Cody Austin Dittman
Cody Austin Dittman age 24 of Berea, passed away Sunday December 28, 2014. Cody was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
He was a 2010 graduate of Berea Community High School and was employed in the manufacturing industry. He was a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard, assigned as an Indirect Fire Infantryman.
He is survived by his parents Patricia (Frank) Tipton and Martin (Vicki) Dittman, one brother Martin L. Dittman III, one half-brother Micah H. Dittman, two step brothers Jacob Tipton and Christopher Tipton, his grandmother Flora Joyce Dittman and several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Hobert and Edna C. VanWinkle and Martin Dittman Sr.
Full military funeral honors will be 2 pm Sunday January 4, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Chaplain Joshua Stine officiating. Burial will follow in the Cates Cemetery in Berea. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.
Joyce Hanser Million
Joyce Hanser Million passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 after a brief illness in Raleigh, NC. Joyce was born in Shelbyville, KY on August 29, 1927.
Joyce attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. She met her husband, Glenn Wagers Million, at EKU and were married December 22, 1946. After Glenn’s graduation from EKU in 1950 and commission in the US Army, Joyce and Glenn traveled the world from post to post for 28 years. She was the consummate Army officer’s wife. Upon Glenn’s retirement from the Army in in 1978, Joyce and Glenn retired in Fairfax Station, Va and then back to Richmond, Ky. Joyce moved to Raleigh in 2008. Joyce was a member of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church of Raleigh and the First Christian Church of Richmond, Ky when she lived there. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Christian Womens Fellowship in Raleigh. She enjoyed traveling the world, gardening, and had a thirst for enjoying life.
Joyce was preceded in passing by her husband of 58 years, Glenn Wagers Million.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Garnett & Linda Million of Calabash, NC; her son and daughter in law, Phillip & Geralyn Million of Portales, NM; her son and daughter in law, Bruce & Kathy Million of Raleigh; four beloved grandchildren: Katherine Million, Bryant Million, Glenn Million, Clay Million; and step grandson Greg Brewer.
Graveside service for Mrs. Million will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Richmond Cemetery with Dr. Glenn Birkett officiating.

Mary Ann Becknell
Mary Ann Becknell, age 79, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away December 24, 2014. She was born June 14, 1935, in Waco, Kentucky, to Clavis and Viola Tribble, who preceded her in death.
On October 16, 1953, she married John Becknell; he preceded her in death November 8, 1999.
Mary Ann was a directory assistance operator for Cincinnati Bell until her retirement.
She is survived by: her children, Karen (Chuck) Broughton, Gary (Nadine) Becknell and John (Cindy) Becknell ; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Paige, and Racheal; siblings, Charles (Linda) Tribble and Nancy Fryer; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Betty Jean) Becknell.
Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio 45014. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Danny Rollins officiating. Burial will follow at noon Tuesday at Flatwoods Cemetery, Waco, Ky.

Sarah Evelyn Settles
Sarah Evelyn Settles of Berea, Ky., was born to the late George Matthews and Flora Burns Matthews on Sept. 1, 1929. She went to meet the Lord on Dec. 26, 2014.
Sarah was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Virgil “Shorty” Settles; two daughters, Shirley Irvin and Betty Payton; one son, Dallas Settles; one stepson, Buddy Settles; a grandson, James Irvin; and three brothers, Cecil, Glendon and Leeroy Matthews.
Sarah is survived by: four children, Wanda (Roger) Ginter of Miamisburg, Ohio, Kay (Frank) Sparks of Richmond Ky., David (Lori) Settles of Germantown, Ohio, Glenn Settles of Berea, Ky., a stepdaughter, Shirley (Ralph) Cyrus of Chillicothe, Ohio, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Bro. Clyde Coffey and Bro. Ralph Cyrus officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ross Sparks, Bradley Ginter, Lester Sparks, Michael Settles, Brandon Tyree and Michael Matthews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Brush and Scott Colberson.
Burial will be at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
David Lee Prater
Pastor David Lee Prater, 78, formerly of Richmond, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Son of the late Boyd and Blanche (Babb) Prater, he was born October 29, 1936, in Jenkins, Kentucky.
He married the love of his life, Martha (Wolfe) Prater on August 7, 1964, in Findlay Ohio.
In addition to his loving wife Martha, David is survived by: daughters Michelle Henrickson (Kevin) of Chicago, Ill.; Jennifer Bergey (Michael) of Northumberland, Pa; son-in-law Douglas Rex of Fishers, Ind.; grandchildren Jeff, Korinne, Ki, Caleb, Lauren, Audrey, Lexi and Ellie; mother-in-law Nellie Wolfe, brothers John Prater, James Prater and Dan Prater; sister Carol Lindon; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was welcomed into Heaven by: his daughter Melissa; grandson Tyler Michael; his brother Charles; parents Boyd and Blanche Prater; and father-in law Carl Wolfe.
David dedicated his life to living out two key principles: loving God and loving others. He pastored Richmond’s First Church of the Nazarene from 1974-1981. He later returned to the area when he served the Eastern Kentucky District Church of the Nazarene as District Superintendent from 1994-2003. Even after retiring, David continued his ministry of caring for others. He continued to speak words of love and encouragement to those around him for the rest of his days. That legacy will be carried on by the countless lives that he touched.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Montandon, Pa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until his 11 a.m. service at the church. His nephew, Pastor Greg McDonald, with Pastor David Martino with officiate. Burial will follow at Beaver Run Mennonite Cemetery in rural Turbotville, Pa.

