The stretch of Scaffold Cane Road between Boone Tavern and Logston Lane is regarded as one of the most dangerous areas for pedestrians and bicyclists in the city. On Monday, officials announced plans will soon be underway to make it safer. The city will receive federal funds to install a shared use trail/sidewalk along the western side of that highway.
Berea Mayor Steven Connelly said it’s a welcome development because there’s long been concern about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists along that section of roadway. “This is wonderful news,” Connelly said. “There’s a lot of pedestrian traffic down there, but it’s dangerous. This will provide better safety and access.”
Berea City Administrator Randy Stone said preliminary work on the project could begin as early as January.
