KY Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life to host 5K Run/Walk

This Saturday, the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life will host their annual 5K Walk/Run on September 16.  All proceeds from this race help transplant patients who are in financial crisis so they can afford vital medication, costly medical bills, co-pays, and travel needs.

Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life Board President and Clark Co. Circuit Court Clerk, Paula Joslin, is hosting the main event in Winchester, Kentucky.  The timed 5K will be held at College Park at 15 Wheeler Avenue in Winchester, KY.  Registration begins 7am.  Race begins at 8am.  Awards will be given at the event for largest team, best individual outfit, and best team uniform.  Also, there will be music, food and fun!

To help transplant patients in financial need, all proceeds from the 5K event go directly toward the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life’s Judge Charles Satterwhite Patient Assistance Fund.

“Helping people is what I love most about being a Circuit Court Clerk.  In addition to the work we do at Driver’s License to support the mission of organ donation & grow the Organ Donor Registry, this program holds a special place in my heart.  We are ensuring patients have the medication they need to stay alive.  This is an incredible statewide mission to stand behind,” says Madison Circuit Court Clerk, Darlene Snyder.

Since 2001, the fund has helped over 400 Kentucky transplant recipients from 88 different counties around Kentucky.  With grants totaling nearly $300,000, recipients have ranged in age from 3 months to 70 years old. The Patient Assistance Fund covers the expenses that the family does not have the resources to meet or are not covered by medical insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. (Referrals for assistance are only accepted from hospital social workers and are kept strictly confidential.)

“Winchester is centrally located and is easily accessible from I-64, I-75 and the Mountain Parkway,” said Joslin.  “I hope everyone comes out for the race and spend the rest of the day on the river with a beer cheese burger and an Ale-8.  There are many creative ways to participate and support this wonderful mission.”

Runners will include Circuit Clerks and Deputies (pictured in stripes) as well as Donor Families and Transplant Recipients, like Samantha Sloan, heart transplant recipient (pictured here in yellow).
