On Saturday, Dec. 14, Kyle Meadows and Tisa McGraw will perform holiday music on hammer dulcimer and harp in informal sets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
Both Meadows and McGraw have been playing some type of music for most of their lives. Born in North Carolina, Meadows began his career in music as a child, learning to play the piano by ear. As a teenager, he taught himself how to play the hammer dulcimer and has been playing ever since. As a full-time musician for the past 20 years, Meadows has appeared on stage with such musicians and groups as Mark O’Conner, Homer Ledford and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
Tisa McGraw, of Cincinnati, also began playing the piano as a small child. She played electric bass with a rock ‘n’ roll band for many years before turning to the world of harp music. She has been playing the Celtic harp for 12 years, and her playing is informed by decades of massage therapy practice and teaching.
Tisa and Kyle perform for the Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund and have been performing together for six years for a large variety of events, from weddings and receptions to festivals, bookstores, coffeehouses and concert halls.
Musical recordings by Meadows and McGraw are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily, year-round, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the cafe is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
