Johnathan Rowland age 55, husband of Madge Johnson Rowland, died Saturday Dec. 3, 2016 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. He was born in Chicago IL to Mayme Cope Rowland and the late Mace Rowland and he was preceded in death by his brother Stephen T. Rowland and Joseph Rowland.
Johnathan was a builder and built homes in central Kentucky for many years, he was also a member of the Family Worship Center in Lexington KY.
Johnathan is survived by his wife of 37 years Madge Johnson Rowland, his daughters Leslie Marie (Johnny) Bussell, and Kathleen Audrey (Christopher) Long, his brother Zach (Ann) Rowland, and sisters Rebecca (Craig) Garrett and Rachel (Robert) Quinley, and grandchildren Bentley Jacob and Addison Olivia Bussell.
Funeral services will be Wednesday Dec. 7, 2016 at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea, with Pastor Don Adkins officiating, burial will be in the Scaffold Cane Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday Dec. 6, 2016 from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Roy Todd, Billy Ray Johnson, Josh Rowland, John Webb, Tim Rowland, Wade Garrett, Devon Pierce and Clinton Johnson.
Gerald Wayne Pearson
Gerald Wayne Pearson age 90 of Brown Street, passed away at the VA Medical Center on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Gerald was born in Madison County to the late Carl Eli and Clara Pearson.
He was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church, lifetime member of the DAV, had been a member of the Waco Masonic Lodge #338 F&AM for over 60 years, and was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Viola Harrison Pearson, his children, by his first wife Juanita Rose Pearson, Richard (Teresa) Pearson, Paul (Beverly) Pearson, Gerald S. (Marlene) Pearson, Vickie (Joe) Lakes, and Charlotte (Ken) Thumb; his adopted son Arthur Lee Giles; three sisters, Sally Congleton, Roberta Pearson, Faye Carol Turpin; one brother Beverly Pearson; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
People who knew him will miss his beautiful smile. A Marine has gone home.

Harold K. Combs
MSgt Harold K. Combs, retired, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, Monday, December 5, 2016. At his home in Clinton, Utah. Harold was born January 3, 1959 in Biloxi, Mississippi, son of the late Harold K. Combs, Sr. And Joyce Rivell Combs Nelson. Harold was an Air Force brat but he and his parents called Kentucky home.
Harold was a veteran of Desert Storm/Shield and retired from the Air Force in 1998. He spent the last 28 years working at Hill Air Force Base as a serviceman and civilian. Harold loved the outdoors and had a deep passion for fly fishing. Harold also loved watching sports and spending time with friends and family. He was a pet lover and leaves behind his beloved Yeshi and Daisey.
Harold is survived by his wife, Kathy; mother Joyce Nelson; his son Andrew J. Combs (Allison); step-daughter Amy Ellis; brother Steven Combs (Nikki); 11 grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold K. Combs, Sr.; son Justin L. Combs and infant daughter Kristie L. Combs.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. A viewing will be held Friday, December 9, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services.
There will be services in Berea, Kentucky on Wednesday, December 14, at 1:00 pm with Bro. Jack Hall officiating at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
Wilma Jean Hensley
Wilma Jean Alcorn Hensley, age 67, died Saturday, December 03, 2016 at Saint Joseph-Berea. A Berea native she was born January 14, 1949 to the late John B. and Rebecca J. Ingram Alcorn.
Wilma loved to garden and cook and was a member of Cartersville Holiness church where she loved to sing praises to the Lord.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by three sons, Virgil Wayne, Shannon Ray, and Euell Gene Hensley. A sister, Betty Jane Alcorn Gullett also preceded her in death.
Ms. Hensley is survived by her daughter, Carrie Hensley of Berea, her brothers, John Wayne (Claudia) Alcorn, Donald (Bonnie) Alcorn, Bruce (Karlene) Alcorn all of Berea, her sisters, Patsy (Darrell) Isaacs of Berea and Connie (Larry) Lewis of Richmond. Her grandchildren, Brittany Hensley, Kelly Poynter Brumley, Charity Hensley and Autumn Hensley. She is also survived by her special friends and caretakers, Kathy Gullett, McKenna Gay, Lisa Hale, Jackie Alcorn, and Bela Alcorn along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 at the Cartersville Holiness Church with Bro. Donnie Pingleton, Bro. Darrell Isaacs and Bro. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 from 5-10 pm at the Church. Davis & Powell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mason Alexander age 76, husband of Clonzy Sparks Alexander, died Wednesday Dec. 7, 2016 at St. Joseph Berea Hospital. He was born in Madison County to the late Luther and Minnie Cates Alexander, and he was also preceded in death by a brother Ronald Alexander.
Mason was a self-employed stone mason.
Mason is survived by his wife Clonzy Alexander, his children Darrell (Rita) Alexander, Teresa Lynn Taylor, and Lisa Ann (Daniel) Lawson, and his grandchildren: Stephanie Nicole Alexander, Brian Stacy, Becky (Richard) Young, Adam Taylor, Cody Taylor, and Amy Thomas and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday Dec. 12, 2016 at 2 pm with Bro. Vester Alexander officiating, burial will be in Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 12-2 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.
Marion Ellis Kendrick
Marion Ellis Kendrick age 79 of Berea, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at UK Medical Center in Lexington. Marion was born in Garrard County to the late Henry Lee and Nola Sparks Kendrick.
He is retired from Nacco, a US Army veteran and attended Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by several siblings, Wayne Kendrick, Lonnie W. Kendrick, Thelma Harold, Pauline Murray; infant siblings Arnold and Helen Kendrick.
He is survived by his wife Sonja Hughes Kendrick; two brothers Noel Lee (Ruby) Kendrick and Delmer (Maxcine) Kendrick; and an uncle Leonard Sparks. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 2pm Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Kenny Davis and Rev. Randy McPheron officiating. Burial will follow in the Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm on Saturday.