Oleta Mae Smith Lawson
Oleta Mae Smith Lawson, 85, of Richmond, the widow of John C. Lawson, Jr., passed away Sunday morning, September 21, 2014, at her home. Born June 12, 1929, at Franklin, Kentucky, in Simpson County, she was the daughter of Irvin Levi Smith and Effie Mae Nealy Smith, both of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and also attended Vanderbilt University. Mrs. Lawson was a retired elementary school music teacher, having served in Estill County for a number of years.
Survivors include: her sons, John C. Lawson III of Lexington and Robert Smith Lawson of Richmond; her granddaughter, Kristin Nicole Lawson of Indianapolis; and her daughter-in-law, Janie Lawson of Lexington.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, one daughter, Debbie Lawson, and a brother, Eldon Smith.
The memorial service for Mrs. Lawson will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Curtis Christian officiating.
Thursie Ellen Gibson
Thursie Ellen Gibson 86 of Ellis Street passed away Tuesday December 30, 2014 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville. Thursie was born in Cartersville, KY to the late Frank and Rachel Day Wylie.
She was a homemaker and member of the Berea Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Gibson, one daughter Rebecca Bingham, one son Paul Gibson and one brother Alfred Wylie.
She is survived by her daughters Ramona Gibson and Eunice Willis, five grandchildren Arthur Gibson, Rebecca Gibson, Ryan Willis, Michelle Willis and Susan Daniels, ten great grandchildren, two brothers Sherman Wylie, Daniel Wylie and two sisters Evelyn Harrison and Phoebe McNeeley.
Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday January 6, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Bro. Levi Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Leona Carol Stewart
Leona Carol Stewart was welcomed in our Lord Jesus Christ’s loving arms, to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 28, 2014. Leona passed away at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Leona was born on November 3, 1948 in Berea, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Pete and Frances McKinney of Berea.
She was also predeceased by her brother Woody McKinney and very dear friend Eileen Lanham, and her loving mother-in-law Vola Hutson Stewart.
Leona is survived by her loving and very devoted husband Jeb “Jerry” Stewart, a loving special ‘sister’ friend Sophia Fletcher of Richmond and also a sister-in-law Carol McKinney of New Albany, Indiana.
Leona was retired from Peoples’ Bank in Berea, Kentucky, and she was a cat lover but she loved all animals and loved being outdoors camping and fishing with her husband. She, Jeb and Vola walked the Cumberland Mountain Trail together. Leona was a member of the Berea Professional Womens Club and a member of the Gloryland Baptist Church.
Visitation will be at Lakes Funeral Home Berea Thursday from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Cecil Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Larry James Kirby
Larry James Kirby, 54, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away December 27, 2014 in Palm Coast, Florida where he was residing with his wife Karen Gabriel Kirby. He was born in Berea, Kentucky to Etta Gadd Kirby and the late Eric J. Kirby.
He attended Greenfield Central High School and has lived in Greenfield and Zionsville, Indiana. He was a construction supervisor in Indianapolis and other states in the Midwest.
In addition to his father he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Robert Adams.
He is survived by his wife Karen Kirby, his mother Etta Kirby and one sister Sharon Kirby Adams.
Funeral services will be 12 pm Saturday January 3, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11am-12pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Kenny Lee McKinney
Kenny Lee McKinney, 59, of Berea, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was a London, Kentucky native born May 18, 1955, son of the late Archie Lee McKinney and the late Etta Mae Powell McKinney Weaver.
He was a former auto parts production factory employee, former resident of Lexington and resident of Berea the past 8 years.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie French McKinney; 1 daughter, Melissa Edwards; 3 sisters, Joann Myers, Judy Brown, Teresa Shackleford; 3 grandchildren Morgan, Hunter, and Dakota; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Chelsea Carroll Harnack
Chelsea Carroll Harnack, 22, died on Thursday, January 1, 2015 in Richmond, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Paula Kopacz and H. Andy Harnack. Born on July 14, 1992 in Madison County.
She attended Xavier University in Ohio and Eastern Kentucky University, Chelsea worked part time at Logans in Lexington, Kentucky. She attended the First Baptist Church on Francis Street as well as St. Mark Catholic Church. Growing up she was very active in Track and Field winning a State Championship and enjoyed playing the piano.
Survivors include her mother, Paula Kopacz and her father, H. Andy Harnack; maternal grandmother Doris M. Kopacz; an uncle, Fredrick Kopacz (Eva); several half-brothers, half-sisters, cousins and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Richmond, Kentucky. A fellowship reception will immediately follow the memorial service and all are encouraged and welcome to attend the reception.
In lieu of flowers donations are recommended the Humane Society.
Evelyn Sunshine Hall
Evelyn Sunshine Hall, 71, of Richmond, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at Baptist Health – Lexington. She was born September 23, 1943, in Georgetown, Kentucky to William and Jessie Renaker Williamson, both of whom preceded her in death.
Evelyn was a retired food service worker at Eastern Kentucky University and a member of Calvary Apostolic Church.
She loved to talk with and minister to everyone and was everyone’s moral compass. Madison County will greatly miss her as she never met a stranger. She was a wonderful lady and loved by all!
She was the wife of Carl T. Hall of Richmond and other survivors include one daughter, Teresa White (Paul) of Richmond; one son, Duane Hall of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; two brothers, Bill and Russell Williamson; two grandchildren, Clinton and Ci Ci Hall; two great grandchildren, Cullen Jax and Holly Kate.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Ammons, Irene Stephens, and Betty May Williamson; and two brothers, Leroy and Bobby Williamson.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Ron Frohardt and Bro. Alan Peevler officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, in Jessamine County. Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Edna Lee Wall
Edna Lee Wall, 93, of Richmond, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Richmond Health & Rehab – Madison Manor. She was born January 22, 1921, in Madison County, to Claude Ray and Alma Lilly Taylor Wall, both of whom preceded her in death.
Miss Wall was a retired Westinghouse employee and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one brother, Jefferson Webb Wall and one sister May Taylor Tudor, both of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Alva Leslie Young and three brothers, Walker J., Leon, and Charles Wall.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Scott Guiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Peter Joseph Creighton
Peter Joseph Creighton, 83, of Richmond, died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at his home. He was born September 23, 1931, in Glenridge, New Jersey to the late Reginald A. and Dorothy Carey Creighton.
He earned his BS at the Newark College of Engineering and his Masters at the Colorado School of Mines and worked as a chemical engineer for Exxon Research and Engineering for 29 years. He worked several overseas projects and earned three patents while working for Exxon. After that he pursued and received his PHD in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University and became a Professor at Eastern Kentucky University. Dr. Creighton taught for 20 years in several departments at EKU including Math and Environmental Sciences. He also volunteered his time to teach sciences at St. Mark Catholic School.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth J. “Bonnie” DeWolf Creighton of Richmond; two daughters, Kim Jean Creighton of Lexington and Cory Jean Clark of Richmond; one son, Rocky Joseph Creighton of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Williams (Bob) of Ocean Pines, Maryland; one brother Reginald A. Creighton (Sa’Lome) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; four grandchildren, Lauren C. Crispino (Billy) of Rockaway, New Jersey, Ryan E. Fletcher of Denver, Colorado, Alexandria B. and Donovan J. “DJ” Creighton, both of Cincinnati, Ohio and one great-granddaughter, Avery Rose Crispino. He is also survived by his good friend, Dr. Gary Brown.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2014, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Richmond followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. that day. Father Jim Sichko will officiate the service. Interment will be later in a family lot at East Springfield Cemetery, in East Springfield, Pennsylvania.

