Charles Elmer and Opal Jean Shepherd Walters.
He was a retired facilities manager at Berea College.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Linda Neeley Walters and one sister Elizabeth Walters.
He is survived by his life companion, B.J. Pittman; two sons, Jon (Kelly) Walters, Jason (Jessica) Walters; one daughter, Samantha (Thomas) Sayre Taylor; three brothers, Charles Walters, Dennis Walters, and Dwayne Walters; five sisters, Eula Mae (George) Miller, Janet (David) McClenney, Kathleen (Herb Holcomb) Alexander, Geraldine Spires, and Wilma (Anthony) Baker; two grandsons, Jacob Walters and Sam Walters.
Funeral services will be 1pm, Friday, September 1, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Roy Himes and Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-9 pm.
Pallbearers will be Doug Parker, Dustin Baker, Keith Crawford, Andrew Hayes, Garry Gay, and Jacob Walters.
Patricia B. Jones (85) went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2017. She was born on August 28, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN and grew up in Mankato, MN.
She started going “steady” with her husband to be (Leigh) when they were sophomores in high school. They were married August 8, 1954 after she completed her nurses training (RN) at Bethesda Hospital in St Paul, MN and Leigh graduated from the University of Minnesota.
She is survived by her husband, Leigh and 5 children; Steven(Lisa), Jeff (Deena), Cindy Pippin (Dwayne), Vicki Robinson (Dimitri) and Karen Gabbard (Rodney). 13 grandchildren, Cory Jones, Dylan Jones (Jessica), Scott Jones, Tabetha Frost (Robert), Devyn Partin (Jacob), Evan Robinson (Stephanie), Ty Robinson (Danielle), Jay Robinson (Sarah), Kim Quiles (Adam), Lukas Gabbard, Griffin Gabbard, Dawson Gabbard and Jeremiah. 9 great grandchildren. Kinley Frost, Harlow Frost, Declan Frost, Wesley Partin, Gavin Partin, Ethan Robinson, Mikah Robinson, Malachi Robinson and Evelyn Rose Robinson.
Besides raising 5 children Pat worked in the maternity ward at Berea Hospital for several years and after that worked with Dr. Louise Hutchins as her nurse/driver for 18 years in bringing medical services to the women of Eastern Kentucky.
Pat enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, traveling and taking ski trips with Leigh. She had a wonderful voice and sang with the Richmond Choral Society and her church choir. She taught a 6th grade Sunday School class where she was affectionately known to her students as Grandma Jones.

