Dorothy Elizabeth Devere
Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Devere, age 91, of Menifee Lane, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Berea. Dorothy was born in Ashland, Kentucky to the late John and Eliza Mormon Ison.
She was an English teacher at Madison Central for over 21 years. After she retired, she loved spending time tending to her gardens and flowers. She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at White Lick Baptist Church. When her health started to decline she became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of many years Andrew J. Devere; five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her six children Brenna (James) Stamm, Darlene (Dennis) Grant, Marcia (Bob) Low, Maureen Sue (Vann) Bryant, John (Karen) Devere, and Mike (Jennifer) Devere; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Joey Kays officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 5-8pm.
Active pallbearers will be Shannon Devere, Andrew Devere, Matthew Devere, Lucas Devere, Byron Bryant, and Jay Stamm.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building fund.
William Harold Jennings
William Harold “Wid” Jennings, age 92, died Friday February 3rd, 2017 at his home. He was a native of Garrard County, born to the late Milton and Ludie Bryant Jennings.
Mr. Jennings was a member of the White Lick Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Music Director for over 25 yrs. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and was wounded at the battle of Bulge on the Belgium front and received the Purple Heart and 2 bronze Stars. After the war, he made his home in Berea and owned and operated the Jennings Body Shop for 33 yrs. He has been a member of, American Legion Post #50 in Berea since 1946, Berea Masonic Lodge #617 F. & A.M. since 1951. Mr. Jennings enjoyed hunting and fishing but truly loved to play golf.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Josh Wagers and Travis Simpson, his siblings, Odessa Emma, Bonnie, Vina, Hallie, James, Ed, Glyndon, Chester, Lola, Mary, and Clarence.
Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife of over 69yrs, Grace “Speedy” Johnson Jennings, his daughters, Anga Lee Jennings, of Lexington, KY., Diane (Richard) Baily of Spring Hill, FL., his grandchildren, Ted (Kristina) Osborn, Timothy (Johnna) Simpson, Cayci (Brian) Sebastian and granddaughter in law, Christine Wagers. Great grandchildren, Will Simpson, Bradey McHargue, Cherish Simpson, Chandler Simpson, Bailey McHargue and Isabella Wagers. Step great grandchildren, Isabella, Jasmine, Oneal Sebastian. One brother, Homer (Valette) Jennings.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, February 9th, 2017 at the White Lick Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 pm with Masonic Rites at 7 pm. Contributions suggested to a charity of your choice. Davis & Powell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of White Lick Baptist Church.
Wade Miller, age 52, of Mount Vernon, KY; died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born in Georgetown, KY to the late Monroe and Viola Van Winkle Miller.
Mr. Miller was of the Baptist faith, he loved to fish and be in the woods hunting ginseng but most of all he loved spending time with family especially his grandchildren.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by, his son, Jeffery Wade Miller, Jr., and a brother, Earl Miller.
Mr. Miller is survived by, his children, Justin Miller of Mount Vernon, KY., Chasity Collins of Mount Sterling, KY., Brandon Miller, and Steven (Bobbie Markwell) Miller both of Mount Vernon, KY., his grandchildren, Brianna and Matthew Collins and Jayden Miller, his brothers, Randy (Alice) Miller of Franklin, OH>, and Ray Miller of Mount Vernon, KY., his sisters, Jean (Keith) Rose of McKee, KY., and Debra Long of Berea, KY.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Van Winkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnetta Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
MiKeila Renee’ Love
MiKeila Renee’ Love, 33, of Kenway Street in Berea, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. MiKeila was born in Richmond to Michael and Sheila Wolfe Sandlin.
She loved taking pictures, flying with her dad, crafting, playing canasta, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather’s Lowell Sandlin and Albert Wolfe.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband Andrew Love, her son that she loved more than anything, Elijah Love, her sister Kayci (Daniel) Brindley; her mamaw Geneva Sandlin and her mamaw Mina Wolfe; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her nephew and niece, Talon and Clara Brindley, who lovingly called her Ninny; Brooke Means, her dear friend and “sister”; and special cousins, Cody and Shane Sandlin.
A Celebration of Life will be 1 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Church on the Rock with Pastor Mark Sarver officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11am – 1pm at the church.
Pallbearers will be Roger Dale Wolfe, Ben Wolfe, Dustin Wolfe, Waynie Miller, Jason Clayton, Mark Sandlin, Brandon Sandlin, and Shawn Sandlin. Honorary bearers will be Cody Sandlin and Shane Sandlin.