Pauline Hylton Pigg
Pauline Hylton Pigg, 89, of Pine Street, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Pauline was born in Madison County to the late Clark and Julia Blair Hylton.
She was a homemaker and member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Curtis Pigg and eight siblings and their spouses Clifford (Laura) Hylton, Elihu (Marjorie) Hylton, Cecil (Betty) Hylton, Hiram J. (Lorraine) Hylton, Carlos Hylton, Dixie (Brocade) Holt, Myrtle (Ike) Mason and Gertrude (Ed) Gadd.
She is survived by her children Jerrold (Frances) Pigg and Dianna (Jason) Burnell; grandchildren Jeff (Lori) Pigg, Jennifer (Shawn) Huskey, Troy (Cindy) Burnell, Trina (David) Huston, and Amy (Corey Lilly) Burnell; great grandchildren Kaleigh Pigg, Shawna Huskey, Trinity Huskey, Faith Huskey, Chase Huston, Abbie Huston, J.C. Bingham, Julia Bingham, Ashley and Lauren Burnell; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Deannie Catron.
Funeral services will be 11am, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Dennis Hisle officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Hunter Nevada Shean
Hunter Nevada Shean, 19, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016, after arrival at Baptist Health Hospital – Richmond following a lengthy illness. He was born August 30, 1997, in Montgomery County, Kentucky.
He had attended the Estill County High School. Hunter attended Eastside Community Church and loved anything to do with Batman and the University of Kentucky basketball. He was also a wrestling fan.
Survivors include his mother, Glenna Rae Shean (Billy Neal) of Richmond; his father, Douglass Shean of Irvine; two brothers, Trey Shean of Richmond and Corey Shean of Winchester; one sister, Shanna Shean of Richmond; paternal grandmother, Elaine Gray and maternal grandparents, Raymond and Linda Goosey; two nephews, Kayden and Jayden Shean and one niece, Miya Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gordon Shean.
Funeral service for Hunter will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2016, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Mike Eckler and John Buckland officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