Bessie Jean Ballinger
Bessie Jean Broadus Ballinger, age 79, widow of the late Rev. Russell Ballinger, passed away Wednesday August 30, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Ky. She was born October 13, 1937 to the late William and Verna McHone Broadus.
Being the wife of a minister for 32 years, Bessie led many bible studies, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the First Faith Independent Church in Berea. Bessie was a quilter and had the honor of Kentucky Colonel.
Other than her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Gabbard and step mother Lottie Broadus.
Bessie is survived by four children, Jerry Gabbard of Berea, Debbie Ballinger (Frank) Powell of Berea, Rusty (Kim) Ballinger of Huntington W.V., Joanne Ballinger of Berea, Step son Dwayne Litton of Berea, five brothers, Bill Broadus, Sam Broadus, Conley Broadus, Tom Broadus Miller, and Don Broadus Miller, seven grandchildren, Valarie Gabbard Baker, Zack Gabbard, Chad Ballinger Jenkins, Amelia Burkhardt, Brooke Hensley, Bradley Martin Powell, and Cooper Ballinger. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Berea Cemetery Mausoleum, visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2017 from 1-9 pm at the funeral home.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and her brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Billy Howard age 76, husband of Hazel Lawless Howard, died Friday Sept. 1, 2017 at his home. He was born in Rockcastle County to the late Edgar and Grace Brown Howard, and he was also preceded in death by his brother Glenn Howard.
Billy was retired from Parker Seal Company.
Billy is survived by his wife Hazel Howard, his children Deborah Howard and Anthony Howard, and his siblings Shirley Wilson, Linda Hollis, and Teresa Shivel.
Funeral services will be Tuesday Sept. 5, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea at 1:00 pm; visitation will be Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
George Thomas Waddle
Rev George Thomas Waddle, age 87, husband of Mariea Calico Waddle, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at the St. Joseph Berea Hospital. Born November 29, 1929 to Samuel William Waddle and Bennie Belle Duke Waddle in Frog Level, KY.
He was a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Diploma in Theology. He was called to pastor Westside Baptist Church where he served for 35 years. Not only did he shepherd the flock of Westside Baptist, he was a pastor to the entire community of Berea. He was a founding member of the Berea Volunteer Fire Department and later served as the Chaplain for the Berea Fire Department.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Roberts Waddle, daughter Terry Roberts Waddle, two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife Mariea, children Tommie Jo Cooper (Kent); Stephen William Waddle (Fran); Bennie Duke Davis, Chris Waddle (Brittany); and Karen Whorral (Buddy). George was proud grandfather to Stephanie Knowles, Bradley Cooper, Stephen Andrew Waddle, Erin Lynn Oberg, William Davis, Mary Elizabeth Timm, William Davis, Betty Louise Hagar, Amber Riley, and Megan Lovaas. In addition he leaves behind 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Westside Baptist Church with Rev Albert Griffin and Rev. Mark Sarver officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery in Somerset, KY. Pall bearers will be Brad Cooper, Andy Waddle, Willie Davis, James Davis, Buddy Whorrall and Nathan Oberg. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, from 6pm – 9pm at Westside Baptist Church in Berea. Lakes Funeral Home in Berea is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond Pierce Chandler
Raymond Pierce Chandler, 72, of Berea, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at Baptist Health Richmond. He was a Mt. Sterling, KY native born September 30, 1944, son of the late Robert Charles “R.C.” and Grace Wright Chandler.
He was a Tool and Die Maker for Continental Tool and Die, and a United States Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his loving wife Susan Gunter Chandler; 2 children; Jeff Chandler (Sheryl) and Jennifer Estep (Shawn); 3 siblings, Larry Chandler (Marilyn), Wilma Spencer (Jay), and Sandy Bromfield (Morrie); Brother-in-law Jim Smith; 2 grandchildren, Shawna Estep (Fiancé Stephen Jones) and Jenna Estep plus several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings; Mary Ginter, Joe Ginter (Brother-in-law), Janice Smith and Jeretta Chandler.
No services are scheduled following cremation. Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.
Donald Center Robertson
Donald Center Robertson, 74, of Berea, died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital Berea. He was a Manhattan, New York native born December 3, 1942, son of the late D.B. and Bernice Center Robertson, and an Engineer for the United States Department of Defense.
Survivors include 3 children, Sean Robertson (Laura), Danielle Robertson and Kristen Caligan (Douglas); 1 sibling, Bruce Robertson (Linda); four grandchildren, Kyle Caligan, Ryan Caligan, Chase Robertson and Ella Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary J. Robertson.
Acceptance of Friends and Gathering after 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Reppert Funeral Home. Memorial Service at 1:00 pm. Assoc. Pastor Rev. Rachel Small Stokes officiating. Burial in Berea Cemetery.

Michael Neal Bogie
Michael Neal Bogie, 70, of Waco, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 at his home. He was born October 6, 1946, in Madison County to Frank and Louella Chamberlain Bogie, both of whom preceded him in death.
Michael was a retired law enforcement and security officer with the Bluegrass Army Depot and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post, the Disabled American Veterans and the College Hill Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Starr Ford Bogie of Waco; one daughter, Jennifer Bogie Mullins (Brian) of Berea; two sons, Christopher Bogie of Georgetown and Timothy Bogie (Ginger) of Hubert, NC; two sisters, Nancy Gross of Paris, KY and Kathy Ray (Dwight) of West Virginia; three brothers, Edward Bogie (Ruth) of Hillsboro, NC, Tom Bogie (Katherine) Bogie of Ozark, AL, and David Bogie (Glenda) of Lawrenceburg, KY; six grandchildren, Sydney Marie Bogie, Dillon Michael Bogie, Ryan Neal Bogie, Bryson Timothy Bogie, Logan Christopher Mullins, and Marissa Lyn Starr Mullins, along with several nieces and nephews.
In honoring Michael’s wishes, the family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Harold D. Alford Sr.
Harold D. Alford Sr. 87, of Richmond, KY passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Compassionate Care Center. Born May 20, 1930, in Lexington, KY.
Dean was a graduate of Lafayette High School. After graduation, he entered the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He then attended Florida Christian College, where he met his future wife, Carolyn Rhine. They married in 1953 in West Palm Beach, FL. In 1973 the couple moved with their three children to Richmond. Mr. Alford was employed by South Central Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) and retired in 1985 with 34 years of service. Mr. Alford was also a member of the Richmond Church of Christ.
Mr. Alford is survived by his three loving children: Carole Moores (Cecil), Wendy Alford, and Harold Dean Alford, Jr (Lisa), all of Richmond, KY; six grandchildren: Carrie Davidson (Ben) of Conifer, CO, Brittany Reynolds of Richmond, KY, Casey Hymore (Chris) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Andre Carr of Richmond, VA, Thomas Ferell of Golden, CO, and Emily Bailey of Richmond, KY; three great-grandchildren: Elijah and Jackson Davidson, and Carson Hymore; his beloved Boston Terrier, Precious; several nieces and nephews, and his special “adopted” grandchildren, Tye and Alison Chavies.
Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Rhine Alford, his parents, Otis Durham and Viola Alford, and his brother, James Alford.
Visitation will be from 10 – 11am Saturday, September 2, at Oldham, Roberts, and Powell, with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. James Harold Alford (nephew) will officiate. Burial to follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Alford, Jonathan Alford, Tye Chavies, Ben Davidson, and Chris Hymore. Honorary Pallbearers: Elijah and Jackson Davidson, and Carson Hymore.

