Ralph Rose age 90, widower of Dorothy Reece Rose, died Thursday Aug. 29, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond with his daughter by his side. Ralph was a native of Jackson County and Sand Gap, he was born to the late Clark and Vesta Bell Cain Rose.
Ralph was a World War II veteran of the US Army and a member of the Sand Gap Baptist Church. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his son Donald Lee Rose, his siblings John Rose, Jim Rose, Janie Lainhart, Marie Rose, and Alpha Rose.
Ralph is survived by his daughter Reponzia Rose-Staggs of Berea, and his brother in Christ Joe Rose.
Funeral services will be 2pm Monday Sept. 2, 2013 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Eugene Gentry and Bro. Clyde Coffey officiating, burial will be in the Reece Cemetery at Sand Gap. Visitation will be Sunday Sept. 1, 2013 from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Rose, Billy Payne, Howard Smith, Hershel Williams, Ronald Richardson, and Lemuel Richardson.
Connie Stephens age 54, wife of Kenny Stephens of Berea, died Monday August 26, 2013 in Lexington KY. Connie had been a Wal Mart employee and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She is the daughter of Lonnie Abrams of Richmond and Aline Chasteen Abrams of Berea.
Connie is also survived by her children: Jamie (Aaron) Banther of Virginia Beach, VA, and Dustin Hazelwood of Berea, her sister Tonia (Richard) Tillery of Berea, her grandchildren Keenan Banther and Elijah Banther, her niece Briana (Joseph) Parker and nephew Austin Tillery, and niece Payton Damrell.
Funeral services will be Thursday Aug. 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Davis and Bro. Marshall Abrams officiating. Burial will be in the Abney-Macedonia Cemetery at Scaffold Cane. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.

John A. Pettibone
John A. (Jack) Pettibone, age 81, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at his home in Lexington. He was born in Lakeside, Ohio to the late Robert Lloyd and Eunice Bahs Pettibone.
Mr. Pettibone was a retired employee of Goodyear Aerospace after 35 years of service. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Fayette Seed and the Tates Creek Golf Course. He was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. Jack enjoyed golfing, gardening and traveling.
Mr. Pettibone is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Jane Price Pettibone of Lexington; daughters: Linda (Rick) Davis of Florence, KY, Kara Stacy of Richmond, KY, Barbara (Sam) Moore of Burlington, NC; son John C. Pettibone of Lexington; grandchildren: Amanda Davis of New York City, Robert Davis of Florence KY, and Megan Bosse of Lexington; sister: Carol Mierau of Stow, Ohio; brother: Robert (Karen) Pettibone of Greensboro, Georgia; aunt, Ann Pettibone of Parma Heights, Ohio. 3 nephews and 2 nieces also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Pettibone will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1000 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, KY with Pastor Andy Rutrough officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Private burial will be in the Berea Cemetery.

Robert D. Taylor
Robert D. Taylor, 93, of Kirksville, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond. He was born August 5, 1920, in Richmond, Kentucky, to the late D. and Gertrude (Ross) Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Frances (Tussey) Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a landowner and farmer, a member of Kirksville Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.
Survivors include: one daughter, Ann T. Anderson (Raymond) of Richmond; one son, Robert T. Taylor (Jeanna) of Richmond; four grandchildren, Mark Turpin (Denise), Darrin Turpin (Kim), ReJeanna Patterson (Michael) and Eric Taylor; eight great-grandchildren, Clay, Hannah and Grace Turpin, Caleb and Conner Patterson, and Colton, Caiden and Riley Taylor.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Woodson Taylor, and one sister, Dorothy Broaddus.
Funeral service for Mr. Taylor will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Chad Broaddus officiating, assisted by Bro. Butch Pennington. Burial with military honors will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Biggs Murrell, 64, passed away Wednesday evening, August 28, 2013 at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. She was born March 8, 1949, in Owsley County and was a retired employee of the University of Kentucky.
She enjoyed church and singing in the choir and had recently been attending Grace Chapel Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include: two children, Raymond Biggs (Letisha) and Thelma “Loudie” Ramsey (Steve); her father, Lester Hall; three brothers, Gary Mullins (Valerie), Larry Mullins (Regina) and Darrell Mullins; three sisters, Laura Burden (Harold), Darlene Mullins (Charles Watts) and Brenda Carol Mullins; five grandchildren, Clifford Douglas Biggs, Stephen Dusten Ramsey (Ashley), David Allen Ramsey, Danielle Christine Ramsey and Chelsea Dae Ramsey; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Isabel Ramsey, Christiana Celine Ramsey and Avelyn Grace Ramsey; a special friend, Wanda Masters; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Mullins.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Masters and Dr. Stan Schilffarth officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery of Waco. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday evening at the Funeral Home.

