WHAT: ‘Shop with a Trooper’ Shopping Event
WHEN: Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: The Richmond and Stanford Wal-Marts.
WHO: Kentucky State Police Post 7, Richmond
WHY: The Kentucky State Police collects donations of money and toys each year for less than fortunate children in the post area. The program is called “Shop with a Trooper” and is made up of two separate parts.
The first gives children who would not have anything for Christmas the chance to spend a few hours with a Trooper shopping for presents. The target ages for the children who are included in the shopping portion of the program are between 5 and 12. That age has been selected because we believe this will make a lasting impression on the child and provide a personal contact with a trooper. There are currently 140 children listed on the “Shop with a Trooper” registry and each child is allowed $115 to spend on presents and clothing for themselves.
The second provides a stockings and presents stuffed with items to other children who are not age appropriate for the shopping event.
The State Police will also be providing breakfast and a session with Santa prior to the shopping. Richmond shoppers will be meeting at the Richmond Fire Station #3, located at 4401 Kit Carson Drive beginning at 10:00 a.m. Stanford shoppers will be meeting at the Lincoln County Fire Station #1, located at 807 Lancaster Road beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Kentucky State Police Post 7 serves the counties of Boyle, Clark, Estill, Garrard, Jackson, Jessamine, Lee, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, and Owsley.
