Its time for talented, patriotic singers and musicians to step up to the plate. The Lexington Legends, in partnership with ESPN Sports Radio 1300 and ABC 36, will hold their annual national anthem tryouts at Fayette Mall February 12 and 13 in the wing of the mall near Dicks Sporting Goods. Each participant will sing or play the anthem, and those selected by the judges will perform the anthem before a Legends home game during the 2011 season.
The tryouts will run from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 12 and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 13.
Chris Cross and Mike Cameron, hosts of “Sports Huddle” weekdays from 4-7 p.m. on ESPN Sports Radio 1300, will serve as masters of ceremonies for the tryouts. The panel of judges will include program director Skip Eliot of 96.9 KISS FM, ABC 36 news anchor Kristi Runyon, LM Communications Group General Manager Jim MacFarlane, Legends President and CEO Alan Stein, and Legends General Manager Andy Shea.
“This is one of the big events of our off-season, and reminds us that the baseball season is fast approaching,” said Shea. “Our national anthem tryouts always draw a large number of talented individuals and groups. We appreciate their interest, and we are looking forward to the tryouts. It will be an exciting two days.”
