Shirley Belle Deaton
Shirley Belle Johnson Deaton, 83, of Berea died Friday, July 13, 2018 at Baptist Health Lexington. She was a life-long resident of Madison County born September 27, 1934, daughter of the late Ray and Tommye Hudson Johnson.
She was a retired postmaster of the Big Hill Post Office and member of Pilot Knob Baptist Church. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress, outstanding gardener, flower gardener, and very dedicated to her church where she served as Sunday School teacher and member of WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union).
Survivors include 3 children, Steve Deaton (Kaye), Renee Deaton, Regayle Deaton; grandson, Robert Deaton; sisters, Jean Gilliam (Delbert), Marilyn Brackett; sister-in-law, Emma Johnson; as well as a host of relatives, friends, and church family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Deaton; son, Gary Deaton; and brother, Russell Johnson.
Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Monday, July 16, 2018 at Pilot Knob Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Calico officiating. Burial will follow in the Deaton Cemetery. Visitation 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Sunday at the church. Ladies Adult Sunday School Class will be Honorary Pallbearers. Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Laura Evelyn Lunsford
Laura Evelyn Himes Lunsford, 75, of Berea died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at her residence after a long illness. Born June 21, 1943 in Berea, daughter of the late Luther and Mary Montgomery Himes.
Laura was a homemaker that loved her devotion to her family as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Doug Himes (Pearl), Kim Anglin (Arthur), Kathy Bryant (Joe) and Tina Hammonds (Tim); two brothers, Roy Himes (Kay), Lewis Himes (JoAnn); mother-in-law Kathleen Lunsford; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, Jessica, Justin, Jessie, Zachary, Cody and thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her dear husband, the late Jerry Lunsford; eight siblings, Sissy Ann Hounshell, Mildred Banks, John, Harold, Ronald, Robert, Russell and Stanley Himes.
Funeral service is Wednesday July 11, 2018 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Pastor Roy Himes, Brother Harold Hays officiating. Visitation is also at the Church from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.
Pallbearers are Zach, Justin, Matt, Brandon, Jim and Rusty. Burial in the Bryant Cemetery in McKee.
Wayne “Rooster” Combs, 55, of Berea, died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his residence after an illness. He was a Berea native born August 26, 1962, son of the late Dilce and Euna Lamb Combs. A self-employed handyman, of the holiness faith, an Honorable Kentucky Colonel, a sports fan of the New York Yankees and the North Carolina Tarheels.
Survivors include 4 siblings: William Embree, Arthur Dale Embree, Oscar Combs and Betty Rothermel; special nephew caregiver Phillip Combs; special friends Tee Tee Potter, Debbie Potter and Edna Hensley; sister-in-law Eula Combs, as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings; Bobby Combs, Donald Ray Combs, Mary Jane Combs, Dilce Combs, Jr., and Paul Combs.
Funeral Services 2:00 PM Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Reppert Funeral Home with Brother Darrin Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Combs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mike Potter, Jimmy Hensley, Josh Rothermel, Michael Rothermel, Larry Combs, Johnny Combs, Rex Oliver and DeDe Robinson. Brenda Rhae Mahoney
Brenda Rhae Mahoney age 77 of Berea, passed away at her home on Friday, July 13, 2018. Brenda was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana to the late Claude and Virginia Combs Jolly.
She was a graduate of Jeffersonville High School where she was a member of the Ty-Teens and still continues to meet with them regularly. She was a Registered Nurse of 53 years and retired from St. Joseph Berea Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Terrance “Terry” Mahoney and one son, Chris Mahoney.
She is survived by three children, Sean Mahoney and his wife Gretchen, Beth Mahoney and Sharon Mahoney Gentry; one sister, Patti Jolly Caldwell; ten grandchildren, Alissa Lucas, Devyn Lott Mesplay, April Liddick, Greyson Lott, Kaitlyn Burkhardt, Casey Burkhardt, Christian Mahoney, Ian Mahoney, Karma Mahoney, and Dustin Burkhardt; and four great grandchildren, Dawson Lucas, Ace Sarginson, Arlo Mesplay, and Addie Burkhardt. She is expecting her fifth great grandchild, Finn Sarginson in September.
Funeral services will be 1pm Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Coots Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, Indiana with the burial to follow in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday at Coots Funeral Home from 11 am to 1 pm. Local visitation will be at Lakes Funeral Home Berea, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.
Harold Buddy Rogers
Harold Buddy Rogers, 75, passed away July 12, 2018, at the Hospice Center, UK Hospital, Lexington, Ky.
He was a graduate of McKee High School, retired from IBM, Lexington, Ky., and served in the Air Force in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Clover Bottom Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and America D. Rogers, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by: three sisters, Hazel Curry, Lyle Parrott and Faye Vendable; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea, Ky., July 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. visitation will begin at 10 AM until time of service. Burial will follow in the Rogers Cemetery at Morrill, Ky. Service will be held by Bro. Brandon Carter of Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Rogers, Steve Curry, Bo Jones, Greg Knighton, Patrick Grimes, Danny Rogers, and Steve Bates. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Dean, Roy Grimes, Kenneth Turner, Silas Dean, Lewis Jr. Sparks, Steve Witt, Darrell Ball, and Dana Knighton.
Mattie Katherine Mosier
Mattie Katherine Mosier, age 84 of Lexington, passed away Tuesday at UKMC. Mattie was born in Cartersville to the late Jennings and Katie Clark Mosier.
She retired from IBM.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gilbert Mosier, Herman Mosier, John Mosier, Kenneth Mosier, Phillip Mosier, Ruth Dobrovich, and Nina Tyler.
She is survived by one sister June Curtis and her husband Billy. A special nephew Charles Bolling and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3pm Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Harvey Spry officiating. Burial will follow in Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3pm on Sunday.
Barry Gill age 50, passed away on Sunday July 8, 2018 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Barry was a Toyota Manufacturing employee, he was a member of the Check Mate Boatowners Association, Lake Cumberland Boaters, and Fastboats.com. Barry enjoyed boating and all kinds of Motorsports.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents True Harold Gill Jr., and Gladys Anderkin Gill
Barry is survived by his wife Lori Mink Gill, his daughter Mallory Gill, his sisters: Debbie (Jerry) Lowry, and Alesia Gill, his aunts and uncle: Frankie (Arlene) Anderkin, Frances Cuzick, Peggy Mason, Loretta Smith, Patty Roy, Wanda Prater, and Dorothy Olsovsky, a niece Jennifer Leet, his mother and father-in-law Ralph and Elizabeth Tipton, and many, many close friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday July 14, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea from 1 – 4 pm, a celebration of Barry’s life will begin at 4:00 pm at the Funeral Home.