Cora Willetta Swinford, 88, of Berea, died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at St. Joseph Berea. She was a Rockcastle County native born May 14, 1928, daughter of the late Albert and Tallie VanWinkle Childress, homemaker, resident of the Berea area all her life and attended Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ernest (Debbie) Swinford, Larry (Glenna) Swinford; 2 grandchildren, Stacy (Shawn) Sandlin, Chris Swinford; and 1 great grandson, Tyler Sandlin; as well as numerous relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Swinford.
Funeral Service 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Cortez officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 1:00 pm Thursday.

Carolyn Mae Coyle Lainhart, 68, wife of Fred W. Lainhart, died on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky. Carolyn was born on September 26, 1948 in Estill County, Kentucky to the late Dewey and Myrtle Rose Coyle.
She was employed by the Eye Care Center and was a member of Revival Tabernacle Church.
Other than her husband, Fred Lainhart, she is survived by: one son, Jonathan Fred Lainhart (Jennifer) of Richmond, KY; two daughters, Cynthia Carol Lainhart Wiseman (Mark) of Richmond, KY and Karen Annette Lainhart Franklin (Jon) of Cleveland, TN; five grandchildren, James Andrew Lainhart, Jakob Seth Lainhart, Reagan Danielle Wiseman, Hannah Rose Franklin and Rebekah Ann Franklin; three brothers, Paul Coyle (Joan) of Berea, KY, and Ralph Coyle and Gary Coyle (Tammy), both of Waco, KY; two sisters, Betty Miller of Irvine, KY, and Shirley Stidham (Lester) of Waco, KY; one sister-in-law Dorothy Coyle of Berea, KY.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Ulysess, and William Alfred Coyle, and two grandchildren, James Erik Patton and James Airin Patton.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Pastor David Lamb, Tony Stidham and Jon Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the funeral home.

Carol Sue Gray
Carol Sue McCoy Gray, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Baptist Health- Lexington. She was the widow of Clarence Gray. Mrs. Gray was born on November 14, 1937 in Jenkins, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Fletcher and Ruby Flannery McCoy, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a retired Medical Records Administrator. Mrs. Gray was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond where she was involved with many different ministries, and was active in both the Cats of the Red Hats of Richmond and the Bluegrass Red Hats Society of Lexington.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Isabella Marie Arthur, and a sister, Helen Davidson.
Survivors include: one son, Jeff Gray (Tina), of Winchester; two daughters, Jeannie Gray Arthur, of Richmond, and Lisa Gray Rearden (Andy), of Ashland; four grandchildren, Courtney Layne Rader, Cameron Ross Arthur, Connor Ashton Gray, and Shayla Arthur Roberts; one great-granddaughter, Addison Marie Rader; and one nephew, Phillip Davidson, of Sparta, NC.
Funeral services for Carol Gray will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Richmond, with Rev. Sam Newman and Rev. Tim Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Services will also be conducted at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland, KY, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 with Rev. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home.

Lisa Ann Johnson
Lisa Ann Johnson, 48, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2017 at her home in Richmond, Kentucky. She was born October 7, 1968 to Vickie E. Parks and the late Flemon Lakes Jr.
Lisa was self-employed and of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include her mother, Vickie E. Parks; one brother, Flemon Lakes; two sisters, Tammy Fowler and Nancy Johnson.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, February 14, 12017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.
James Christian Lee Anderson, 19, of Paint Lick, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Christian enjoyed working on the farm, diesel trucks and riding dirt bikes and hunting. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald and Tracci Lear Metcalfe; his brother, Kraig Anderson (Hannah); a niece, Avery Anderson; paternal grandfather, Kenneth Anderson; paternal grandmother, Ruth Metcalfe; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Frances Lear; his longtime girlfriend, Halee Smolinsky; his pit bulldog, Milo; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his natural father, James Matthew Anderson; maternal grandparents, Elmer Lee & Holly Sue Lear; paternal grandfather, Gerald Metcalfe; paternal grandmother, Jessie Lynn Lakes; a cousin & best friend, Hayes Rogers.