Charlie Isaacs, age 98, of Sweetwater Road in Rockcastle County passed away at his home ednesday, August 28, 2013. He was born in Rockcastle County to the late Albert Henry and Sara Smith Isaacs.
A self-employed farmer and had a passion for his work. He was a member and a deacon at Valley Baptist Church and formerly was a Mason.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Annie Powell Isaacs; one son, Ralph Isaacs and his wife Jean; three brothers, Oscar, Steve and Wade; three sisters, Dorothy, Delphia and Stella; two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
He is survived by 11 children: Raymond (Phyllis) Isaacs, Luther (Nancy) Isaacs, Leroy (Becky) Isaacs, Herbert (Dora) Isaacs, Mary (Jerry) Watkins, Sarah Neeley, Barbara (Bill) Turner, Hobert (Rebecca) Isaacs, Janet Vaughn, Joyce (Mike) Thompson and James Isaacs. Three sisters, Martha Hurley, Jean Madden and Helen Hisle; 34 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at Valley Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Lakes, Bro. Tony Shelton and Bro. Bobby Turner officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening after 4 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow in the Isaacs Cemetery in Rockcastle County.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Julie Hazlett Bell
Julie Hazlett Bell, 39, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away August 28, 2013 at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born October 23, 1973, she was the daughter of Marilyn Kouns and the late G. Tom Hazlett and the sister of Thom Hazlett.
She graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in ’91, and Eastern Kentucky University in ’99, with her undergraduate degree, and ’07 with a master’s degree. Julie was a special education teacher and leader for the past 12 years at Waco Elementary School.
She has the love of countless friends with her on her journey.
Julie had always been a fierce advocate for her family’s, friends’ and students’ well-being. She had her father’s outgoing personality with a great sense of humor and her mother’s tireless love and ability to put others’ needs above her own. She was a fun-loving mother who was dedicated to her children.
Julie is survived by: her mother, Marilyn Hazlett; brother, Thom Hazlett; husband, Chris Bell; and children, Alivia and Ryan.
A memorial service will be conducted at Oldham Roberts & Powell 5 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, with Che Haselwood officiating.

Nannie Elizabeth Webb
Nannie “Mamie” Elizabeth Webb age 68, widow of E Marshall Webb, died Tuesday August 27, 2013. Nannie was born in Madison County to the late Noil Stewart and Altie Whittemore Stewart, she was a homemaker and attended church at the Revival Tabernacle Church in Richmond.
Nannie is survived by her children: Teresa Henderson, Conley Jones, Naomi (Chris) Campbell, and Lisa Jones, her siblings Henry (Louenza) Stewart, Vernon (Wanda) Stewart, and Noil (Judy) Stewart Jr., and numerous grandchildren.
Nannie was preceded in death by her brother Moss Stewart and sisters Helen Murphy and Rozella Harris.
Funeral services will be Friday 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. David Lamb officiating, burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.

Keith Edward Oeffinger
Mr. Keith Edward Oeffinger, age 36, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on January 7, 1977, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the loving son of, William Carl “Bill” Oeffinger, who preceded him in death, and Judy (Burch) Oeffinger Cole.
He was raised in Vevay, Ind., where in 1995 he graduated from Switzerland County High School.
Keith resided eight years in Richmond, Ky., where in 2003 he earned his bachelor of science degree in asset protection from Eastern Kentucky University. He began his career as a shift manager for Walmart in Richmond.
Keith was united in marriage on June 29, 2002, in Vevay, Ind., to Sarah Ann Kinman, and to this union arrived three daughters, Ariel, Kierstan & Terra. They are expecting their fourth daughter in December, Leilah Oeffinger.
Keith & Sarah shared 11 loving years together until his death. Keith was employed as a shift manager & trouble shooter for Walmart for 15 years, in Madison & Lawrenceburg, Ind., & Paris, Ky.
Keith loved his wife & kids more than anything. He will be remembered for being a devoted husband, father, son & brother. Keith died 2:19 a.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Ind.
Keith will be missed by: his loving wife of 11 years, Sarah Ann (Kinman) Oeffinger; daughters Ariel LeeAnn Oeffinger, Kierstan Elizabeth Oeffinger, Terra Katherine Oeffinger, all of Vevay, Ind; unborn daughter Leilah Oeffinger; mother & stepfather Judy (Burch) Oeffinger Cole & George Cole of Madison, Ind.; brothers Adam Wayne Oeffinger of Madison, Ind., William Paul Oeffinger of Hanover, Ind., Christopher Carl Oeffinger of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister Kimberly Sue Oeffinger of Vevay, Ind.; nephew Caleb; nieces Brenna, Mercedes, Sierra, McKayla, Kristina & Jillian; several aunts & uncles.
He was preceded in death by: his father, William Carl “Bill” Oeffinger; grandparents Christopher & Dorothy Burch, Carl & Bertha Oeffinger.