Tara Cole Tate, 35, wife of Richard Tate, passed away on Friday evening, July 13, 2018.

Mrs. Inez Benton Sebastian, 86, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the University of Kentucky AB Chandler Hospital. She was born in Madison County on January 9, 1932 to the late Thomas Henry and Della Rae Tuggle Benton.
She was a charter member of the Anchor Baptist Church in Richmond, KY. She attended every Sunday and loved all of her friends there.
She is survived by: her daughter, Deborah Lynn Gross (Jack); her sons, Steve (Diane) and David Sebastian; one grandson, Jack Hunter Gross; three granddaughters, Stephanie Adkins (Darrell), Morgan Lewis (John) and Sidney Sebastian; special niece, Jennifer Tucker (Eddie), special nephew, Tommy Smith; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Gene Sebastian (d. 1988), and her sisters, Nettie Casey and Helen Smith.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Richmond, with her Pastor, Bro. Paul Sowder officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM Saturday, at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be her best friend Joyce Campbell and members of the Anchor Baptist Church.

Betty Jo May
Ms. Betty Jo Bailey May, 80, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Berea Health Care. Mrs. May, the daughter of the late Leonard Bailey and Virginia Eversole Bailey, was born on January 6, 1938.
She was a homemaker and had attended King’s Tabernacle.
Survivors include: her son: Bobby May, Jr. and wife Carol of Richmond; two grandchildren: Timothy May and wife Shae and Rebecca Winkler and husband Randall, Jr.; five great grandchildren: Kaylee Winkler, Bryce Winkler, Brent May, Drew Harrison and Chase Sowder; her great great-grandson: Kaysen Harrison and one sister-in-law: Wilma Bailey.
Ms. May was also preceded in death by three brothers: Leonard Bailey, Jr., Stanley Bailey and Jerry Bailey and one grandson: Robert May.
The family has chosen private services with burial in the Richmond Cemetery. Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph W. Hembree Sr.
Joseph W. Hembree Sr. age 84, of Germantown, OH, passed away, July 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Red Lick, KY, on June 26, 1934 to the late Olivia Mae (Taylor) and Edward Hembree.
He retired from Franklin Box Board after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening; but most of all Joe loved his family and his best buddy “Tanner”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Joseph W. Hembree, Jr. and Carl Edward Hembree; and a grandson, Jacob Daniel Hembree.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Leona L. (Blankenship) Hembree; his children, Annie (Jeff) Donson, Donna (Pastor Chris) Tannreuther; Frank (Kay) Hembree of Berea and Ron (Peggy) Hembree; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his sister Malinda Jane (Doug) Alexander of Berea; his brother, Edward (Patsy) Hembree of Berea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday July 12, 2018 at the Dalton Funeral Home, 6900 Weaver Rd., Germantown, OH, where the Funeral Service will follow 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Chris Tannreuther and Joe’s grandson Cotey Hembree officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Miamisburg, Ohio.
Lawrence Clayton Burdette
Mr. Lawrence Clayton Burdette, 50 of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in Crab Orchard, KY. He was born in Richmond, IN on November 7, 1967 the son of L.C., Jr. and JoAnne Cummins Burdette.
He had been a construction worker. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, construction, working on cars, and spending time with his family. He loved God and helping people.
He is survived by his mother, JoAnne C. Randolph of Mt. Vernon; his children, Leslie Howard and husband Jeremy and Lecia Alane Burdette both of Berea, and Lawrence Clayton Burdette, Jr. of Lexington; a sister, Melanie Greganti and husband John of Bartlett, TN; two grandchildren, Alyssa LeAnne Howard and Jaylee Belle Howard; and his best friend, Jeffrey Casey of Harrodsburg. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, L.C. Burdette, Jr.; paternal grandparents, L.C. and Edna Burdette; maternal grandmother, Mary E. Cummins; an uncle, Terry Burdette; an aunt, Barbara Adams; cousins, Maryanne A. Reynolds and Michelle R. Adams; and a niece, Ashley N. Slone.
Visitation will be July 14, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be July 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery.
Anna Lois Whitt