Clifford Leon Christman Sr
Clifford Leon Christman Sr. 73, passed away Friday evening at Baptist Health in Richmond. Mr. Christman was born on November 27, 1941 in Sardinia, Ohio, the son of the late Harry and Alta May Smith Christman.
He was a retired welder for the Abex Company and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife: Elaine Christman; four sons: Pastor Cliff Christman (Tracy), Shane Christman (Jennifer), Jack Christman (Katrina) and Clifford Andrew Christman (Betty); three daughters: Theresa Christman, Crystal Smith (David) and Cathy Robinson (Aaron); one step-son: Jason Burton; three brothers: Robert Christman (Tina), Ron Christman and James Christman; three sisters: Helen Aronhalt, Bernice Hardy, and Jane McMillan (David); nineteen grandchildren: Bobby Blackburn Jr. (Kelsey), Jennifer Blackburn, Hunter Kuzak, Christopher Christman (Ashley), Sean Christman (Jessica), Jacob Christman, Isaiah Christman, Ella Christman, Seth Christman, Preston Christman, Tyler Christman, Brayden Christman, Alexis Robinson, Paisley Robinson, Dalton Smith, Karissa Smith, Jonathon Christman, Elizabeth Christman and Kristina Christman; four great-grandchildren: Luke and Lauryn Blackburn and Axel and Diesel Christman and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at The Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 2300 Lexington Road, with his son, Pastor Cliff Christman officiating. Burial will follow in the Christman Family Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Tuesday at the Church.

