Joie Margeline “Margie” Smith Edmonson

Joie Margeline “Margie” Smith Edmonson, 77, of Lexington, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. She was born in Whitley County on November 8, 1933 to James and Susie McKean Smith. She had worked for the U K Chandler Medical Center.

Survivors include: two sons: William E. Edmonson and Newton L. Edmonson, Jr. of Lexington; two brothers: Herbert Smith (Ida) and Herman Smith (Shelia,) two sisters: Etta Mae Cain and Mary Gentry (Doyle); two grandchildren: Michael and Christiana Davis and one great-grandchild: Alara Davis. In addition to her parents, she in preceded in death by her husband: Newton L. Edmonson, Sr. and two brothers: Millard Smith and Henry Lee Smith.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Brian Smith, Gary Mills, Bob Newton, Matthew Fain and Michael Smith.

Ruby Poole

RICHMOND — Ruby Combs Poole, 90, formerly of Richmond, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, in Parma, Ohio.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1920, in Travelers Rest, Ky., the daughter of Joe and Sarah Bowles Wilson. Ruby worked for many years at the One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaners and was a former member of the Waco Baptist Church and Waco Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She presently was a member of Parma Heights Baptist Church in Parma, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis Combs, and her second husband, Dave Poole; two children, Jerry Combs and Gary Wayne Combs; one sister, Dorothy Cecil.

Survivors include one son, William “Bill” Combs (Cindy), of Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Joyce Combs Loving (George), of Camden, Ohio; two sisters, Bess Kramer, of Hamilton, OH and Flossie Minter, of Richmond; two step-children, Raymond Combs, of Cable, Ohio; and Laura Kendrick, of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jerrie Ann Murphy, Kathy Mormon, John William Combs, and Martin Joe Combs; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua Combs, Cassandra Combs, Christopher Combs, Makayla Combs, Courtney Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Kristin Mormon, Tiffany Mormon & Jason Mormon; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. William “Bill” Combs and the Rev. Gary Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home.

Jose Morales

RICHMOND — Jose A. “Joe” Morales, 60, of Richmond, passed away Saturday afternoon at the V.A. Medical Center on Cooper Drive in Lexington.

He was born on August 30, 1950, in Robstown, Texas, to the late Jose and Isabel Avila Morales. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the U. S. Army after 20 years of service. Joe was a member of the VFW and the American Legion of Irvine, Ky. and of the Roman Catholic faith.

He is survived by: his companion, Christine Brock of Richmond; two sons, Jose O. Morales and Antonio Morales, both of Richmond; and a daughter, Amanda Morales of Tucson, Ariz. He also leaves four grandchildren, Zachary Hopkins, Selena Morales, Isabel Kennerly and Claudia Kennerly, as well as five sisters and four brothers.

Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Friends will be received after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be later in Texas.

Shirley M. Harrison Sholler

RICHMOND — Shirley M. Harrison Sholler, 75, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, in the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.

She was born on March 5, 1936, at Dayton, Kentucky to George W. Harrison and Irene I. Michaels Harrison Hildebrand. Shirley was a private duty certified nursing assistant and homemaker. She attended Big Hill Christian Church in Richmond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Smith, and one brother.
Shirley is survived by one son, Tom Smith of Covington; three daughters, Sherry Collins and husband, Daryl, of Richmond, Judy J. Poling and husband Russell of Columbus, Ind., and Jody Smith of Richmond. She also leaves nine grandchildren: Amber Hardy and husband, E. Joshua, Ryan Collins and wife, Audrey, Russell Poling Jr., Ashley Poling, Jennifer Jean Smith, Tommy J. Smith Jr., Amanda Beth Crawford, Michael Crawford Jr., and Hannah Susie Perkins; as well as, four great-grandchildren, Dylan Lee, Cameron Stewart, Bailey Hardy and Rhylee Torbert.

Shirley had requested no visitation and private memorial services will be conducted. Private burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate, Ky. Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer””s Association.

Anna Louise Trent Jennings

RICHMOND — Anna Louise Trent Jennings, 88, of Richmond, the widow of Hubert Jennings, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.

Anna was born on December 12, 1922, in Madison County to Ben Trent and Pallie Crawford Grubbs, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church on Francis Street, Richmond. She is survived by: her daughter, Barbara Strickland and husband Juan, of Richmond; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Phillips, Michelle Phillips Reid, and husband David, and Ashley Strickland; as well as three great-grandchildren, Amberlee Phillips, Treyvon Adams and Tyler Adams; and many nephews and nieces, including one special niece, Louise Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Wilson L. Wright

RICHMOND — Wilson L. Wright passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, in his residence. He was born in Sandy Hook, Ky. There are many family members and friends that still reside in Kentucky that love and will miss Wilson. Wilson served in the United States Navy and served during World War II. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, the Philippines and other countries and lived a large portion of his life in Las Vegas, Nev.

Wilson is survived by: his three sons, Richard Wayne Wright and wife Lori and their two children Deanna and Rachel who reside in Oregon and great-grandchildren, Noland and Logan; Ronald Bruce Wright and wife Debbie and their three children, Amber, Ryan and Richard reside in Pahrump, Nev., and great-grandchildren, Crystal and Madeline; and Jeffrey K. Wright is currently residing in Kentucky but has resided primarily in Hawaii for most of his life. Wilson also is survived by: his former wife and best friend, Charlotte Richards, who resides in Las Vegas, Nev. Wilson will be dearly remembered by his family and friends and a memorial will be announced at a later date.

RICHMOND — Evelyn Rose Miller, 80, the wife of Gilbert Miller, passed away Thursday in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Mrs. Miller was born July 23, 1931, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Sam and Irene Campbell Rose. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a member of the Madison Hills Christian Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Gilbert Miller; two daughters, Dee Dee Miller-Sale of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Paula Miller of Richmond; two sisters, Jane Land and Jenny Gentry, both of Richmond; four grandsons, Ben Masters, Ross Masters and Clay Masters of Richmond and Miller Sale of Lewisburg, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, with the Rev. Martin Frazer officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Gentry, Mike Land, Ben Masters, Clay Masters, Ross Masters and Miller Sale. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike McKnight, Tom Mattingly, Jimmy Lee Johnson, Mike Miller, James Masterson, Paul Motley, Raymond Anderson, Dr. James Salter, Jim Barnes, Donald Edwards, Dan Reynolds, Mike Frazier and John Harris.

RICHMOND — Robert Casteel, Jr., 75, widower of Linda Montgomery Casteel, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in the Compassionate Care Center. He was born in Jackson County, Ky., Sept. 12, 1935, the son of Robert and Lutina Vaughn Casteel. He was a retired custodial supervisor at Eastern Kentucky University and a member of the Ransom Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Roy Casteel, Ray Casteel and Clarence Casteel; one sister, Lucille Casteel Jordin. Survivors include: one brother, Paul Casteel of Dry Ridge; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Floyd Isaacs officiating. Burial will be in Madison Memorial Gardens.