Mrs. Anna Lois Whitt, 77 of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Livingston, died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Madison Health & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. She was born in Livingston, KY on May 11, 1941 the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Gracie Mounce Hellard.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a devoted mother to her only daughter, Shelia. She loved working in her flowers, walking, and spending time with her friends. She was united in marriage to Dewey Whitt and had one daughter, Shelia Marie Whitt. They both preceded her in death.
She is survived by two special nieces, Jo Ann Fortney and Joyce Ann Acres; and many friends.
In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was preceded in death by four brothers, George Hellard, William Bradley Hellard, Leon Hellard, and James Hellard; and three sisters, Rosa Mae Mink, Verdie Whitt, and Bessie Hellard.
Visitation is July 11, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Ward Cemetery.
Gary W. Parsons
Gary W. Parsons, age 66, of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, July 8th, 2018 at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on December 9, 1951 in Berea, KY to the late Wendell Evert “Jack” and Juanita Adams Parsons.
He was a lab tech for Lubrizol – performance plastics in Louisville. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed agriculture.
Those left to celebrate his life are his children: Lola Lee and Tom Stein of Louisville, KY; Adam Wendell Parsons of Jeffersontown, KY; April Lynn Parsons of Louisville, KY; Amy Marie and Dian X. Zheng of Queens, New York, and Benjamin Tyler Parsons of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren: Molly, Livia, Emily, Ali, Amanda, River, Bryan, Andrew and Natalie: 6 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a grandchild, Elizabeth Parsons; and his brother, Dwight D. Parsons.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 3PM until time of service at 5PM. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 12th, 2018 at 5PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals Chapel.
Elmo Quinn Newton
Elmo Quinn Newton, age 88, of Newton Circle in Irvine passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center following a short illness. He was born March 10, 1930 in Estill County and was the son of the late Wilgus and Addie Witt Newton.
He was a farmer and a retired engineer with the Contel Telephone Company. He was a member and elder of the Station Camp Christian Church and had lived in Estill County all his life.
He is survived by His wife of 68 years Jewell Frances Doty Newton, 3 Daughters Teresa (William) Morgan of Irvine, Rebecca Sheeks of Indiana, Charlotte (David) Riggins of Tennessee, 2 Sons Anthony Quinn (Jean Ellen) Newton, David (Marcia) Newton, 1 Sister Barbara Welch all of Irvine, 12 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Onnalee Boardman and 2 brothers; Alvin Douglas Newton and Nelson Newton.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 13, 11 AM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scot Beauchamp and Bro. Tom Burbrink. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home.

Gladys Marie Powell Robinson was born January 3, 1919 in Jackson County and departed this life Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea, being 99 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Elmer & Dorcas (Wilds) Click.
Gladys is survived by nine children, Estill Powell of Kirby Knob, Paul Powell (Lorraine) Sand Gap, Beatrice Abner (Cledious) of Berea, Betty Berry (Kenny) of Berea, Reva Hisel of Hisel, Opal Adams (Danny) of McKee, Sue Van Winkle (Alvin) of Paint Lick, Lois Chapman of Richmond and Wanda Shepherd (Ronnie) of Gray Hawk and daughter in law, Shirley Powell of Kirby Knob. She is also survived by her step children, Otis Robinson, Ernest Robinson (Jean), Robert Robinson and Ronald Robinson. Gladys was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was also preceded in death by her first husband (the father of her children) Laffie Powell; her second husband (father of her step children) Lester Robinson; grandson, Justin Andrew Gabbard; son in law, Mason Hisel; granddaughter in law Debbie Powell; and by her siblings, Burnace Abrams, Marcella Cline, Frances Stewart, Boyd Click, Cloyd Click and Edwin Click.
Gladys gave her life to Christ at an early age in life, she loved attending Broadway Holiness Church while able.

Delbert L. Skinner
Delbert L. Skinner better known as Doodle Bug was born May 4, 1963 in Madison County and departed this life Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 55 years of age. He was the son of the late Delbert Cain and Lola Collins Hammonds.
Doodle Bug is survived by four children, Mitchell Clark & Ashley of McKee, Heather Clark & James Turbyfill of Tyner, Melinda Clark of McKee and Laura Clark of Tyner. He was blessed with Landyn Turbyfill, Mikayla Hammonds, Trenton Hammonds, Raylin Clark and Avie Clark. He is also survived by a host of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
