MUSA 01 Gold Flyers traveled to Columbus, Ohio the weekend of April 20-21st to participate in the Club Ohio Nike Challenge cup. In Saturday’s two opening contests, the Flyers combined aggressive offense and organized defense to defeat the JR. Irish girls and the ZYSA Green Team by 3 – 0, setting up the semifinal match on Sunday morning against the Grove City Crush. After squandering a number of golden opportunities in that match, and having given up a well struck goal from distance, with less than a minute left the Flyers swarmed the offensive zone and finally scored the matching tally, putting them into the afternoon championship game.
In the final match, the Flyers played an outstanding field game but the girls from Madison County found themselves down 3 to 0 mid-way through the second half, when the Flyers converted two opportunities in a five minute span. The final 10 minutes, CE Extreme put up a forceful defense, the Flyers playing with frantic energy, and parents cheering their hearts out, both teams gave championship effort, with the Flyers falling just short in the end 2-3.
Since the fall of 2009 the MUSA 01 Gold Flyers have played in 14 tournaments all of which the team has either won or came in second place. In several of the tournaments the team has come up undefeated.
