The local WoodmenLife Chapter 888 presented the 25 foot flagpole and flag to the non-profit St. Andrew’s Retirement Community and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 2014 assisted with raising and lowering a flag flown over the White House to begin the ceremony and a trumpet solo. Dr. Leah Simpkins, President and Publicity Officer for the WoodmenLife Chapter 888, provided insight into the flag’s significance and meaning and also provided a brief understanding of the non-profit WoodmenLife Fraternal Insurance Society. Gil Shew, Administrator of both Telford Terrace and McCready Manor on St. Andrew’s Retirement Community’s campus accepted the flag and flagpole, along with providing explanation to those present regarding the non-profit St. Andrew’s Retirement Community and the importance of those volunteering and providing services year-round to assist the residents of all of the buildings on the campus.

Several residents enjoyed the presentation and the flag will serve as a lasting reminder of the service and sacrifice of so many.