Mrs. Viola Agnes Ball Roark, 73, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. Viola was born in Richmond, KY at the old Pattie A. Clay Hospital on February 21, 1943, to the late Albert and Mamie Cox Ball.
The youngest of eleven children,Viola graduated from Madison Central High School in 1961, and went on to work for Westinghouse-Phillips until her retirement in 1994. She loved to read, work in her garden and flowers and spend time caring for her family. She had a special talent for finding four leaf clovers wherever she went. Mrs. Roark was a member of the Flatwoods Christian Church.
Shortly after her graduation from high school, she was united in marriage to James “Jimmy” Roark on May 26, 1961 and together they enjoyed 51 years together until he passed away in 2013.
She is survived by: her son, Troy Roark; her daughter, Lisa Lamb (John); four grandchildren, Adam Lamb, Jami Bray, Brooke Sydow (Joseph) and Tara Beth Roark; 11 great-grandchildren, Brayden Lamb, Hadliegh Lamb, Lucas Lamb, Benjamin Lamb, Gavin Bray, Jaxon Sydow, Skylar Sydow, Bentlay Sydow, Ayliana Nunez, Annalysa Nunez and Taven Collins; two sisters, Peggy Centers and Ann Westbrook; one sister-in-law, Colleen Ball; her father-in-law, Ed Roark; her three beloved dogs, Sparky, Chico and Poppy; as well as, many other family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a special brother, Ivan Ball, and special sister, Iona Adam.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main Street, with Bro. Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Janet Lynn Shanks
Janet Lynn Griggs Shanks, 61, of Richmond, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at her home. She was born in Madison Co., Ky., on November 3, 1955, the daughter of the late W. T. and Alta Hembree Griggs.
She was a graduate of Madison Central High School where she participated in the Indianettes. She had worked as an Assistant Veterinarian.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Shanks, Jr.; two daughters, Lauren Kilgore (David) and Ashley Obergfell (Chris); two step-sons, Galen Shanks and Marcus Shanks; a brother, Mike Griggs; grandchildren, Aiden Kilgore, Katie Kilgore, Tristen Obergfell and Bobby Obergfell.
Services will be private.
Lora Marie Noble
Lora Marie Deaton Noble, 57, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at her home. Lora, the daughter of Pete Deaton and Alberta Bowman Deaton, was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 12, 1959.
She had retired from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services as a Social Worker and had recently worked for Frame Bridge. She was united in marriage to Dale Noble on April 25, 1981 who survives.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is also survived by her son: Clinton Dale Noble of Richmond; two brothers: Matthew Deaton and Andrew Deaton and two sisters: Sharon Deaton and Karen Davis and husband Jerry.
Lora was preceded in death by her father.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Flatwoods Cemetery in Waco. Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Frank Maples, 63, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, February 5th, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Maples was born on August 23rd, 1953, a son of the late Casper Lee and Ruby Irene (Croucher) Maples.
He was a dozer operator in the coal industry and also served as a Rockcastle County Constable. He was a member of Roundstone Baptist Church and he took great joy in hunting and collecting knives.
Those left to celebrate his life are: his son, Matthew (Loren) Maples of Brodhead, KY.; brothers, Lester Maples of Richmond, KY., and Vester (Judy) Maples of Mt. Vernon, KY.; as well as many friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, Mr. Maples was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Visitation for Frank Maples will be held Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 from 5pm until 8pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 12pm at the funeral home with Bro. Shannon Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Meret Cemetery.
