Pay early and get the City of Berea property tax discount

Berea city residents can get a two percent discount on their city property taxes if they pay by November 30. After that deadline, property owners pay face value, while those paying after December 31 will accrue a penalty of 10 percent, plus 10 percent interest per Annum if the bill is paid after the 31st.

The City of Berea sent out tax bills last month, and with the opening of the Berea Municipal Police and Fire Safety Building, customers now have more convenient options for settling their account. The drive-thru service window at 212 Chestnut Street is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while the 24-hour drop box is located beneath the service window in the drive-thru. If you are paying taxes for several properties, or if you don’t have your tax bill card with you, it is requested that you come into the Finance Department in the municipal building to avoid blocking traffic in the drive-thru. City offices are closed on November 12, 22, 23, December 24, 25, 31 and January 1.

Those wishing to mail their tax payment can send it to the City of Berea Finance Department at 212 Chestnut Street, Berea, KY 40403. When mailing a tax payment or leaving it in the drop box after hours, be sure to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want a receipt. If a payment is postmarked by the appropriate deadline, residents will receive the applicable rate.

The property tax rate remains the same as last year – $0.102 per $100 of total assessed value. Residents who have questions about their property assessments can contact Property Valuation Administrator Billy Ackerman at (859) 623-5410 or by email at [email protected]

Those wishing to see if their mortgage company has paid their property tax, or to view outstanding Berea property taxes can go to the Finance Department page at bereaky.gov.