Ocie Callahan Parks
Ocie Callahan Parks, 91, the widow of Wilburn Parks, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Berea Health and Rehab Center. Born March 25, 1926, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Dora Collins Callahan.
Mrs. Parks was a retired employee of Modern Dry Cleaners of Richmond and her family was her life.
Survivors include her children, Tommie Parks (Kay) of Richmond, Jimmie Parks (Mary Ann) of Winchester, Leon Parks, Jo Ann Ray (Anthony) and Jerry Parks (Anna), all of Richmond; two sisters, Martha Avery and Versie Elson, both of Richmond; 22 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Callahan Abrams; two sons, Donald Callahan and Wilburn Parks; four sisters, Eva Lack, Odessa Shifflet, Mattie Whittey, and Daisey Callahan; and four brothers, Frank “Jack”, Lester, Clyde, and Elbert Callahan.

Jon Michael Bertolet
Jon Michael Bertolet, 38, of Richmond and formerly of Burton, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 after arrival at Baptist Health – Richmond. Born February 28, 1979, in Houston, Texas, he was the son of Jon Douglas and Priscilla Garrison Bertolet.
He was an employee of Vertical Structures in Richmond, Kentucky.

Burnam Lee Robertson Sr.
Burnam Lee Robertson Sr. age 73, of Sunrise Valley Road in Irvine, passed away Sunday, August 27th, at his home, following a short illness. He was born November 1, 1943, in Madison County, a son of the late Harry Lee Robertson and Della Dixon Robertson Gilbert.
He was a self-employed carpenter and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.
He is survived by 3 Daughters Tammy Blevins (Gary), Sandra Alexander (Daniel), Julia Robertson all of Berea, 3 Sons Roger Robertson (Cathy), Teddy Robertson (Ruth), Burnam Lee Robertson Jr. (Jessica) all of Berea. 7 Sisters Lo Hawkins of Alabama, Josephine Kelly of Ohio, Cindy Hall of Virginia, Sarah Gray, Nannie Mae Cagle, Shelia McDowell, Gay Vestal all of Florida. 2 Brothers Dean Robertson, Dave Robertson both of Florida, 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 Son, Gary Robertson, and 2 Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Vester Alexander with burial to follow in the Walton Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 AM Friday until service time.
Johnny Burdell Fox
Johnny Burdell Fox was born March 17, 1956 in Jackson County and departed this life Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his residence, being 61 years of age. He was the son of the late Ezart & Margie (Redden) Fox.
Johnny is survived by two children, Mark Fox and his wife Tracy of McKee and Margie Colleen Harrison and her husband Paul of McKee. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Feltner of Berea and by four brothers, Hubie Fox, Bill Fox, Joe Fox and Jimmy Fox all of Irvine. Johnny was blessed with five grandchildren, Jordan (Tiffany) Fox, Travis Fox, Tyler Harrison, Lyndsey Harrison and Triston Harrison and by three great grandchildren, Colton, Lakeyn & Carter Fox.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda (Hisel) Fox.
Johnny was a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church.
Funeral service 1:00PM Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Darrell Isaacs officiating. Burial to follow in the Hisel Cemetery.

Hilda Hayes was born January 17, 1926 in Hamilton, OH and departed this life Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 91 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Tom Crank and Rebecca Gabbard Wright.
Hilda is survived by three children, Wade Hayes and wife Lorisa of Philippians, Wayne Hayes and wife Sylvia of Gray Hawk and Mary Wagers and husband Walter of Gray Hawk. She was blessed with six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Hilda was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hayes and by three siblings, Doris Hays, Patricia Crank and Bill Stacey.
Hilda was a member of the Gray Hawk Reformed Church.