Kimberly Renee Moore
Kimberly Renee Moore, 50, of Richmond, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014. Kimberly, the daughter of James “Buster” Jones and Marion Mallory, was born on September 15, 1964 in Harlan, Kentucky.
She had been attending the National College of Business. She was a very loving, family oriented lady who enjoyed working with crafts.
On October 20, 1989, Kimberly united in marriage to Toney Moore who survives. She is also survived by: two sons: Terry Mallory and Toney Moore, Jr.; her daughter: Whitney (Brandon) Smith, all of Richmond; three brothers: Peter (Guisey) Mallory, Tony Mallory and Ronnie Tinsley; three sisters: Lolita (Richard) Smothers, Molly Mallory and Sharon (Michael) Sampene; two grandchildren: Yazmine Smith and Bryce Smith; three step-brothers: Bruce (Sharon) Cosby, Malcolm (Shirley) Cosby and Chris Cosby and her step sister: Quata Belton.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother: Jeff Belton.

Karen Ann Burton
Karen Ann Burton, 52, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the UK Chandler Medical Center, Lexington, KY. Karen, the daughter of Robert Ray Burton and the late Jean Stocker Burton was born March 7, 1962, in Madison County, KY.
Karen was a floral designer who had worked locally at the Madison Flower Shop with her family and later was a designer at the Jackson Florist of Covington, KY.
Survivors include her father, Robert “Bobby” Burton, of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Dottye Burton; two nieces, Jeanna and Amanda Burton, and her aunts, Nancy Johnson, Judy Martin (Blaine), Phyllis Riglesburger, and Roberta Means.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Rob Burton.

Deloris Marlene Simpson Kelly, 65, of West Walnut Street, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Baptist Health in Richmond. Mrs. Kelly, the daughter of the late William “Jim” Simpson and Martha Frances Long Sexton, was born in Madison County on July 28, 1949.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading. She was a wonderful lady who loved her family.
Survivors include: her husband, Connie Kelly; two sons: Russell (Karen) Jones and Bruce (Sherie) Jones, all of Richmond; her brother: Jimmy (Bonnie) Simpson; her sister: Brenda (Lewis) Hale; four grandchildren: Christopher Jones, Brandy Jones, Victoria Jones and Frank Jones and one great granddaughter: Elizabeth.

John Claude Elliston
John Claude Elliston, 71, of Waco, husband of Faye Elliston, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 4:30 PM at his home. He was born July 26, 1943 in Lawrenceburg, Ky., to the late Charles Allen and Hazel Elizabeth Dunavan Elliston.
He was well known for installing floor coverings and was owner of Elliston Carpet.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Elliston and Paul (Tinker) Elliston and one son, Johnny Elliston.
Other survivors include one brother, Bill Elliston; two children, Johnathan Elliston, of Waco and Tina Elliston, of Frankfort; three step-children, Micheal D. Roberts, Regina Roberts and Christopher D. Roberts; seven grandsons, Jeremy Roberts, Carrington Roberts, Channing Roberts, Makarious Roberts, Christopher Roberts and Christian Roberts and Dakota Begley; two granddaughters, Emily Elliston and Delresha Hocker; one daughter-in-law, Tammy Hocker Roberts and a host of nieces, nephews and six great-grandchildren; a special friend, Bro. Rickey Winkler.