James William Moses
James William Moses, 89, of Richmond, son of the late Gilce Andrew Moses and Biddie Moses, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at the UK Medical Center. Born March 11, 1927 in Crummies Creek, Kentucky.
He was member of the Lexington Road Church of God. Mr. Moses was a retired minister of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) and an US Army veteran of World War II. He is preceded in death by his wife Bertha Grubbs Moses.
James William Moses is survived by three daughters; Pat Lloyd of Lexington, KY, Joan Hust of Mc Daniels, KY and Renee Huntzinger (Kevin) of Richmond, KY. He is also survived by two daughters-in-law; Luavadia Moses of Lexington, KY and Sheila Moses of Willisburg, KY along with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife Mr. Moses was also preceded in death by two sons; James Curtis Moses and Richard Wayne Moses, six brothers, Kim Curtis, Francis, Odell, Eugene, Clyde, and Buck Moses; and four sisters, Orduth “Aud” Sandifer, Georgia Massingill, Willa Mae Campbell, and Maxine Owens.
Services for James Moses will be held 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lexington Road Church of God with Phillip Payne, Glenn Daugherty and Bill Harrison officiating with burial to follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens. Elbert Dale Call
Elbert Dale Call, 63, of Richmond, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at his home. He was born September 17, 1953, in Paris, France, to Vernon and Arlette Dolin Call.
Dale was a QASAS, Department of Defense employee for the Blue Grass Army Depot. He was an Air Force veteran of every war and conflict since Vietnam, including Desert Shield, Bosnia, and Desert Storm. He was proud to represent and serve his country worldwide.
Surviving is his loving wife, Pamela Woods Call; sons, Derrick Call and David DePoister (wife, Deborah); daughters, Cassandra Kaetzel and Rebecca Minas (husband, Harry); three sisters, Kathy Hogg (George), Jacqueline Hildebrand (Clark), and Cindy Lattimer; seven grandchildren, one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 5 – 7 PM at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with the funeral service follow at 7:00 PM, with Pastor Stephen Woods officiating. Additional visitation and service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, handled by the Bartholomew Funeral Home, Valparaiso, Indiana. Burial will follow on Saturday at the Hanna Cemetery in Hanna, Indiana.

George William Robinson
George William Robinson, 90, of Richmond, son of the late George Clarence and Juanita Louise Thiede Robinson, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at The Terrace. Born September 6, 1926 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Dr. Robinson was the Emeritus Professor of History at Eastern Kentucky University where he taught from 1956-1991 and chaired the history department form 1966-1984. Prior to coming to EKU he taught at Washburn University of Topeka, KS, the University of Maryland Overseas Program and Wisconsin State University at Eau Claire. Dr. Robinson attended Oberlin College, Miami University of Ohio and the University of Wisconsin from which he received the B.S, M.S. and PHD Degrees. He was the Editor of two books; The Public Papers of Bert T. Combs and The Politics of Governor Bert T. Combs. In 1984 he received the Kentucky Historical Society’s award for The Best Article in the Register 1983; The Founding of Cumberland Falls State Park. George Robinson was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II from 1944-1946 and was active in the Naval Reserve from 1944-1975, retiring as Lieutenant Commander.
George William Robinson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma Tevis Robinson, one son; Lee Tevis Robinson (Kathy) of Las Vegas, Nevada and one daughter; Carol Ann Robinson of Lexington, KY along with two nephews and a niece.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Robinson was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Russell Robinson of Milwaukee, WI.

John Leslie Carter, 77, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, December 4th, 2016 at the Baptist Health Hospital – Richmond.
He was the husband of Isabelle White Carter of Richmond and the father of Alexandra Carter of Lexington. Other survivors include a brother, Charles Carter and a sister, Diane Johnson.

Lawrence Seth Smith
Lawrence Seth Smith, 34, of Irvine, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at his home. He was born on March 2, 1982, in Richmond to Charles and Dedra Stepp Smith.
He was a member of the Union City Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his grandmothers, Sharron Stepp and Emma Smith; two sisters, Amanda & Michele Smith; a nephew, Gabriel Dombrowski; four aunts, one uncle; as well as many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lawrence Stepp and Clyde Smith.

Ella Renee Lear was born sleeping on December 4, 2016 at 2:17 PM at Baptist Health in Richmond.
Ella is survived by her parents: Heather and Dustin Lear of Brodhead; her sister: Aidann and her brother: Colten; grandparents: Dale and Marlene Miller of Roundstone, Robin Smith of Brodhead and JR Lear of Brodhead; aunts and uncles: Amanda and Stephen Madden of Berea, Josh and September Miller of Roundstone and Logan Lear of Brodhead; first cousins: Austin, Anna and Taigan; great grandparents: Carolyn Brandenburg and Eugene of Roundstone, Leonard Miller of Brindle Ridge and Edith Thomason Whitaker of Mt. Vernon. Several other cousins and great aunts and uncles also survive.
Ella was preceded in death by great grandparents: AB Thomason, Oval Gene Mays and LouElla Miller.