Ruth A. McCann
Ruth A. McCann, 74, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, evening, August 24, 2013 at Baptist Health-Richmond, after a brief illness. She was born February 22, 1939, in Nicholasville, Kentucky, the only daughter of Wilburn and Pearl Lavender McCann, both of whom preceded her in death.
Ruth was a retired teacher & educator, having taught in the Shelby County Public Schools, Model Laboratory School and Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Education.
She was a long-time member of the National Business Educators Association and a founding member of the Richmond Choral Society. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, of Richmond, where she had recently served as deacon.
Ruth is survived by a brother, Roland (Wilma) McCann, of Fayetteville, GA; a special niece, Allyson O’Neill, and great-niece, Julia, both of Carmel, IN; and long-time friends and caregivers: Mark & Tricia Davis, Hank & Linda Everman, Donna Aldridge, and Kim Brinson. Ruth is also survived by her loving canine companion, Tanner, and many other friends, relatives and colleagues.
Ruth’s family and friends would like to thank Dr. Michael Horn and his staff, along with the doctors and staff of the ICU at Baptist Health-Richmond, for their kind and compassionate care during her final days.
Service for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Curtis Christian officiating. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Private interment will be at a later date.

Jeanne Allen, 79, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.
After 30 years in the medical field, she retired as office manager for Dr. Randy Allen in 1996 and then the Instant Care Center in 2010.
Her husband, Walter Allen, preceded her in death in August, 2000.
She is survived by: one daughter, Linda (James Granville) Bryant of Richmond; a son, Steve Allen; and a very special granddaughter, Courtney Allen of Richmond; another son, Mike Allen of Richmond; two brothers, Phillip and Joseph Stroup of Ohio; and a special heart-sister, Vestal (Clayton) Gross of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her mother, Hazel (Burdsall) Stroup of Ohio; and special grandparents, William and Macie Burdsall of Ohio.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Berea.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, prior to the 7 p.m. funeral at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Ed McCurley officiating.

Claude Agee Jr.
Claude Agee Jr., 80, of Richmond, Kentucky passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky at the Western State Nursing Facility. He was born on March 17, 1933 in Madison County to the late Claude and Theresa Jean Bowling Agee.
He was retired farmer and construction worker, and quarry machine operator. Claude was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Flossie Tudor Agee; three sons Robert Ray Agee (significant other Betty Adams), Tommy Dean Agee and Ricky Lee Agee all of Berea, KY; two daughters, Barbara Jean Agee Bowlin and Carol Sue Agee Sowder both of Berea, KY; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Sue Agee Rose, Teresa Jean Bowlin and Jonathan David Sowder all of Berea, KY; three great grandchildren, Brandon Wynn, Rex Rose and Jay Rose all of Berea, KY; one sister in law Fannie Agee. Preceded in death by one grandchild, Christopher Lee Lamb; five brothers, Orville, Wilbert, Hulyn Clay, Carl and Frank Agee; five sisters, Margaret Brinegar, Florine Adams, Ann Evelyn Agee Gladys Agee and Helen Agee.

Hazel VanWinkle Baker
Mrs. Hazel VanWinkle Baker, age 74 of Orlando, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital. She was born in Rockcastle County, KY on Sep. 9, 1938 the daughter of Joe and Ruth Walton VanWinkle. She was a homemaker and a member of the McNew Chapel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jesse Baker; a son, Glen Edward Baker of Orlando; a daughter, Edith Peterkin of Richmond; two brothers, William Henry VanWinkle and Bennett VanWinkle, both of Orlando; and four sisters, Elizabeth Baker of Mt. Vernon, Christine Couch of Ohio, and Barbara Ballinger and Sarah Jane Hammond, both of Berea. Also surviving are five grandchildren, A.J. Peterkin, Nikki Peterkin, Chris Baker, Eric Baker, and David Baker; and three great grandchildren, Olivia Baker, Aiden Baker, and Dilan Baker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James VanWinkle; and a sister, Lulabelle VanWinkle.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 PM Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Dowell & Martin Funeral Home. Her Funeral will be at 1 PM Thursday, Aug. 29 at the funeral home, with Bro. Jerry Ballinger officiating. Interment will follow at the Johnetta Cemetery.