James Lewell Reynolds
James Lewell Reynolds, 83, passed away Wednesday, December 7th, 2106 at Baptist Health in Richmond KY. Mr. Reynolds was a native of Arkansas, a son of the late Wilburn and Tressie Reynolds.
He was a member of the Pineola Baptist Church, and a retired brick mason.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Teresa Francisco; a son-in-law Ron Profitt; a daughter-in-law Debbie Reynolds; his grandson James E. Reynolds; and a brother Dub Reynolds.
Survivors include his wife Jan Reynolds; his sons Ray (Milly) Moses, Doug Reynolds, Danny Reynolds, Verl Reynolds; his daughters Pam Stone, Cherish Reynolds, Teresa Reynolds, Ruth Profitt, Connie Daniels; his sisters Agnes and Annie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Stanley Walling Jr.
Stanley Walling Jr., age 64, of White Oak Road in Irvine passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center following a long illness. He was born March 1, 1952 in Madison County and was the son of the late Stanley Benjamin and Pearl Wiseman Walling.
He was a truck driver and a member of the White Oak Church of God. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
He is survived by His wife: Teresa Baker Walling, 1 Daughter: Melissa Kaye Walling, 1 Son: Benjamin Ray Walling & wife, Elizabeth, 1 Brother: Donnell Walling all of Estill Co. and 6 Grandchildren: Austin Wells, Blair Walling, Stephen Wells, Jessalynn Wells, Nolan Walling and Jaxson Hardy.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Elizabeth Wise and Elwanda Walling.

Bessie Marie Caldwell
Bessie Marie Reed Caldwell, age 76, of Hickory Road in Stanton, passed away Wednesday, December 7th, at the Owsley County Health Care Center, following a long illness. She was born January 6, 1940, in Richmond, KY, a daughter of the late Riley Reed and Jesse Pitman Reed Sparks.
She had lived in Estill County most of her life and was a member of the Roadside Mission Church.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Eugene Caldwell.
She is survived by 2 Sons: Micky Reed of Powell Co., Rick Bryant of Alabama, A Sister: Katherine Barker of Indiana, 1 Brother: Langley Reed of Indiana, 8 Grandchildren and Several Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 Sons: Jimmy McIntosh, Charles Reed; 3 Sisters: Betty Begley, Frieda Stilman, Mary Ashcraft; 4 Brothers: Tracy, Charles Henry, Jim, and Ray Reed.

Connie Sue Bingham
Connie Sue Bingham was born October 22, 1949 in Manchester, KY and departed this life Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 67 years of age. She was the daughter of late Amos & Anna (Simpson) Vickers.
Connie is survived by her husband, Leon Bingham; by three children, Kelvin & Melony Bingham, Brent & Cynthia Bingham and Travis & Jennifer Bingham all of Tyner. She is also survived by four siblings, Tony & Donna Vickers, Mickey & Gail Vickers, Linda Truett & Marsha Farmer all of Tyner. Connie was blessed with seven grandchildren, Ashely McWhorter, Darian Bond, Seth Bingham, Kendra Ward, Zach Bingham, Austin Bingham and Aydan Bingham and by four great grandchildren, Lane & Leah McWhorter, Kenna Bond and Brentley Ward.
In addition to her parents, Connie was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Laura-Beth Bingham.
Connie enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, always thinking of others first. “To know her was to love her.” She was a member of the Blackwater Baptist Church.

Don Spurlock was born February 12, 1931 in Jackson County and departed this Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 85 years of age. He was the son of the late John & Reba (Davis) Spurlock.
Don is survived by his wife Lennie Faye Spurlock of Richmond by a daughter, Trish Spurlock of Lexington and by a half-brother, Paul Douglas Spurlock.
In addition to his parents, Don was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Spurlock.
Don was a member of the Durbin Memorial Baptist Church in Fayette County and was a veteran of the United States Marines having served in the Korean War.
